This is such a dumb idea, it makes me think you hate the Flyers.

Everything needs fixing right now. Hart isn't a sure thing, even with a better team in front of him. Even in 2020 he ran hot and cold in the playoffs. They need more assets and have limited ways to obtain them. I could see keeping Hart If the Flyers were a team that had missed the playoffs after a couple of deep playoff runs and were reloading for another run. What is 29 year old Hart going to look like? Impossible to predict.

He won't be on the team when they matter again.

Who cares about the guys cap hit? They are rebuilding. Seeing rumors on Twitter that Flyers have a Hart trade ready to go. Not sure if I believe it, but that's going to ruffle some feathers around here.

We will see what the Flyers drafts are like, but this is a good trade. This is what rebuilding looks like.

This is the most promising development in a while.

The team was going nowhere at the time and bringing Couturier back for that long wasn't going to move the needle. Trading him at the deadline the year before that would have moved the needle (a lot). I said so at the time. The Flyers need to learn how to sell high. It's my biggest complaint the last 12 years. Simmonds, Giroux, Couturier each could have brought in a massive haul if traded at the right time. We waited too long in each case.

This is the opposite of what the Flyers should do. They have few assets already (down picks, prospects, and cap space), and we're going to put all our eggs in one basket to trade up 3 spots? We should be trading folks like Provorov for multple picks and prospects. You're afraid to go all in on Michkov because of the chance he might not come over, but you're quite willing to go all in moving a handful of the few assets we have for one prospect. That seems incredibly inconsistent and at cross purposes.

I will believe this when it happens. People wanted the same with JVR and Andrew MacDonald and every year of their contracts they suited up for the Flyers. just because you want them off the team doesn’t mean someone wants to accommodate you.

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

Whether Hayes can be traded, even retaining 50% salary, remains to be seen. But I’m definitely not including a pick, even a 7th, to do so.

Trading Hayes and Ristolainen will cost assets and make them better in the short term and worse in the long term, just like nearly every move they’ve made in the last 15-20 years. If you want more of the same, do this.

Outside of a few HOFers (and Hart is not a HOFer), goalies are more like relief pitchers. They often have a couple of dominating years, sometimes in a row, mixed with average (or worse) years, and it's very hard to predict from year to year what version you are going to get. Flyers shouldn't let their lack of even average goaltending for most of the last 20 years make them so enamored of Hart that they don't consider moving him for a good return if there is one to be had.

Just say no. I guarantee if we sign one of these guys within two years we'll have posts asking to trade assets to get rid of them.

I don't expect him to do anything yet. As you point out, the season isn't over. But I'm not taking a few isolated comments, that we've heard from other Flyers' GM's that turned out to be not true, and presume there is a sea change happening.

I dispute the premise of these questions. Beyond a few bland PR statements, what makes you think the Flyers have decided to "openly embrace a rebuild mentality"? Briere hasn't made a single move yet. It is all talk (that he hedged on). I will believe they have started to rebuild when they start making moves that benefit the team in the long run (4-5 years) instead of the short run (1-2 years). That doesn't mean tanking necessarily, but it means making moves that overall add to their long term assets. Until then, it is all talk.

Don't worry. It's not like Briere bragged about learning everything (not much) he learned about being a GM from Homer and Fletcher.

Same guy preaching patience supported Fletcher lurching after every UFA available.

fc's approach to Atkinson is a good one. Right now they aren't going anywhere, so Atkinson isn't hurting anything and he would probably cost you something to move. So it is worth a roll of the dice to see if he can come back healthy and play well. If he does, he absolutely has value at the deadline this year or next.

Restock the system by trading Konecny. Trade Atkinson if you don't have to give up anything to do it (not likely).

I'm saying I could probably go back to 2019 and find a bunch of posts of you excited about Hextall's picks. For Fletcher's picks, it's too early to tell is all. You're comparing a fully baked cake (a la John Stevens) to some unmixed ingredients.

If you looked at Hextall’s drafts + 2-3 years they looked incredible. None of Fletcher’s picks have accomplished a thing yet.

Talk is cheap. They’ve hedged that rebuild talk with a lot of “not a fire sale” talk. The Flyers historically talk too much then can’t back it up. I’d like to see them shut up about the rebuild and make rebuilding moves.
