How do you know this he was making 275K to jump to 3 million?

Where do you get that info from?

    🤔

I posted the podcast in this thread.

Charlie O'Connor has reported this repeatedly.

Pardon me for not watching the video I just prefer hearing it from someone here. So how is it “the cost to get….?” You mean the Flyers promised him a Big Payday if he could get to Philly before the season ended? Is that the idea?

I read somebody online today saying the AAV was the “cost of doing business“ but gave no details. Maybe I should understand but I don’t…little help?

Fedotov was going to make the equivalent of 3 million a year playing in Russia.

He wasn't going to leave for less than that.

    It's pretty simple actually.

    He wasn't promised anything.

He wasn't coming over for less than 3m a year.

If a person looks for the worst in everything,  they'll find it.

I follow this team for fun.

I'd like to see them win and be relevant again also,  but I'm also going to enjoy the small "victories" along the way.

I'm not delusional, but life is hard enough and if I hate a team I follow for fun?...that's some sick-o ****. and I'm not down for that.

I've never said they should play hardball, ever. Pay them what they're worth. pay them what they earn

That wasn't directed solely at you.

It was more for the group at large.

It's so easy to dehumanize these players i do it too.

The young man has been through a lot. He is not young, now is the time for him to make the jump and make some hay. The scouts, Jonesy and Danny are giving him his chance.

I like that the team stood by him.

The momentum he had after the strong Olympics and his lights out playoff performance is lost.

I'm sure that's what the scouts liked and partially why he's getting this chance.

They need to buy out Johansen and Atkinson.

Their contracts are done at the end of next season, yes?

I think they buy out Atkinson but just let Johnasen whither away not playing for Lehigh Valley or on LTIR.

I don't think Johansen can be bought out while he is "injured". Maybe he's the guy they play hardball with and force him to get a physical for that purpose.

And from reports I seen this morning this contract was pretty much agreed upon to get him to leave Russia his play in the games he got in be damned.

And if this is true this is just a bad desperate way to run a business.

But I am sure he was encouraged by the ones above him if they didn't even maybe suggest it.

    #mind blowing

    :BrownBag:

I think there is more at stake than just Fedotov.  I think Michkov is watching how the Flyers act, if they screw Fedotov over by low balling him, why would he want to come to the team?

If they treat him fairly or in this case well... that serves to make the jump the NHL that much more enticing.

I don't think this signing was made in a vacuum.

I think the Flyers will need to continue recruiting the kid. I would not be surprised if this contract is part of that.

t really does look like they were competing with themselves in an effort to overpay.

Here's where I got my information.

Nothing says, they made an effort to overpay. That's just silly.

everything else you wrote i can't really disagree with. I don't like it though.

The terms of the deal being terrible or decent really depend on the player.

We won't know until we know, the team is terrible now and it may be the best time to make this kind of evaluation.

People who don’t like paying attention to the cap and contracts are rooting for the perfect team, because the Flyers don’t pay attention to them either.

It's not as fun as rooting for a hockey player.

Go salary cap!  doesn't have a ring to it.

  9. 1 hour ago, flyercanuck said:

the Flyers (ok, a franchise that doesn't constantly spend money on what they hope they'll become) could have done all this for half the money.

they could have gotten a different "other goalie" for the next few seasons, no question.

And maybe that would be a better way to go. I don't know.

But, If they wanted to see what Fedotov could do, that was the price, it's what he was making in Russia, or the equivalent and he wasn't going to uproot his life for a pay cut. They wanted to see what they had so, here we are.

The idea that every negotiation needs to be a win and hardball all the time is fine until humans become involved.

  10. I heard some interesting information coupled with some speculation about this today.

First and foremost, **** the salary cap, I have always hated it. It makes everyday joes (like us) side with billionaires who didn't get to be billionaires by being chill. It turns chill dudes into jr assistant accountants; for instance everyone in this thread is up in arms about this deal. In reality who gives a **** what Comcast spent, but the salary cap makes all us like ****** rats in a cage. Plus, I hate every ****** second i spend on cap friendly.

Second, the speculation is that was the cost to get the player to leave Russia.

On a human level I kind of dig it.

The guy was essentially kidnapped after signing his entry level deal sent to Russian basic training and spent a year in the Russian Navy.

The Flyers hung in there with him and he's getting his chance. It sends a message to the potential star player that the organization keeps its word.

The scuttlebutt I heard was the Managment wanted to see what they had and when the team is rebuilding isn't the worst time to make that evaluation. Also, the signing heralds the end of the Carter Hart era-that dude is done in the Orange and Black...maybe just orange HI-YO.

Could they use the cap space to get another 3rd or 4th by 3rd manning a deal...I mean sure, but I don't mind them seeing what their draft pick can do.

It could be he's the Flyers version of Ilya Sorokin or he winds up like Georgiev in Colorado.  I think even if he is just an average NHL goaltender by the time his contract is up .901/2.99-ish that's enough.

His KHL numbers kind of look like he may trend more toward a Georgiev type. In all honesty he just needs to be decent enough to give Ersson some breaks.

Look at our first pair and compare it to Trouba and Fox.

Trouba is playing 3rd pair minutes right now.

I think Makar/Towes is the most dynamic top pair in the league.

You're right, York and Sanhiem aren't near those guys. But then who is?

Fox and Trouba aren't my top anything unless we're talking cheap shots (Fox) and Elbows (Trouba) Actually I like Trouba-but Fox can **** off forever.

Did you see your boy Noah Dobson got abused last night for the game winner? Good times, Martinook made that whole team look stupid but Dobson really got tooled and I'm here for it.

York isn't finished developing, he's 23, a baby. I'm expecting him to get better.

Dude played almost 30 minutes a night with a bad shoulder, and was the best player on the Flyers for most of that time.

I think there's more to that kid's game, I like the pick of him over that little Caufield **** every day.

  12. I absolutely loved how the NYI became unhinged and the parade to the penalty box started.

I'm glad Carolina tried to score on the power play after the empty netter because that was a completely bush-league move by Palmeri to be the second guy in on Guentzel after he took the whiny baby slash from Brock Nelson.

NYI is losing in the most embarrassing ways possible and that warms my cold dark heart.

Ha, ha.  Danny Briere is one dumb mfer.  Maybe he was scared some team in Outer Mongolia was going to outbid us for the future superstar.

Is Fedotov is going to be the new Morin? A huge player that Flyers fans will insist is going to be good despite all available evidence that they are a gangly mutant who can't play.

maybe it's 3d chess and you're getting your wish of bottoming out.

There's a silver lining in every cloud.

  14. I'll add in his presser Drysdale said he expects to be 100% next season.

How much of that is hockey-player bluster or does he really believe it?

Availability is perhaps the most important ability. I understand that.

I don't view Drysdale as a lost cause.  Could be along with his frontal lobe, his bones finish developing as he becomes a man in the near future and this time is looked back upon as literal growing pains.

I think this Flyers coaching staff has done a great job with the defensive players in the organization. See Seeler, Nick and Ristolainen, Rasmus both those guys have become real life boys with Brad Shaw's tutelage.

I'd like to see what that Drysdale kid with all that talent can do after some decent coaching.

it's always better to trade a player a year early rather than a year late...

    Andy Reid, is that you?

I don't all the way disagree with what you typed- just wanted to make that joke.

I think you're right about selling at the peak value; I think maybe those carrots are cooked.

But the window for Laughton being moved should still be open, he is an expiring contract and has a game that a contender may want at the deadline next season.

If the Fedotov signing is any indication, it could be the team is looking to scrape the bottom of the barrel for upcoming season. Unless  82 comes out and shoves Ersson back to 1B.

Maybe the return isn't as spectacular, but his cap hit, game, and FA status may make him a desirable trade target in 24/25.

  16.

That feels like tandem goalie money to me. I guess someone must really like him.

I'm pretty sure he's not as bad as he was in his lone start.

He had been in the US for less than 2 weeks.

I liked what I heard from him in his presser way back then, I don't think playing in the NHL is going to be too big for him.

The question is does he have NHL ability or is his relative success mostly a product of his size?

I'm interested to see if his game takes off with some coaching on the NA rink and some experience playing on one.

Is this a signal that the Flyers are bottoming out next season?

  17. @Howie58 @radoran

Bill Matz is pretty funny and I find him likeable, he'd be a delightful addition to our forum.

He's pretty typical Flyers fan with how hot and cold he runs on any topic on any day.

I do appreciate his passion for the team and when he puts on the "fan" hat he's at his best.

Charlie O is who brings credibility to that group. He's been my favorite team writer for a few years now. He's well prepared, he asks some good questions in pressers and I think has the trust of the current management group.

He relies on analytics to support his opinions and that's fine with me, it's not all he uses though.

I'm not sure what else needs done to signal rebuild, to be honest. The roster has turned over by nearly 80% since the bubble.

Bottoming out hasn't happened deliberately, but I'd say earning the 5th pick and then the 7th pick was the organic result of some terrible hockey.

The team needs more guys like Kyle Conner, Artemi Panerin and Josh Morrissey.

I'm not really in any rush to get rid of Scott Laughton, that said, if he's the price to adding a player that can take a forecheck going nowhere and pot a goal and turn the tide of a game, for cheap? I'm helping him pack.

I remember the Rossi outcry so I didn't mention him either.

Also, no thanks to Zegras for me as well.
