  1. I don't like the guy. Is there potential in him? Sure. Do I wish someone else were experimenting with him? Yes. As TFG says he has an upside. But can it be tapped without the issues? If nothing else we got the BS attitude off the second line (Neal) and put it on the fourth.
  2. BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAHAHAAAAHAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Agreed @B21... Not the $ so much as the term. Orpik and Engelland are ridiculous contracts.
  4. Congrats to all of you! New fans popping out all over! I already have four Pens fans here but at this rate I might have to make more...
  5. I like the signing. Now on to a winger for Malkin.
  6. @doom88 @canoli Sorry boys. In my sleep deprived state and all the reading about retirement, I was thinking we were reigniting the retirement / cap hit question. I just woke up and see the buyout point. My bad.
  7. @canoli If they buy him out he still counts against the cap for the duration of the contract because he was at the 35 year mark. Worse yet you can't LTIR him then and replace him.
  8. @radoran I just don't see it as being a big deal. Honestly, a good numbers guy and attention to detail minimizes the impact so much it's a non-factor in my eyes. Is extra work created? Sure. But that's why the GM's and their advisors make the big money. I full understand what you're saying. I just don't think it's that difficult to work around. Just a difference if opinion.
  9. Yay Glass is gone!! Hoooorayyyyyy!! Engelland gets overpaid. Orpik gets WAY overpaid... Good Lord!! Welcome to the land of misfit toys! Niskanen making 5.75 mill per year for SEVEN years? I'll laugh my butt off if he was a one season wonder. Going to the land if misfit toys as well. Erhoff should make up for his departure and for 1.75 less and 6 years shorter term.
  10. It really doesn't. Rad I think it's a stupid contract and laugh at Holmgren for it as much as anyone. I'm a Pens fan... I love that it bit the Flyers. But the truth of it is when the season starts, he doesn't hurt you. Not one bit as far as the cap is concerned. It's not like he counts day 1 and THEN you can shop for a replacement. You can already have that replacement all off season. The only real penalty the Flyers are seeing is they have to pay him. It has cost them millions to sign that contract.
  11. @radoran Last season we had this same discussion in a thread. I pasted the exact wording from the CBA there that made it clear Pronger doesn't hurt you at the end of training camp/start of season. Technically he's LTIR that last day if camp so no restriction going into the season. It's here if you'd like to try to find it. But you can also find it in the CBA like I did if you're willing to do the search. Which is why I said the only true penalty is his salary year in year out.
  12. Actually he goes LTIR before the season starts so no impact there. Just the off season applies.
  13. Yeah that didn't really come out till after I'd made that comment. Lol.
  14. Look at it this way... The ONLY damage it's doing is the Flyers have to either pay him his annual salary or take him as an annual cap hit. As long as they pay him he goes on LTIR and doesn't impact your salary cap one bit. Does it hurt Pronger to not be allowed to say he's retired for a few years? That $5 million is a pretty good band-aid.
  15. I don't think so. Shero was pretty good overall. And Depres is pretty well thought of by all but Bylsma.
  16. There will ALWAYS be stupid deals. (A few less with Holmgren out of the chair;). But I try to weigh trade proposals from a reasonable point if view.
  17. He still has a house there where his family still lives, and claims Tampa as his home. That's probably more the reason and he doesn't have that in Dallas.
  18. You better up the ante if you're thinking Yandle. VLC isn't fetching you him that's for sure!
  19. Too much talent in front of him, and splitting 7th man duties with Depres.
  20. Bortuzzo hasn't had any injury issues. Depres is ready for a 5-6 role. Maybe more if he can get some ice time.
  21. @Vanflyer Orpik needed to go. I am a fan if his, even wearing his number on my jersey, but his time at big $ and minutes has passed. I'm hoping Bortuzzo becomes the next guy in that role. And Depres is Niskanen's.
