  1. I love rumors I don't see a trade happening to get this guy Flyers need to stand pat and see what they have
  2. The Flyers are now 2-3. The first three games looked to me like alot of guys were rusty and their timing and conditioning was off. The last two games they looked sharp, energized and worked like a team. Bryz also looked (IMO) really good in these last two games. Now I don't know how the rest of the season will play out. I fear that the injuries will be a big detractor and cause the team to fall short. And I don't know how Bryz will look the rest of the way. But I think 5 games in to a strike shortened season is not nearly enough of a sampling to determine hsi future on. Flyers fans are so emotionally invested in this team that everygame holds some monumental impact. Management has a tool at their disposal in this buy out. I don't think they will overlook this. Hell for all we know, Bryz could win the Vezina and still get bought out for business reasons. So as interesting a discussion as this is, I would say let's just relax and see what happens next. They aren't going to change anything until the season is over, so get used to what is here now
  3. with the days of enforcers being only a shell of what it used to be, having one on your roster is nearly a waste. There are a few good ones and I am now, and always will be, a big fan. Unless the Flyers go get one of these guys, there is no point in wasting a roster spot that can be filled with a potential skill guy, one who may develop into a regular player. I just think it is a testament to how bad things are, when you are having a discussion about the upsides of Jody Shelley and Tom Sestito, and about the possibility of then playing with Zac Rinaldo
  4. thank you... i bow to your intellect and sensibilities
  5. If he continues to disappoint, I am fairly confident he will be bought out. I think we are whipping a dead horse. The Flyers will go with him this season and let the chips fall. What he has done up to this point, why it happened, or how much he gets paid is irrelevant. He either plays up to level he was paid for, or he will be shopping for a new home
  6. its an assault rifle... it has a mind of its own and can shoot all by itself
  7. The idea that this is not areal season is ridiculous. As another stated, every team is playing by the same rules and under the same conditions. Is it the same as a full season? No, of course not. So what? How many other seasons have we heard that the first half of the season was over and now the "real' season begins? In my opinion this season is going to be a tougher challenge than a conventional one. Teams didn't have time to prepare. Roster moves that may have happened, didn't. Players are human beings and this type of real life situation for them will have an effect. there is the impending pressure of buy outs after the season. the schedule will be more grueling. every game is on conference and therefore more crucial. all in all, I think its going to be fun and enjoyable. for all of you who want asterisks, and are so openly critical after two games, what will you be saying if the Flyers are able to win the Cup this year?
  8. Im not disagreeing. My use of the term was to point out that HE might think he is elite. If so, then he needs to prove it. He needs to take the lion's share of this season, my guess would be 42 out of 48, and carry this team like a goalie should. If he needs to be papmpered and cared after in a shortened season then that's just more proof that he was a bad signing
  9. first he has to go on to some type of success with another team, then Fedotenko...err, Nodl, can come back
  10. I thought the Flyers looked good today and especially int he second period. Near the end however, they looked gassed and ended up losing. I don't blame anyone and I am vertainly not looking for an empty cliff. They battled all the way, and even looked good swirling into the zone. The ref did blow the whistele early but I am sure he will say he lost sight of the puck. It happens. I think they need some more conditioning and they will be fine. I can't say Im happy to see John Scott in Buffalo
  11. I dont see how you can evaluate someone by this type of standard.... will you also scrutinize every goal wondering if Malkin, Ovechkin or Stamkos could have scored it?
  12. Yep.. I agree. Fans make to much of this stuff. Every team is dealing with the same issues. Some things are different, but in the end its 48 games for everyone. They need to get it in gear an play
  13. This season is not traditional. One of the big things surrounding Bryz when they brought him here was that he played nearly every game. More importantly, that's what he wanted. If he is an elite goaltender (and the jury is out on that), then 48 out of 48 should not be an issue for him. The fact that Leighton is his backup is proof enough to me that the Flyers are comitted to him being in there every game this season. These guys are millionaire athletes...the top in the sport ... if he can't pull this off, he should be sent packing
  14. Man I hope this worx.... I'm basically on record as saying I think its toon soon for him, and this moves scares the bejeezus outta me. If it weren't for the Richards dibacle I wouldn't feel this way. I hope G is everything we believe he is, and can continue to build on what he has started. I want nothing more than for him to be one of the top 3-5 best players in the game, and after watching him play last season he has become one of my favorites. But this is the Flyers. The days of Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent and Mark Howe are not happening very often. Instead of players going on to be hall of fame flyers and local legends, we get great players who exit under clouds of drama, most likely to be champions somewhere else.
  15. How do you know he wants it? Has he said so? You may very well be right that he has the make up to handle this position. I wouldn't be surprised. However, what if he doesn't. What if the Flyers make him captain and the same thing happens that did with Richards? That is the kind of thing that will cost someone their job, and the team will look like a bunch of dolts for not knowing better (kinda like they do with their Goalie decisions). Like I said earlier, err on the side of caution. Let him have another season or two to get really comfortable. There is no real upside to rushing it
  16. said one demented to the other ... lol
  17. Here's what everyone is afraid of ... In the 07-08 season, Mike richards led the team in scoring with 75 points. He was named an all star and was given a 12 contract. this was all on the promise of how good he just played, and how good he would be. The following season he was named captain for the same reason. Over the next few seasons he battled with the media and was not the saem player. June 2011, the so called heir apparent to Bobby Clarke was traded, 3 years after being made the captain. Many opinions, mine included, say the pressure of being captain for this particular team, in this particular city, led to his departure. I also believe that his maturity level was not ready for such a position, accentuated by his pouting over the trade of his buddies (Lupol). I realize Giroux is a different person, but I don't want to see the same mistake happen twice. Captains and goalies, the two things in Flyerland you don't ant to be.
  18. "(do routine high-sticking penalties count?), " <--- depends on the recipient As for Briere, overall stats be damned, what this guy has done in the playoffs for the Flyers made him worht every damn dime
  19. They thought the saem thing about Richards and rushed that along. It turned out to be a bad decision. Leave Giroux alone and let him develop. There is no need to rush this, especially when you have timmonen and Briere (both fromers captains) on the roster
  20. Oh yes... I meant Shelley but i was afraid to admit it
  21. "whereas Leighton has been ready to play" ... not throwing darts at you of course, but this is just funny as hell
  22. sure he did... but tell me you didn't love it when he wrecked someone?
