  1. Aww. I thought that was prerequisite. I know a poster that has sheep, if that helps any.

  3. If a team moves and no one knew they existed, did they move?
  4. I suspect these two things are connected. It's really the only explanation.
  5. I think even early in the season there were a lot of the typical "Hart was exceptional" comments. I think he kept us in a lot of relatively low scoring games and kept the "holy ****" reaction among the players lower, knowing that it wasn't likely the first of six. Hart played as if maybe he knew this season was his last NHL hockey. I'm afraid "back of the net" will soon have an entirely different meaning.
  6. Yeah, it wasn't a bad pick. Seriously and with no sarcasm. It just was't the right pick. All along. 10 chances, I pick David Jiricek there with every single chance. Even there, there's no particular proof that Jiricek's the right pick either. But for where the Flyers were and the need for high level defencemen, I pick Jiricek. Time will tell, but he's Drysdale (who I really like) without the paper mache skeletal structure.
  7. I agree, but it's a better argument if you replace defensemen with defensemen. Or exchange Erik and Marc with Couturier and Atkinson.
  8. This is exactly why you have to have sex at the end of every date like you might accidentally fall groin-first into a thrashing machine the next day.
  9. Possible. I think the reality is that Cindarella's carriage was really a pumpkin all along.
  10. I think the power play exposes what is really wrong with this team, especially over time while changing out players and coaches: a good power play ultimately requires talent. The Flyers simply don't have high-end talent. Maybe Konecny, but soberly name a single Flyer that makes PP1 on any of these teams: Tampa Bay Lightning Carolina Hurricanes New York Rangers Dallas Stars Edmonton Oilers Colorado Avalanche Florida Panthers Toronto Maple Leafs Detroit Red Wings Vancouver Canucks Look, you can hard work your way against teams October to March. The power play really isn't a big secret in general. I mean, there's a couple vaguely different structures, but it's a half-court game and it comes down to who can play quickly and at a high level. This takes skill. Hard work is great but in a half-court game hard work by players with skill is what it takes. And 5 on 4, if you have to sacrifice either, you keep the talent. The penalty kill, conversely, takes hard work and some "game smarts." Torts had them working hard and playing smart for the most part. This is reflected by their success (until recently) on the penalty kill. But regardless of who the coach is, there really is a small bag of tricks in terms of how to play it or strategy. The PP coach simply can't manufacture skill level out of thin air. Apparently, not Rocky Thompson, anyway. I argue no one can.
  11. Maybe Salt Lake City would take him to build their new team around. He's great in the locker room and terrific against Malkin.
  12. I personally expected utter crap and said so. It's what we have. yeah, they collapsed at the end, but the truth is he got more out of them than what they were. But he also wore out a barely average group playing well-above their heads and working harder as a club than I've seen in Philly since Richards and Carter were at a downtown Philly bar. I wasn't in favor of Torts being hired. He's not really the current problem, but he's not the solution, either. The problem with him surviving the summer is exactly what I said earlier and wasn't kidding: they're only going to fire him in November or December and crap the rest of next season as a result. Start the real damn rebuild and bring in a rebuild coach.
  13. Well, if they stay to script, they keep Torts until November or early December next year so they have an excuse as to why next season is completely screwed up too, because "we have the talent that we should be winning so it's aluminum imports or interest rates or space lasers or something." It can't be that they have built a talentless team.
  14. Yep. Maybe the Flyers should move to Kansas. (By the way, I know you're well-aware, but in case it's escaped others: the conversation about the 4th isn't really with the 4th. It's some of us simply saying "we told you something that should have been patently obvious to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention" about the larger point we completely agree on). It really shouldn't take a walk to Damascus.
  15. Yes. But take Nyqvist, for example. He's playing on Nashville's top line (he doesn't belong there, IMO, but it doesn't help my argument). He's scored 500 points in this league and is a 13 year player. Pageau is a solid 3rd line center on a team quite likely heading to the playoffs. His on ice value is much more than his fantasy value (limited to, "it's Friday and I need faceoffs"). He's a 12 year player on 2 teams. All I'm saying is that they're solid long-term players that we traded away to rent a washed up crap defenseman for 6 weeks or whatever for a lost cause instead of keeping it either to draft or use in a functionally cognitive way (package with something for a better pick, package for a prospect, whatever). Trading it when they did and for what they did was stupid on its face and didn't ever turn out as well as the "stupid on its face." Again, you've advertised all year it's a rebuild. Fine, then rebuild. Don't toss assets away for a guy that should be off selling prefab windows somewhere (NTTAWWT, it's a valuable job...).
  16. Well, there have been very successful picks in the 4th round, but it's the Flyers we're talking about so fair. But that doesn't mean to throw it away for a defenseman even Buffalo doesn't want. Because, I mean, the last Buffalo castoff defenseman turned out sooooo well. Take as many swings as you can. And this: Completely on point. The 4th rounder is indicative of this idiocy, and that's why I harp on it.
  17. Or since they replaced him with a defenseman who cannot play defence...for a 4th round pick. I don't care that he's not here past this year. He should not have been here at all and the whole exercise was asinine.
  18. If anyone's looking for something to watch and hasn't already, I'm mid-season 2 of Yellowjackets. It's mostly dark but often funny and, for me, really very good. I now return you to your regularly scheduled spin cycle.
  19. What would you base that prediction on? I mean really, just because it's repeatedly happened and we're stll doing the same damn thing doesn't mean that Phil Connors won't do some random good deeds for us and things won't change.
  20. The good news is THIS time the same abject stupidity will work. Because history...or something.
