I am fine with Ovi and Backs and TJ (and recently Kuzy) laying playoff eggs year after year…’cuz they DID manage to win it all ONCE.   (Especially for Ovi, it would be so different and pathetic but for that one-time Miracle.)

P.S. Go Oilers: win Sunday then break this 6-series Canadian losing streak in the Cup Finals.

That’s like me saying I’m fine with the Blues winning it finally.  Sure that was a rare moment one of my teams won.  The Rams being my 2nd favorite also .  But my only favorite team to win it all are the Orioles.  Bills and Sabres have come close, but like Canucks, Vikings and others, still waiting.  The Bills could win now depending on these strange moves by GM and a cry baby receiver walking and no longer having to be pampered.
I don’t like any of the teams left in hockey or NBA.  So I’ll watch my Orioles

I just think Florida are a bit deeper, battle tested and have the better goalie hands down.

Florida Panthers attendance: 96.8% capacity, right between New Jersey and the Islanders.

Buffalo Sabres attendance: 83.8% capacity, 2nd last in the NHL.

Those stats must be only this year.  Florida has an empty arena when they are not in playoffs.  No way do they draw more than Buffalo and Devils don’t either

I'm really not like that. For starters, I don't drink any alcohol; it's just not my thing. At one time, I really lived and died by these games... I was crushed when the Oilers were swept by the Islanders in 1983. When they won the Cup the next year, I thought it would feel glorious, but it didn't. I was glad that they won, and that they had played to their potential.

Strangely, though, I didn't feel jubilant like I thought I might, and it just sort of came to me: I'm not an Edmonton Oiler. I'm not a loser when they lose and I'm not a winner when they win. I don't hate the opposition. It's the reason you'll never hear me say that "we played well" or "we had such a good game", and that didn't change through one Cup or the next four.

I'm generally happy/frustrated much more by off-ice moves than on-ice results, but I don't stress the games, and just try to enjoy them for what they are, because I hope the players can do their best.

Should the Sabres ever win in my lifetime the party will never end

It's certainly not a traditional hockey market, but they can offer some things that other places can't: great winter weather, anonymity, more take-home pay, and a team with a built-in salary cap advantage.

And they just don’t show up.  Sure maybe now that they are in conference finals and maybe the favorite to win it all?  It’s never going to be a hockey town like Canada, Buffalo or Minnesota.

They were close this year, and have a chance next year, but just making the playoffs is a long way from what Reinhart's been used to: Conference and Cup Finals.

I don’t think he can expect Florida to be a finalist every year or even a playoff team.  Lousy fan base so no pressure to spend and it’s not an attractive market.  No way.  They better enjoy this run, it may be the last.  And you must be a nervous wreck with this game 5 looking you down a barrel in Dallas.  I’m not sure Edmonton is strong enough in their goaltending?  If they lose. That will be what’s to blame

Jim Hiller named Kings coach with interim tag removed

    May 22, 2024, 02:36 PM ET

The Los Angeles Kings removed the interim tag and named Jim Hiller as the club's 30th head coach in franchise history on Wednesday.

Multiple media outlets reported Hiller agreed to a multi-year contract.

The Kings fired Todd McLellan on Feb. 2 and tabbed Hiller as the team's interim head coach. Under Hiller's watch, the Kings finished the regular season on a 21-12-1 run before falling in five games to the Edmonton Oilers in their Western Conference first-round playoff series.

Los Angeles was 23-15-10 under McLellan this season.

Hiller, 55, joined the Kings in July 2022 after stints as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings (2014-15), Toronto Maple Leafs (2015-19) and New York Islanders (2019-22).

As a player, Hiller recorded 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) and 116 penalty minutes in 63 career games with the Kings, Red Wings and New York Rangers. He was selected by the Kings in the 10th round of the 1989 NHL draft.

    Hail Hiller!

  8. I had Florida  vs Vancouver months ago.  The Canucks just missed.  So I guess I must pick Florida, but they must win in front of a hostile crown in game one or two.  Madison Square Garden will be the most hostile environment in either series. Big time.  Remember 1994?  These Rangers are not as good as those of course.  Bure and the Canucks gave them a scare.  This Florida team got to the finals last year and shocked everyone.  They wont shock anyone know but they are more of a battle tested team.  I will cheer for the East winner this year no matter who wins.  But I really do not care much.  Hey, TFG, if you see this, are you hoping the T Wolves win in NBA?  I am.

  9. Think the Sabres are being crazy bringing Lindy back?  Now the Leafs have made Berube their head coach!  Seems a bit of a strange fit to me.  There are at least 4 more jobs available I believe?  Yes I see Brewin Flames listed them.  The Blues extended the guy who took over and he did well.  I’m hoping Lindy gets some help from GM?  I guess other vacancies may not be filled until playoffs end?

In Minnesota, an NHL arena sells out to watch high school kids play hockey...

Indeed.  I did not think the Florida Panthers 🐆 would last this long.  There attendance has been terrible over the years.  Maybe it’s better now w that they have a contender?  Unsure.   But Minnesota and Buffalo blow away their fanbase as does any city in Canada .  I hope Canada 🇨🇦 gets to the final and wins , just not with the same team you want.  I’ve always liked the Canucks and they are my third favorite team.  It’s more likely that your boys advance.  I will hope Dallas loses to either.

Definitely not a McDavid, probably not a Hughes/Eichel type either. Celebrini will probably come close, maybe on par but I see him as a Toews lite. I do think the top 13 in this draft all are what you'd usually consider as "top ten" talents and I believe that's the real appeal of this draft class. So a bunch of 1st/2nd line talents at forward, one or two may be in the elite category (Demidov/Lindstrom) and same at defense...a bunch should be solid top 2nd pairing guys, a few top pairing guys (Levshunov, Parekh, Siliayev maybe).

I doubt Buffalo trades up. If they are active probably more likely they trade down or trade the pick completely. They need help now, not in 2-4 years.

I hope Flyers get buffalos 11 (Laughton plus Florida pick) and thereby get two of those "top ten" talents. Would be nice to trade even higher up, but I fear the cost is going to be too high.

The answer for Sabres or Flyers has to be via free agency

I can hardly claim to have never submitted a bad post, stating a dumb opinion or irrelevant issue.  Guilty!

But you’re questioning a simple factoid, the answer to which can easily be found by googling “nhl final standings”, or by navigating to the standings on nhl.com or the NHL app.  Why ask about that?

It’s like asking in a different forum, “I thought Anthony Blinken was Secretary of Defense?  You’re saying State?  I thought that was Buttigieg?”  (Just google this sh!te.)

How the Rangers won President trophy is a shock to me.  I look at the playoff races now and then on CBS and last time I checked I thought Dallas had it locked up

Ok.  CBS lists the seeds first in conference and made it look like Florida had top seed in East.  Somehow the Rangers sucked it out by 1 phucking point

  13. I still will never understand why the Minnesota North Stars ⭐️ lost their franchise and it didn’t take that long for Wild to come along.  To me Minnesota is far more of a “hockey town “ than Detroit .  I hate hearing that BS about Detroit being a hockey town, or best hockey town in US!  BS!!!  Buffalo is easily more of a hockey town as is Minnesota.  Detroit is more of a basketball town.  I hope Minnesota never loses this franchise.  Like my Sabres they need some new players to take them to next level.
