CreaseAndAssist
Wild Squander Lead in 7-3 Loss to the Blues What a sad way to end the season. Not a shot on goal until a little over 5 minutes left in the 3rd. Kahkonen shredded again by the Blues. No one got hurt, and it looks like we'll be playing Vegas in round 1 but IMO not a good look for Minnesota. @MNSOTA has a game recap, we also discuss the top 5 moments of the 2021 Regular season for the Wild, an Iowa Wild report, and prospect news too! Enjoy and discuss (thanks to anyone who's read any of our articles this year!)

lynxrattle
Just saw the highlights. That was worse than Kuemper's worst. My first reaction is the fear that do we have a good enough backup goalie next season, or do we have to trade for a stop-gap. I'm baffled. When the Blues scored 9 goal against him, 6 or 7 went in stickside. The goalie coach attached a cord to his stick to let him relearn the correct position. And now everything goes in. High or low, stick or glove side, no matter. It's not entirely on Kahk of course, but it certainly makes me miss some red hot competition for the backup goalie spot from the prospect pool.
Lonkkis
When was the last time we've done well against the Blues? 4-5 years ago? Like we're Vegas' weak point, the Blues are ours.

Enjoy and discuss (thanks to anyone who's read any of our articles this year!) First of all, thanks to you LIG and MNSOTA for all your articles published here at this forum. We always enjoy to read them because they give us a source to think more about our team improvements or weak spots in it. Agree about a sad way to end this regular season for the team. 7 straight goals into our net in that game are not acceptable at all. I just looked through the most embarrassing scores and plays of our team this season: 1). 1:5 (against Colorado); shots on goal 22 vs their 55; Talbot in the net; 2). 0:6 (against Colorado); SOG 31 vs their 42; Kahkonen in the net; 3). 1:9 (against Blues); SOG 25 vs their 38; Kahkonen in the net; 4). 0:4 (against Blues); SOG 31 vs their 27; Talbot in the net; 5). 3:7 (against Blues); SOG 20 vs their 27; 7 straight goals into our net after our lead 3:0; Kahkonen in the net. Only in 1 game out of these 5 games we were able to outshot the opposite teams which means we did not put enough efforts at least to improve the score as well as a game against them. Are we able to compete enough when we are playing against them (Avs and Blues)? Another observation - zero goalies were replaced during the game by coach during these embarrassing games. Maybe that replacement would give some hope to the team?

They are by no means an unsinkable team for anyone. 2019 Stanley Cup winner still means a lot about this team, IMO. Not sure how they will do without Tarasenko this playoffs season, but this team still has a power in depth. If Binnington will play solid, then they could give some troubles to the Avs team. Probably, their series will bring a lot of interest to this event and at least one cup contender will be eliminated in the 1st round. Our team does not like them both..

Evason is a moron. He's handled the goalie situation badly. First he cemented Kahkonen in the bench when he was red hot. Now after a good period Talbot is back to his old sieve self when he clearly should not have been taking this many starts. Sorry but the Wild will exit the 1st round with no explanations needed. When you're phucked up in the net, the whole team will be phucked up in the playoffs. 1

It would be interesting to see if Carolina and Colorado teams will be able to meet in finals.
Alexandron
Still, the hope dies the last one in our life. Hoping, that we will be able to compete nicely against VGK (at least in 7 games) and hope, with some luck we will be able to pass them into a 2nd round. Hope also, the wild grizzly bears (playoffs image of our team ) will not be transformed during the 1st round into a peaceful pandemic pandas . Good news for us, masks will be off soon in US as well as back into a normal life. But, if we will play poorly like we did last playoffs season, then I am expecting a lot of changes in the team by Bill Guerin during the offseason like he did last fall. No other options we will have. He really eager to improve our results in playoffs season.
lynxrattle
Does Evason have something against goalies, I think after reading Alexandron's and Hockey-78's posts. Has he ever pulled a goalie having a bad game? Why didn't he try a 1A/1B goalie tandem, when Kahk had played so well, the season was this condensed, games every other day, and Talbot having bad periods of playing during his past seasons? Is Evason a trauma victim - still holding a grudge against all those goalies that back in the 80's stopped him from scoring like Gretzky?
