Lay Off

How Bad is this going to hurt us? Well hope to much if so trade trade. HaHa!

You realize that since we all now want them to lose the rest of the way, that the lay off is going to be exactly what they need to get on some big winning streak, that only makes them miss the playoffs by 1 point!  Any other season where they are competing for the division or are already solidly in the playoffs, the layoff would completely throw everything off and they would limp into the playoffs!   :unsure[1]:

Another time, another season, the Penguins game might have served as a good launching point.  I do think that effect will be diminished by its being right against the all-star break.  That and the fact the team sucks.

last season's exit hurt us..

The Flyers took the eventual Eastern Conference Champs to a Game 7 2-1 loss, total goals 19-18.  You cannot get closer than that.  The Penguins are a pushover.  The Canadiens were worn out from a tough series with the Bruins, as the Rangers got passed them somewhat easily.  Then anything can happen in the Cup.

Last year the Flyers were closer than you think.  This year... not so much.

Was talking about how after the playoffs and unto the new season they sucked.. And they still suck. And will suck...

They have sucked, will still suck, will still have sucked.

We'll have to check with rad, but I think that covers the tenses.

In 2011 the Habs took the Cup-winning Bruins to seven games in the first round and lost by a goal. In 2012, the Habs missed the playoffs.

In 2013 the Wings took the Cup-winning Blackhawks to seven games in the second round and lost by a goal. In 2014, the Wings were waxed by the Bruins in the first round.

"thisclose" last year means you lost last year. It has nothing to do with "how close" the team is to actually competing.

As for "anything can happen" - since the lockout, the Kings are the only "surprise" team to win the Cup - and they followed that up with another one two years later.

The three "surprise" finalists were the Flyers, Rags and Devils. Two of those fell off a cliff after their appearance. The Rags are clinging to the 6 seed - an entire point ahead of the 7/8 (Boston/Washington). Given how the Metro is going (13 up on the Flyers for the final WC) and the East (8 points up on FLA for the final WC), they're not likely to miss the playoffs.

But they're a 14-1 shot in Vegas to win the Cup.

Could it happen? Sure. I'm not betting the house on it.
