McDavid has gone on record saying that playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, his favourite team since childhood, would be “a dream come true,” but explained Thursday that his loyalties will be easy to switch.

“With the Leafs and how they’ve been playing of late, it’s hard to be a Leafs fan right now,” McDavid said. “Your loyalty goes to the team you’re playing for.”

Leafs currently have a 6.5% chance of landing McDavid, unless the draft is "fixed".

The Leafs have a policy against having Ontario-born players on their roster. Only Americans, Swedes, and Russians are allowed to play for the Leafs.

MLSE rationale: A lot of good hockey players are born in Ontario, so to avoid being a winning hockey club, it is best to avoid selecting any of those players.

I bet the Leafs ball in the lottery machine is filled with lead to ensure it falls through first (assuming they draft from lowest pick to highest).  :)

Case in point, the big American slug Tyler Biggs scores at the AHL level about as often as Hailey's Comet comes around. Burke drafted him because he was a big huge lumbering American power forward. Problem is, there is a little thing called skating that is part of the process....lol.  Burke's ego is enormous.....bet you are glad to be rid of him!

When Burke was hired, he basically promised to turn the Leafs into the Broad Street Bullies. A big, strong, physical team that was difficult to play against. Then he did the opposite of that.

I'm so glad he's gone. His infamous Kessel trade (that will go down as the worst trade in league history) set the franchise back five years.

Rig it up, Bettman.

...because let's be honest, the Leafs aren't winning it on their own...you know, voodoo curse, and all.

You guys just won your lottery tonight when the Jackets took Clarkson off your hands......
