They have the money to make some offers this summer. They don't even need to chase the big dogs. They have a first line that is going to organically become elite. They need to trade Bozak and retain half his salary(A lot of teams might not mind C depth at 2.1 million) for a 2nd or 3rd. Let Matthews have more icetime and responsibility. Look for a top 6 winger and for sure some defense. If Shattenkirk is not under contract, they can throw UFA money at him. I know people Balk at paying UFA money sometimes, but Shattenkirk would be worth it. Reportedly he wants to come east too. Not a ton other than Depth Dmen available and a few specialists, but they could stand to replace some. TJ Oshie would be a prime winger candidate to go for as well. With Kuznetsov due a new contract, Oshie might become available. I think Shanny still has to tread lightly. Somebody like Shattenkirk is a special player, not opposed to that...but Oshie and his types, the Leafs are better off to build from within. The guys like Oshie that will demand long contracts....so long they can't possibly be worth it and the end of the deal, those are guys the Leafs should snub their nose at. Just cause you have the money, does not mean you have to spend it. The Leafs still have to reconstruct their defense, that will take 2-3 years.....thus their window opens then, and that is just when the young star forwards will become championship material....THEN is when they should strike in UFA....patience is required now more than ever. TropicalFruitGirl26
@WordsOfWisdom @BluPuk Well, boys, the Leafs ARE trying to remedy their goalie situation.... From the Hamilton Spectator http://www.thespec.com/sports-story/7006264-leafs-sign-ramo-to-pto-lamoriello-says-there-s-no-plan-yet-for-30-year-old-goaltender/ Sparks, Enroth, and now Karri Ramo signs a PTO contract...all with the Marlies. Frederik Andersen will SURELY be pushed now, eh? Oh, and from the files of "That's Funny", Lou Lamoriello says getting Ramo on a PTO has NOTHING to do with Enroth's recent demotion. Uh huh. And I am sure the Leafs are looking at Ramo because they think 29 other teams missed out on a real gem here and NOT because Leaf goaltending, in general, has been horrendous. No sir...nothing at all to do with it..... Personally, I think Mr. Lamoriello was a better fibber when he was in NJ and said, "We don't play boring trap hockey...nonsense..." When he's off it he belongs in the ECHL. From what I've seen, Gardiner is one of the most improved Leafs players from last season. Rielly skates around at mach 1 but is always out of position. Funny how that happens. There are players in the NHL that can move very quickly and yet accomplish nothing. Morgan Rielly is one of those players. Gardiner plays better defensively and he'd have more points than Rielly too if their ice time was equal. On 12/5/2016 at 11:20 AM, flyercanuck said: Now if the team can just get on the same page... That photo cracks me up. Not only do the players look like they're lined up to do the limbo, but the advertising saturation is comical to me. The NHL has managed to plaster ads on almost everything. Perhaps the Reebok ad could repeat all along the blueline? Perhaps the linesman could have advertisements on his legs? (Bonus points if it aligns with a larger ad along the boards to form one big ad when he sits on the boards. ie: Like a McDonalds ad and his legs could be the arches or something creative.) TropicalFruitGirl26
@WordsOfWisdom What!!?? You read through this thread, answered a few posts, even quoted me, but NO MENTION of Karri Ramo???? Why do I get the sneaking suspicion this doesn't really excite you.....??

The Leafs and Oilers are a lot alike. Both teams have sucked for an eternity, and even when they were making the playoffs regularly over a decade ago, they were routine 1st round eliminations most of the time. (Edmonton being the 8th place bit_h to the 1st place Dallas Stars and Toronto bending over for the New Jersey Devils.) The Oilers had that one final, and the Leafs had a couple final four appearances. That's all. If they both met in the final it would be the most unusual Stanley Cup final match up ever! Ramo? The Flames castoff goalie? I think they should just bring up the kids. Andersen is going to play every game from here on in. That's the strategy. Always takes a new goalie time to adjust and they all have some bad games in between good ones. Is anyone else not noticing his GAA and Sv% excluding those first 5 games is around 2 GAA and 93.5% even if you just look at his losses?

Indeed. Meanwhile Enroth lost every game he was in and had a save percentage of around .800. I'd give Andersen over 4000 minutes in net. He can play every game and whoever backs him up can play when he has the flu or something.
