I watched the video also. Kessel clearly makes the first move. I can not understand how the NHL fines the Buffalo coach for "player selection" when Scott was already on the ice and Toronto had the last change.

I thought Kessel only getting 3 games was bad enough. I watched the video, and obviously can't tell what was said, but Kessel did make the first move towards Scott. Then he chopped him twice. He gets a 3 preseason game suspension. Then the Buffalo coach gets fined for "player selection"? How about the fact that Scott was already on the ice taking a regular shift, and Toronto had the last change and decided to put Kessel out there? I hoped at least we would get to the regular season before the ridiculousness started.

I read that article the day it was posted, and wanted to post it on here in a thread. I was so awestruck by the amount of time he must have spent compiling the data that I could not think straight afterwards. Hence, no post.

a Flyer / Canuck trade worth looking at would have to include Edler.

Basically the article throws around way too many numbers for me to scrutinize this early in the morning, but it proposes we will have plenty of money for Read next year.

The easiest thing they could have done after figuring out which teams would jump to the eastern conference is go strictly by geography. NORTHEAST: CANADIENS, SENATORS, MAPLE LEAFS, SABRES, BRUINS, RED WINGS, RANGERS, DEVILS and the SOUTHEAST: ISLANDERS, PENGUINS, BLUE JACKETS, FLYERS, CAPITALS, HURRICANES, LIGHTNING, PANTHERS. Take all the teams, line them up by latitude, and cut it down the middle. The only downside I see is the loss of division rival Flyers/Rangers games. However, I don't think the "division" games will be as important as before because of only having 2 divisions. What is the breakdown for the games played against the different divisions/conference?

That should not have even been 2 minutes. He does nothing to earn a penalty. That announcer is horrible. Even watching replays he spouts garbage "That's close to the head..... (really? the shoulder is close to the head?) "The puck was nowhere near him.... (just actually on his stick when he gets hit) "There's the elbow.... (elbow flailing after contact and coming nowhere near the guy's head)

Fair enough. It was kind of a knee jerk reaction to seeing his buyout, and having wanted him for 3 years or so..... and the horrible memory of having every defenseman under the sun injured last year.

Colorado just bought him out. He was making 2.25 I believe. Always liked the guy, and wanted him on the Flyers. He just hits and blocks shots all day long. Could be a good, cheap way to shore up the defense providing there are no more crazy moves this offseason. It would make Mezaros for a bag of pucks look better too.

Sorry for the confusion. I divided total points by total number of minutes played this season. Obviously that is not points / 60 minutes. I had a brain fart when naming the stat. It is just a ratio of production.

I got tired of defending Gags in the game chat last night. Obviously he is not the guy he was a few years ago, but he is nowhere near as bad as most would make out. He has had a couple concussions, but who in the league hasn't? The big problem he had was a huge freaking mass in his neck which was removed in LA. He is a defensive minded forward with some scoring touch left. If he were to accept a reasonable deal (say 3 years / 2.5 to 3 mil per) how do you not try to extend him? Anyway, to the naysayers who don't think he could ever put up 40 points in a season.... Flyers top 13 forwards this year: points per 60 minutes #93 - .060 #17 - .047 #28 - .046 #10 - .039 #24 - .034 #12 - .031 #48 - .030 #9 - .027 #26 - .026 #14 - .022 #19 - .020 #25 - .019 #36 - .019 His production is only behind Voracek, Simmonds, Giroux, Schenn, and Read. He is not much ahead of Danny, but he ummmm.... plays defense and is not a center. Any thoughts?

If Calgary and Colorado win their next games we will be in a 3 way tie for the #2 pick. edit...actually Washington and Tampa both have more ROW than us so we would have #2 locked up. I do hope to see what Gags can do with Schenn/Simmonds. I think he has something left in the tank, and with the right line chemistry should be a 25G/30A guy for a few more years to close out his career here at a reasonable rate.

I think Digity should make a prediction game out of Bobrovsky. Here is my prediction through the end of next season.

in fairness to Read he is actually producing at a slightly higher PPG level than last year. if he ends up as a 25G/25A guy for the long haul it's all good, especially since we plucked him out of obscurity.

You can't help but like the guy. Barring jail, or a reality show in his future, he will probably just float through life with people thinking he is a dirtbag. But he has good qualities, like you say.
