  1. Does the NHL actually cover some of the cost of putting up these outdoor rinks or do they just expect the local government to subsidise them?
  2. Merry Christmas to all, and for a more local addition to the thoughts put by OccamsRazor, I'm lifting a glass to all those volunteer firefighters battling fires all over the country. Australia has the biggest volunteer firefighting force in the world, and they're all working hard saving lives and property. This is a bad fire season, and they've been hard at work for a long time now. I know I wouldn't have the courage to face the hellscapes they have had to deal with.
  3. Yep, apparently they'll be wearing them in 13 home games, because management at Buffalo aren't superstitious. The design itself seems... ehh, uninspired. I get what they're going for, but it just looks like a very stripey away jersey
  4. Have they said what the drug was, or is that a secret?
  5. Article Late Wednesday night the Golden Knights began trimming down by sending Erik Haula and his $2.75M cap hit to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for 22-year-old prospect Nicolas Roy and a conditional 2021 fifth-round pick.
  6. As the DOPS explained, the responsibility for making sure a check is legal is the responsibility of the person executing the hit. He didn't make enough of an effort to do so, and there's no movement by the person being hit that would have made an otherwise legal hit into an illegal one
  7. https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2019/05/23/d-j-smith-hired-as-new-ottawa-senators-head-coach/amp/ Apparently he spent four years being assistant coach at Toronto, and before that coached the Oshawa Generals. I'm not sure what to think of this, he seems likely he's capable, not sure whale happen with him
  8. No announcement on a name, but the gear they've given out has been red-black, so probably that colour scheme
  9. Two years, they're starting in the 21-22 season. Apparently that's how much time they need to finish the stadium

    Sorry

I knew Bethesda ran the NHL
  11. I voted for the jerks in seven, mostly because that's how I want it to end... though Boston will be quite the challenge.
  12. I voted Sharks in six, though I wouldn't be surprised if it went to seven. This is a match up I've been looking forward to, it should prove to be entertaining
  13. Sharks - Blues, well, I've been looking forward to this potential pairing. This should be a very entertaining match up, which of course I'll be wanting Sharks to win.
  14. I remember posting the video of this and giving it the caption 'watch a man's career end in 5 seconds'. I'm pretty sure he hasn't played for the Sens since. I'd say the biggest question those in management need to as themselves is "why do players hate being here?" Form is part of it, but there's clearly a toxic culture at a management level that needs rooting out. Vague whispers of Dorion treating star players like **** leak out every now and then, if this is the case it would help explain things. It also strengthens my belief that he shouldn't work at any NHL club. Ever. Brad Shaw has also put his hand up to be considered. I wouldn't be surprised if they stayed with Crawford out of laziness and cheapness. I'm pretty sure Anderson's contract is at an end. They'd be crazy to renew it so hey, watch this space. That said, Nilsson has potential to be great, given the right coaching. Next season I see them getting off the bottom of the ladder. But not by much.
  15. Hmm, Islanders are in trouble against an assertive Canes. Some good games, still
  16. The more I think about this, the more it bugs me. Firstly, it's rewarding poor behaviour on the side of Vegas. I dislike the sort of carry on that happens whenever anyone carries on about officiating, and when it's paired with lobbying to change the rules, well, it shouldn't be rewarded. Secondly the league seems to have a paper thin loyalty to its officials, willing to throw them under the bus when criticised. The AFL goes for the compete opposite, where if coaches criticise the umpires they are fined due to a general position that the umpires shouldn't be undermined publicly like that. Instead, there's an official channel to deal with these issues (and they actually are dealt with properly instead of the public kangaroo court the NHL seems to prefer). Bah.
  17. Plus it was the third game they could have eliminated SJ, with game six ending with a SHG
  18. I like cbj's style, and I don't like Boston. I voted Columbus in five though that's mainly what I want the result to be
  19. Avalanche well be a challenge but I see the Sharks gritting through this one, Sharks in seven
