  1. I'd be beating something... but not cakes. But I wouldn't mind seeing her buns... Nice to see a girl with a one track mind, wonder which one of the Hawks is tapping her...
  2. And therein lies the problem... We just don't know whats gonna happen until draft day.
  3. Yep, totally agree. Not sure exactly what it is like in the states but here in Europe every lottery drawing that I can think of is done live on TV. Not because they need to , it just ensures that everyone believes it is random. The problem is when they start to do these things behind closed doors it looks improper even when it isn't. All they needed was large bowl with an appropriate number of balls in it, shouldn't be too difficult to achieve really!
  4. This is Craig Button's personal take on the draft rankings and apart from the consensus top 5 it bears spectacularly little resemblance to the rankings of either ISS or NHL Central Scouting. There is no chance in hell that Risto will drop to 20, we will be lucky if he is there for us at 11.
  5. So many comments, so little time... Talk about setting up an open goal LOL
  6. That is undoubtedly true... But if you subbed out Bryz and put any other Flyer saying those things we would all be agreeing with them wholeheartedly! +1 on this, the guy has decent sources and writes some thoughtful pieces. Only pity is he blogs on hockeybuzz but we can't all be perfect I guess
  7. Whilst I don't have an awful lot of time for Bryz as a goalie and team mate some of the stuff he said in the end of season Q&A with the media was spot on. A selection of his quotes... t’s not like fair or unfair. We already had the conversation. It’s just ridiculous. Just ridiculous. Sometimes you’re reading and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, who is this lunatic?’ What are they writing about. It was nothing close to the truth or close to related to hockey. You read this and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to deal with these people every day.’ I’ve said it before, guys. Before you’re writing something you’ve got to read what you’re writing. I’m two years here. I never saw it like good article with everything, like, ‘Flyers lose the game because this, this, this, this, this. They need to improve their game like this, this, this or this.’ I never. That’s what called professionalism. It’s like, ‘OK, this reporter knows hockey. He knows what he talking about.’ Can't really argue with any of that, especially when he has to deal with grade A idiots like Carchidi and Seravalli, never mind Tim Panaccio You never look yourselves in the mirror, eh? You’re always good. You never make the mistakes. Your articles are always perfect. In reality, what have you done for this city? If you ask yourself, what have you done besides only criticize? Not much. Can't really argue with any of that either! Like I say in general I ain't a Bryz lover but on this topic he has my heartfelt sympathy. 8. @flyercanuck Risto could well be gone by the time we pick at 11th or could still be available, it really depends on the organisational needs of the teams picking above us. Take a look at the ISS rankings below http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-30/ , it is interesting to see the differences between their rankings and NHL Central Scouting. The bottom line is no-one knows whether the teams above us have a "pick best player available" mentality or "fill team positional need" mentality. Either way I will be crossing my fingers that he is still available when we pick. 1 Jones, Seth RD 6.03.5 208 Portland 2 Nichushkin, Valery F 6.04 202 Chelyabinsk Traktor 3 MacKinnon, Nathan C 6 182 Halifax 4 Drouin, Jonathan C 5.10.75 185 Halifax 5 Barkov, Sasha F 6.03 209 Tappara 6 Nurse, Darnell LD 6.03.5 189 S.S. 9. As per nhl.com http://www.nhl.com/i...id=nhl:topheads Joe Sacco out as Avalanche coach after four seasons The Colorado Avalanche have fired coach Joe Sacco, the team announced Sunday. Sacco was hired June 4, 2009, to replace Tony Granato. The Avalanche made the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Sacco's first season, earning the eighth seed in the Western Conference before losing to the top-seeded San Jose Sharks in the first round. They have failed to qualify in each of the three seasons since. Colorado slumped from 95 points to 68 points in his Sacco's second season, but with the help of Calder Trophy winner Gabriel Landeskog, the Avalanche improved to 88 points in 2011-12 and remained in the playoff chase until late in the campaign. This season began with the team's top scorer from a year ago, Ryan O'Reilly, without a contract. There was a slow start (losses in four of six) and the Avalance never climbed above .500 again. Dropping eight of nine near the end of March was the worst stretch, but Colorado never won more than two games in a row this season and finished in 29th place in the League standings for the second time in three years. "The organization believes a change of leadership behind the bench is needed going forward," Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman said in a statement. "Joe has worked for this franchise for eight seasons and he is a dedicated and hard-working coach. We appreciate all he has done and wish him the best in the future." The next coach of the Avalanche will be in charge of restoring a once-proud franchise. Colorado made the playoffs in each of its first 10 years after moving to Denver from Quebec City and won the Stanley Cup twice, but the Avalanche have reached the postseason twice since 2006. Colorado will possess one of the top three picks in the 2013 NHL Draft as well a roster with several quality young players including Landeskog, O'Reilly and Matt Duchene. Sacco finished 130-134-30 in four seasons with the Avalance. It was his first job as an NHL coach after four years in the American Hockey League, including the two prior to joining the Avalanche as coach of Colorado's AHL affiliate in Cleveland, the Lake Erie Monsters. So Sacco is gone and Sherman is the one doing the firing... Two ways to look at it I guess, one down, one to go, or more likely that Sherman gets another year to see whether things come good for them. I still think you are right and that they don't trade for Miller but you never know...
  10. @flyercanuck, I would be comfortable picking up Pulock if he was still there but would certainly prefer to take Ristolainen if he was available instead. And it goes without saying that I would take Nurse over either of them but the reality is he will almost certainly be off the board by then. Pulock does have a rocket of a shot (then again so does Kurtis Foster ) but overall I prefer the prefer the size of Risto at 6"4 210, who also plays a more physical game.
  11. You would and I would... Whether Homer and "Mr Snider" would is of course entirely another matter . Given their pathological distrust of anything not Scandi/North American I don't know if they would. Of course Bryz doesn't really help the perception of Russians as being potentially flaky
  12. Not doubting you in any way, just wondering where your source for this info is? Didn't see it mentioned on nhl.com...
  13. All the more reason not to take him... D men need time to mature and bringing them into the NHL too quickly can ruin them. Personally I would be very happy with Zadorov myself, his physicality and cannon of a shot could be very useful to us in a couple of years. That said, I have nothing against Rasmus, he would also be a great D man for us. Whether Homer has the wit to recognise this is entirely another matter...
  14. I may be wrong but I would say Colorado is a more likely destination than Florida. Dale Tallon is a highly regarded guy who has been there less than 3 years and has drafted some nice young talent. I think he gets a minimum of one more year or so to show whether or not Florida can compete. Colorado seems more likely to me in terms of pure logic (not that that is much in existence in hockey!). Greg Sherman has been in charge for over four years and was effectively assistant GM for the 7 years before that and as such the lack of team success can be laid at his door to a fair degree. Apart from the 2009/10 season Sacco has flattered to deceive and does not seem able to get the team motivated and successful. After four years he too may be coming to an end of his shelf life. IF (and it;s a big if) Colorado decided to replace their front office team then potentially Ruff could fill the roles however like you I don't really see this happening. In today's NHL the two roles are really too much for one man IMO.
  15. Rangers eliminated Buffalo from playoff contention last night, beating them 8-4, including an incredible 5 goals in less than 3 minutes spanning the first and second periods. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=72&id=240696&navid=nhl:topheads Miller was yanked after the fourth and Enroth didn't do hugely better, being beaten on his first shot! I know this is Buffalo they were playing but seriously, eight goals?! We couldn't manage one goal against Buffalo and yet manage to beat the Rangers and look good doing it. Just can't understand the inconsistency of the Flyers.
  16. Fortunately they play the games on ice... Likewise, I don't think you want any part of the Rangers in an opening series. Even if you win they will take their toll physically. The other team you don't want is Ottawa, especially if they get Erik Karlsson back as has been mooted. If I were a Pens fan I would be fairly comfortable with the Isles, Jets or Sabres. That said I really don't see Buffalo making it to the playoffs but stranger things have happened. They were absolutely dire against the Flyers recently, offensively challenged doesn't begin to describe them.
  17. Easy... Just push Lindsay Lohan round the surface...
  18. Good memory! You are absolutely right... Per nhl.com's report of the trade: Going to the Stars are a second-round pick in 2012 that the Flyers acquired from the Los Angeles Kings in last summer's Mike Richards deal and a third-round pick in 2013 that they got from Minnesota for Darroll Powe last June. Not a bad use of a 2nd rounder on this occasion IMO.
  19. Well on an educational note I had forgotten that Boulerice played for the Phantoms for so many years before getting (and blowing) his chance with the Flyers. Do you know where he ended his career? 2 seasons with the baby pens in 9-10 and 10-11!
  20. Well if we are going on that basis take out Carcillo's four games for a sucker punch, seeing as how that was fight related also... But I don't disagree with your main premise that the Pens are not the dirtiest in the league. Occasional high profile incidents (can you say Matt Cooke?) may colour peoples perception, in the same way that Dan Carcillo being on our team coloured others too. Doesn't necessarily mean you or we are necessarily the dirtiest team in the league...
  21. I'll bite on this one... Since 2009 the stats are as follows: 2009-10 Suspensions Total Games PHL 3 8 PIT 1 2 2010-11 PHL 3 7 PIT 3 31 2011-12 PHL 4 17 PIT 5 11 PHL 10 32 PIT 9 44 In other words you guys have actually had more games missed through suspension than us but one less suspendable incident. So it doesn't really look like the Flyers have been twice as dirty according to those figures. On that basis selective memory looks as if it may apply to you as well as some others Both clubs have had their share of incidents and douchebag players but seem to be fairly even in terms of record. See here for my source: http://nhlsuspensions.com/ PS Sorry for the formatting of the table, can't get it to work either pasting from excel or word, hope it is understandable.
  22. I grant you that the goal difference is not huge but Bryz looked outstanding in Phoenix and had good stats to back it up, hence why we signed him. Mike Smith looked like crap in Tampa and yet looks like a different goalie in Phoenix. Whether that is down to the coach, his system or the water in Phoenix I don't know for sure but when was the last time the Flyers took an average goalie and made him look better?
  23. I am pretty sure Cousins was drafted in the 3rd round with a pick we got from CBJ... We got a 2nd round pick plus Simmer and Schenn for Richie, and I am pretty sure Homer gave that pick away to someone else.
