  1. Many good comments here. I like the way the Flyers are playing this time of year compared to other years. Great game to watch yesterday! Hate the shootout too. It's like ending a tie basketball game with a slam dunk contest. What's so bad about a tie game?
  2. I like the moves the team made so far this offseason but still think Vinnie's contract was a bit much... well, until I saw the Clowe and Horton deals. Defense still concerns me a little but there's tons of rumors about a trade involving that position so we'll see what happens. Have to admit I like the goalie situation going into this season. Mason is capable of pitching shutouts and Emery seemed very capable last season when he filled in for Crawford. Granted Emery had the 'hawks D in front of him but the game or two I saw he was very sharp.
  3. For Bryz (or any goalie) to steal a game, he needs a lead. I'm only referencing last night's game not the entire season but he did not have a lead to work with. MIssed the game but from what I've read on this thread; he didn't svck.
  4. Don't know of any top 4 D-men available. Guess this guy helps round out the rotation on defense. I honestly cannot remember seeing him play.
  5. Not crazy about this but not *that* upset either. The best I can come up with is I guess it's cheap insurance in goal.
  6. @jammer2: Yes, wish we had that problem. @flyercanuck: Thanks again!
  7. @flyercanuck Thanks for the info. Never saw or heard of Jordan. I did watch the Canada - Russia game and thought the goalie brother (sorry, never caught his first name) played outstanding.
  8. No thanks on this silly trade idea. Courtesy of the lockout, our current defense is healed from off-season surgeries and should be healthy enough for a 48 game regular season. (minus Pronger) That further diminishes the need for trying to get someone like PK Subban. By the way, is PK related to the goalie for Team Canada's junior team?
  9. Thanks for the post. There's a decent list of players we may not see on the ice again. I thought it was a shame not seeing Scott Stevens again after the last lockout. I think the author missed Marty Brodeur on his list of players who may retire if this year is lost. Will Carolina fans really miss Semin if there's no season this year?
  10. I voted "not sure". I agree the head shots need to go while not wanting to see a no-checking league either. Maybe I'll look at some footage from the NHL in the 50's. No helmets, minimal padding, and if I recall there wasn't the same types of hits like this.
  11. Back to the initial post on this thread...if Homer doesn't include Coots in a deal for Weber(pre-offer sheet) why would he trade him for Subban? PK doesn't suck that bad but that's a bad trade idea.
  12. I wouldn't mind Colaiacovo but I thought he's print to injuries. Guess Walker will have another chance as well.
  13. @flyercanuck Great points. I'm not a GM, didn't play one on TV, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express but I could draft Crosby and Malkin when given the opportunity. A better example of good drafting is Detroit when Scotty Bowman was in charge. And, to a certain degree, David Poile has done a nice job drafting in Nashville.
  14. Yes. I'd like Ryan on the Flyers but not at the price we'd have to pay in players and picks.
  15. I don't read as many news services than most here so pardon the dumb question: Are there any outlets reporting Flyers interest in signing Kane to an offer sheet? Even if there is, we never know what Holmgren is doing until we get blindsided by reports like the Weber offer sheet.
  16. Let's not forget they let Hamhuis walk two years ago. They dealt his rights to us but he wanted to play in Vancouver. If they lost Weber that would have been 3 all-star D-men gone in 2 years. PS: I was never a Hamhuis fan.
  17. Jammer, that's the problem with this team. If we had Weber, Suter, and 25 year old versions of Ray Bourqe & Rob Blake as the top units it wouldn't matter if the forwards do not help defensively. Since at least '95, the Devils players have bought into a system and execute that system well. Sure, we'd win a lot of games but probably wouldn't go any deeper than 2nd round or conference finals playing like that. Sometimes I wonder if there isn't something symptomatic about the Flyers organization in general. Seems players come here and get comfortable. Sometimes the team takes a period or two if not the entire night off when they're on the ice. That aside, we have coaches trying to implement a system and either the systems are bad or the players cannot execute or do not want to buy into it. On the positive note, the team did accumulate what, 105 points (?) during the regular season and went to the 2nd round of the playoffs. This happened during a supposed rebuilding year. There's a great core of young players that should only get better.
  18. Jammer, you nailed it! How many times does a club that prides itself on its work ethic get out worked and out hustled? You're correct, it is very tough to watch. In the case of the Devils series, I can't blame our D 100%. Way too many times there were only the defensive pair trying to come out of their zone with the forwards hanging around in neutral ice like it was still the Pens series!?!? The forwards didn't help as much as they should. The Kings figured it out. Shorter outlet passes and the forwards helped the D.
  19. I'd like Doan but not for a 4 - 5 year contract. Also don't think he's worth $6M/year. How would a 4 year deal work with his age? Would a 4 year, front loaded deal average over each year for the cap hit because he'd turn 40 in the 4th year? I forget how that works.
  20. This is similar to another thread/poll. I'd give the C to Briere whether Weber is here or not. He's good with the younger players. Guess I have no problem with three A's either. If we get Weber, like OSR29 said in this thread: he has to earn it here. Which I have no doubt he would earn it.
  21. I agree with this. Let Nashville keep the picks or trade other prospects but leave the D intact. Kimmo is retiring in a couple of years and either MAB or Gus have experience to step into the lineup. Injuries happen, etc. keep the depth on defense. Is it 11:30PM on Wednesday yet? :-)
  22. Yeah, I'd do that...for $1000 cash (small bills) or certified check. Seriously, I'd let Nashville keep our picks and try to get one or two of their first round picks in exchange for maybe Gus/MAB and maybe Read. I'm not sure if Read is a one season wonder or a long term solid player. The assumption on getting a Nashville pick instead of any of our 4x 1st rounders is the Nashville pick would be better picks. That said, I'm a better fan than GM. :-))
