  1. I was thinking the same thing..... isn't that Hartnell? And didn"t he just score a bunch of goals last year and sign a new contract? Why in the hell do you bring in another guy like him?
  2. Any pain endured by a Leafs fan is totally justified
  3. @jammer2 The '06 team had Forsberg teaming with gags. that was exciting and we all had hope every game that it would be fireworks. I remember them taking detroit apart one game. It also had Carter and richards. There were at least guys who would go out a play like they cared. This teams looks as inspired as a local rec league team. In New Mexico, that's pretty bad
  4. Hey Howie... I have the same issue. I think its the modern age of social media and the team being uninteresting. I liken it to watching the game with some friends while enjoying a few beverages. If the game is boring, which most Flyer games are, you will find the company more interesting an engaging. There is nothing on this team to watch. there is no superstar to cheer for. there are no fights (common to Philly teams). There is no chance of winning. It got so bad for me last night, that I don't even know how the game got tied, and then lost in OT. But I know I'm not surprised it ended like that
  5. Where is the player that is "stepping up" ? I hear Hartnell, Voracek, Timmonen and others all saying they aren't getting it done. But like Rad said, "Why the hell not!" Who is ont he ice taking matters into their own hands? last season Giroux did just that agains the Penguins. This season there seems to be a lot of acceptance of mediocrity, but no one is doing anything about it. I'm not saying some guys aren't putting in effort (Rinaldo, Simmonds), but what about the rest of them. Why not pick up the intensity and see if that sparks your play. the was a recent article giving stats of how the Flyers play better in games in which they have a fight. I'm not saying that is the answer, but why not at least try it. C'mon Hartnell, be a leader. If you aren't scoring, and you dumb ass is going to go to the box anyway, why not engage someone and see if the emotion has a trickle down effect
  6. at this point, I really hope this team tanks even more. I watch each game with amused interest. I hope for rinaldo to beat someone up and for Giroux to have a highlight goal. After that, I just laugh. Its not a ha- ha, laugh. It s a disgusted I can't believe it is really this bad laugh. The farther they fall the better the chance of getting a good draft pick
  7. I can't go... I hate all the other teams
  8. @canoli Curse, no curse...that's a load of chicken hooey to me. However, at all levels of competition there is the reality that mental pressure, specifically self imposed, can affect your level of play. My concern with Giroux, and again with Richards, was the responsibility, perceived or otherwise, effected thier emotional and mental game, causing their on ice play to suffer. Maturity plays a big part in things. So does comfort. Why do you thinnk their are so many superstitions associated with players. They don't shave, they need a certain number, they eat the same food.. etc. I'm sure players are well aware of the history of the Flyers and the predecessors who played there. Add in fan base and media pressure and it can really impact a person
  9. Its really not up to you to "understand" anything. I am entitled to my opinion and post according to it. I could very easily say the same thing to you, "I don't understand why you keep ignoring a self explanatroy post, and keep changing it back to your individual arguement". We had that discussion already. Let it go. I GET IT! The Flyers gave Briere a NMC. They signed it! Its thier fault! He retains the right to veto! BLAH-BLAH-BLAH Let's move on ... My point is that the Flyers have treated him right. They gave him the clause. They signed him to what you and others identify as a ridiculous deal. I have not seen a single shred of evidence to suggest that they have done a single thing disrespectful or hurtful to him. From a fan perspective, it makes sense that if the franchise asked him to waive, to help the team, and give him a chance to compete for the prize, that he would do so. AGAIN, I KNOW HE DOESN'T HAVE TO! But, if he is saying no, for whatever reason, then gets bought out and signs wherever he wants, then I think he is a complete jackass. That is the nature of sports being a business. For me though, I think the business side of it makes athletes self centered a-holes and I choose to have no respect for players like that. I think back to a guy like Jeremy Roenick. I loved that guy and hated to see him go. But, he understood what the organization was doing and handled it with grace and class. I will always be a fan of a guy like that.
  10. As with the post addressed by Rodoran, and in reference to your quote, can you identify where I said Giroux sucked, or was a bust? In fact, I think i said, "Giroux will be fine." I think anytime a player is playing below his potential, criticism is warranted. there are two real possibilities here... 1) giroux is a good player having a sub par season, 2) Giroux had a great season which is not the norm, and what we are seeing now is. I don't think its the latter, and therefore, criticism is warranted. I think he is trying to hard to make the perfect pass and is reluctant to shoot. He should be a little more selfish. I am totally on board with Rad's point of view here, I won't be gettinng myslef all spun up over Giroux having a hat trick agaisnt the Islanders or becasue he sprawls out trying to keep the puck in the zone. As a fan, I expect him to be the best player on this team and the captain. I tune in to each game expecting to see the player that earned that position, not another reminder of it being the wrong decision. You cite Richards and make the point that he was compared to Clarke too soon, and unjustifiably so, and therefore you aer sensitive about it. By the same token I compare Giroux to Richards with the same sensitivity, worried that this team is going to run another promising star right out of town
  11. I guess it never really occured to me, although it is obvious, and therefore shuldn't be surprising that I didn't get it, but Briere can just walk away and go wherever he wants if he is bought out. So, to recap, some say he has a NMC and wants to stay in Philly for family. Others (ME) say he should waive and let the team get retunr for him in a trade. But now, it seems to make sense for him top just stay pat, coast through this shortened season, get bought out and move on. Well there is a great big schidt-burger he could be serving up to the franchise. If this happens, and he is well within his rights to do it, I wondering how all your Briere lovers will react
  12. Grossman and Briere were both scratched with UBI curiious!
  13. they might end up keeping him because they don't have a better option
  14. Somone mentiouned the Flyer brass is unusually quiet right now.... this could be nothing more than posturing to impact the market for what they really want. Not that I know what that is
  15. BLASPHAME! HOW IN THE <BLEEEEP> CAN ANYONE HAVE THE NERVE TO SAY EVEN THE SLIGHTEST NEGATIVE THING ABOUT GIROUX? SHAME ON ALL YOU! A POX ON YOUR HOUSE! Is that what being a fan of the Flyers has come to? Do we just find solice in good effort and produce an endless stream of excuses when anyone has the nerve to criticize the play of the team's best player? We are on here praising Briere because of his past playoff performances without any credence to the position that his regular season play, or lack thereof, may result in the team not even making it. Seriously, how do you hold value as a post season player on a team that won't even be there? I don't know about all of you, but I'm getting fed up with watching this team putting players on the roster who seem to not have the heart to play up to their potential in pressure situations. If Giroux is having a bad year beacause the coach labeled him, or because they made him captain, then he is not the player this team needs. Didn't they learn their lesson with Richards? If these things are enough to mentally diminish giroux, then they should trade him for any guy who actually has heart and won't buckle due to comments. Me personally, I think the team sucks! I think the play is suffering because of it. Everyone is trying to hard and losing is the cause of the poor play. I also think a roster with aging re-treads and and a piss poor goalie kills your confidence and brings down your play. I hope this team unloads some of this crap and starts all over. Giroux will be fine. So will Coots, Schenn and Coburn. There is a solid core in place. All that has to happen now is for the team to change they way they think and build for the future. Good luck with that happening
  16. I guess the other intagible will be who they can get to replace him (Bryz). And go figure, he looked good against Pissberg
  17. maybe this question was already asked ... if the Pronger trade wasn't made, would it have resulted in the Flyers being better today?
  18. I don't disagree Canoli.. I want him moved to. In the beginning, I was a big advocate of the move and the money they spent. I argued that Bob should have been traded because Bryz would get 60+ starts a season, so why keep him when he could bring something in return. Well.... I thinnk i was dead wrong. Bryz is not a good teammate in my opinion, or a good goalie. He played good, got paid, and now he could care less. But, my question was, would the Flyers hang on to him longer, knowing he wasn't the guy, just to save face? Or, if they sent him packing, would someone become the fall guy for it?
  19. there are two moves the Flyers have made that I absolutely loved that never came to be... Pronger and Forsberg I don't regret for a second seeing them in O/B, but I really wish they would have panned out to what they could have become. Oh, and I also loved that metrosexual that wore 97 and blocked pucks with his face Now if they would just sign John Scott, i would sleep easier at night
  20. i don't think I phrased the question properly. You have to forgive me, too many years of licking the bus windows has tainted my objective sanity. I guess I was asking, does Homer and Lavy take the blame for Bryz, and subsequently lose thier jobs over it if he gets bought out?
  21. I often wonder how many times a Flyer GM is forced to go along in order to maintain his job. This seems confirmed when you look at how often an ex-player (loyal "yes" man) is hired for key positions. Is Homer a bad GM? Or is he a good GM who's hands are tied by a micro managing owner?
  22. How useful will Snider be in 3-4 years? Does that play a part in this decision?
