  1. Im not discounting this POV, the change in management is a positive. However, decisions they make in the near future will tell us more about who they really are. my POV is that I like what Im watching. I find myself wanting to tune in. The players executing and the coaching responsible for that, has revived my juice for Flyer hockey
  2. Oh…..again….. Cal Petersen is not an NHL caliber goalie. He’s a hole in the roster
  3. Oh….. I hate the new style jerseys
  4. Having had the opportunity to watch a handful of games, I am excited about the Flyers again. Growing up with the Flyers I would watch with the expectation of a win, great goals, and of course on ice fireworks. A lot of that has died. Since the Flyers are no longer built with the goon mentality, and since there are no “superstars” ( maybe TK), and being out of market, I had worries about what would bring back that same team excitement to watch this team battles for 60. They work as a team. They don’t quit. I like the decisions making and passing at even strength. I love the high energy effort of the PK. And thanks to ND we still get legendary fights. I give all credit for the on ice performance to Torts. I really like the lineup and culture DB and Jonesy are putting together this is a team Philly can be proud of
  5. What I’m seeing is the puck carrier coming up the ice has no idea what he’s going to do with it. When he does, the player receiving the puck isn’t ready because he had no idea is happening either. When they try to carry it in, they bunch up at the line and are easy to defend. Pissburg made them look silly on a dbl minor. In those instances where they do gain the zone, defenders just pressure the puck carrier and he cough up the puck easily. On this rare occasions where they get set up for a shot, it’s hurried and usually misses the net to me this looks like poor preparation and coaching
  6. I’d kind of like to see him play like this for more than one season.
  7. Ha ha ha ha…..way to go Mr Glue, can’t even score on an empty net lovin that Scott Laughton
  8. Watching the game vs NJ I was so frustrated watching the power play. How is it year in, year out, this never gets better? I understand player personnel issues but I don’t get how this squad plays well on the penalty kill and sucks with the advantage. They look lost, out of sync, and dysfunctional. is it a coaching issue
  9. I stated yesterday that it wouldn't bother me at all if the trade Konecny. I've done some reading and then watched him against TOR. This guy really demonstrates what I've come to want from Flyer players. He plays the game hard for 60, with production. I really expected him to duplicate what he did after his first all star appearance, go into the tank. Thats probably just Philly doom I've developed over the decades. He's proven me wrong. Like many here I hope they can keep him, but not at the price tag we have been arguing.
  10. I get the logic that everyone is using. And I agree with it for the most part. I also think its irresponsible to give a long term contract to an older player when you are still building (rebuilding) your roster. On an established team, maybe it makes more sense, and of course with a superstar its a no brainer. Where I get tripped up is when you take a 27-28 year old who is playing his best, and may still have upside, then you move him because the assumption is he will decline in two or three years. These guys arent robots. And although its a business, sending a message to mature FAs that they have no future with the team past a certain age, could hinder you when the time comes where you need that one big player to put you over the top
  11. Ok. So what is this magic age benchmark? Is it 27? 23? Are players all considered on the decline when they hit this age? Are players in their 30's useless?
  12. Im not sure, do thy have injuries in Russia? or is that just an North America thing. A lot can happen in three years
  13. your argument rests on the certainty that Michov is here, and is all he's hyped to be. So I'll answer a question with a question, what if he doesn't get here? What if hes the next Morgan Frost? as for Tippett, he is here. You play him where he has the most impact on the ice
  14. See. This is what gets me. TK being on the 3rd line in three years is speculation. Its not a proven. What happens if he equals or improves his production in the next three. The assumption being made here is that what he currently is, is the best he will be. Im still not saying to give him that much money, I just don't think you can accurately predict his value in three years. Also, planning the future of a current player based on the promise of a player who 1) isnt here, 2) may never be here, and 3) might take three years to develop IF he does get here (see all current rookies who have become Flyers in the last 3 to 5 seasons), is just irresponsible I remember two seasons ago a few posters had Allison slated as a power play and first line starter when he had some promising games late in the season. How'd that work out?
  15. Let me do a reset here..... Im not really a big TK fan. I think hes a nice player. On a team with a few established top liners, he could be a Brad Marchand type. If they traded him, I wouldn't lose a wink. And I agree with not mortgaging the future for a feeble chance to make the playoffs. I just think moving a guy because he's a certain age is a weak and careless way to operate. Doing it this way means the only way to have success is drafting a bunch of 18 year olds, never moving any of them, and hope that by 24-26 they have developed into a championship caliber team. Its possible, but it really relies on having the right coach in position long term. Is Torts that guy?
  16. I get all the points being made, except Laughton (ugh). I just think its silly to not sign a guy just because he's a certain age. The Flyers are rebuilding. If TK fits in that plan, and plays at an all star level for five years of an 8 year contract, thats a good thing. I also recognize the old ways have made most of us doubt this organization is capable of making sound decisions. It appearss the new method has already shown the old ways, by that I mean stupid, are no longer being deployed. It wouldn't worry me. However, if they do sign him long term, and it costs them valuable assets later, I welcome all of you saying, "I told you so"
  17. I really think making decisions just because of age is a mistake. If TK is averaging 25-30 goals, and 45-60 pts a season for the next 5 years, is he worth the contract he wants?
  18. Priceless…. well played!
