This. Exactly this.
Provided he doesn't price himself out of the Flyers by then, I'm okay with him doing his thing until he's 29 and has a team in front of him.
Funny his role model was Carey Price. Sadly, his career is shaping up to be just like Carey's.
Will Smith. In Philly. What could go wrong?
He'll take a wrong turn, accidentally end up in West Philly. He'll get in one little fight and his mom will get scared and send him to live with his uncle and auntie in a place called Bell-Air. Where he'll smack the **** out of some dude named Chris.
@flyercanuck
I'm clearly blocked. So use names like Manny Trillo, Ron Cey, Olga Korbut, and Bill Russell. He won't know the difference.
Make sure to mention that for certain Olga Korbut is the next Matts Sundin but more multi-positional.
I think people remember the goalie thing and the playoffs and tend to forget how excruciatingly frustrating and inconsistent the team itself was. The laissez faire "it's just one game" and "we'll turn a switch" attitude. They got in winning a shootout they typically sucked at even back then. They were infuriating.
1000 chances I'll take that over this team the last 5 years they time. Every. Single. Time.
The playoffs were fun. The regular season was excruciating. It really wasn't just the goalies (that didn't help).
That said. You have Carter Hart or even Corey Hart in goal (Corey's Canadian. You don't know!) we're going to a parade.
I keep Hart. He's only 24. He's RFA at the end of next season. Pay him decently but don't stretch. Keep him vaguely cost controlled and move him later, if necessary. But at this point, there's no reason to think in terms of 3 or 4 years when he's only 24. I don't think you're going to get more value from trading him than you'd get from him staying and playing well when the team is ready. There just aren't a lot of successful goalie trades. Vancouver got a 9th for Schneider (Horvat) so that arguably turned out well, but not so much for New Jersey. It just doesn't happen a ton and the return isn't usually that great.
The only way I'd be tempted is if our first and Hart get the first overall. I don't think that works, though, because Fletcher is HERE. I doubt another GM is dumb enough to do that.
Get Hart a defense. He's good enough.
Way to go, O'Connor. Love me some uncomfortable television!
Good thing my local news comes from Wilkes-Barre. I get all the uncomfortable television a guy could ask for!
I don't give Snider ANY credit. How many cups without Keith Allen?
Even the 80s teams were remnants of Allen's work (Clarke made some nice moves when he first started).
I credit Snider for bringing hockey to Philly. Obviously there's more.
I also credit him for 2 decades of no goalie and wasting good teams. I credit him for allowing village idiots to run the show. I credit him for allowing the village idiots to take the franchise on his death.
Thanks Ed.
"Hello Domino's? Yeah, I'd like three--count them: three--day-old pizzas. Yes, I said day old. No, I don't care that they're in the dumpster. No, just leave it on the pizza, I have a development staff. $20!? For one? Oh, for all three? That doesn't sound right. I'm not paying less than $45. Perfect. Oh, and add a $50 tip for the delivery dude. I'll be there in 25 minutes to pick him up."
