  1. Context? You want context? Why do you hate America? When you put things "in context," the terrorists win! (If you must know, Doan was actually talking about roads and bridges.)
  2. That's the part that bothers me about it. Why behind closed doors? And why was it the only one? It may have been completely legit. Probably was, actually. But the closed doors thing gives it a stink they could have avoided by just doing it publicly...like every other year.
  3. I just disagree that ryan is at all necessary or even worth it. I'll pass
  4. Just to clarify..you're saying you like it if you're the Ducks?
  5. Polaris, I like your posts in this thread. Well-reasoned and make sense. I will ALWAYS be suspicious of the circumstances surrounding the lottery that became Sidney Crosby's pick. Not trying to make too big an issue of it, but I do think the league at the very least really screwed up in allowing the appearance of something wrong. I remember the Flyers' cup teams and how people around the league said they stole it and played like thugs, etc. Ticked me off. Even with three picks of Fleury, Malkin, and Crosby, you still have to build a team around that and try to do it within the cap. They did. They won. Next issue.
  6. It wasn't overboard. He wasn't riding the bike on a boat. It was overbank. Maybe overbarrier or overfence. But not overboard.
  7. For both Ryan and Doan: there is bidding to better your team and then there is bidding just to "win" the target of the bidding. The suggested rumor on Ryan is ridiculous. No one with any hockey sense can possibly think Ryan is worth anything close to that. I don't believe the rumor is at all reality but if it is, let some other team way overpay for Ryan and fire Homer if he even considered it.
  8. @Mad Dog Hey MD. Doing well....I mean, still breathing, anyway. I actually like Dubinsky and think a change of scenery will do well for him. By that, I mean a change from Columbus. The place is a cess pool. The Buckeyes are big there, apparently, but other than that...
  9. Agreed on the FA defensemen front and the labor possibility. I'm going to be extremely suspicious of Bourdon until proven otherwise. I'm not sure he has the hockey smarts and I thought he really regressed as he went along (happily impressed at first, then increasingly irritated with him). I'd like to see a little more of Gus, though. Could be the same there, but I haven't seen enough.
  10. Agreed. But do you really think Columbus fits that description?
  11. No thank you. Too much for too long. I'd rather try Voracek on the line with him. If that doesn't pan out, try Read or Wellwood for speed. If we're adding that kind of money, I'd really rather see it on D. Here's an idea: Keep a bunch of cap money back and actually be a player at the deadline.
  12. I just don't like any trade involving Read. He's one of my favorite players on the team right now (love the speed and the brains). Nothing against Ryan. I get that you have to trade something to get something, and I know Read's contract is certainly movable. I get the desire for Ryan on Giroux's line, but I really don't think it's necessary. People talk about wanting "bulk" or whatever on Giroux's line, but you have that with Hartnell (provided he stays on his skates). They'll likely try Voracek there, but if that results in failure, I wouldn't mind trying Read there. If they're going to make a trade that has an access of $4M returning, I would prefer it's for a defensman (said without knowing what possibilities, if any, there are).
  13. Exactly my thinking with the lines/roles things.
  14. Winder if ducks wouldn't take Lawton or whatever his name is, MAB and a pick.
  15. I'm not thinking because no way I'm doing that trade. Rad posted the numbers and there's a point about consistency, but also consider the difference in lines and roles. I dont trade a 1 year player with those numbers AND penalty kills for bobby ryan.
  16. Time will tell I guess, but I disagree. You'd have to offer me a LOT to move Read. Anr I would NOT include him in a deal for Ryan...who I really have no interest in trading for anyway.
  17. Wouldn't entirely blwme Kaptan on this one. It was in the shotbox as a tsn rumor so he may just have been asking what we thought
  18. I'm with Ctid. And I do remember the discussions back on Philly.com I wanted him because he was supposed to be some kind of stud, but I didn't know too much about him (so, I'm excused, right?) Habs was talking in the shoutbox about a deal for him involving Briere. I mean, I know Briere can disappear for large portions of the regular season, but I still don't like it...at all. If they do trade Briere for Boknowsnothing, I'm not sure where Homer thinks the offense is going to come from. BKN would be okay on a second or third pairing, I guess, but that's a huge chunk of change for that. -21 last year. I realize Calgary sucked, but that's still pretty horrible. No thank you.
  19. @flyercanuck Oh, maybe that's why I don't remember my wedding day.
