Pinto suspended half a season for sports betting

Young forward Shane Pinto who has been holding out for a better contract while the Sens try to move a body to free up the money to make it happen has been suspended for half a season (41 games) for sports betting.

It is all over the place as to what rule he supposedly violated. The big one in quite a few threads is that he may have bet on Hockey games that he was not involved in.  AGAIN this is unsubstantiated, but it is out there as more than just a possibility. I cannot think that he would get 41 games for putting a grand on the Raptors versus the Knicks.

Anyway, huge suspension out of the blue. Gotta think the whole story is a matter of days at most before the whole truth comes out......

Genius cap circumvention is what i will say.

So he has to sit for 41 more games and the deadline is March 8th.

By then they will know weather they are sellers or buyers by then.

In the meantime they went from no cap to 1.2 mill in cap space to operate with.

Teams were chomping at the bit to steal Pinto from them. Staves it off a little bit.

Yup....NHL is being very tight lipped as to exactly what happened, but pinto is not appealing the ruling.

Something rotten in Denmark. This has to be more than just gambling on the NCAA final four.

Well it’s been nearly a week and still no details. I get the feeling we’re going to have to wait for Mr. Pinto’s book. 41 games almost has to mean he was betting on his own team - despite the immediate denials.

The gambling laws are idiotic; hypocrisy on a national level.

No, this was reported on a couple of days ago. Pinto was having a friend place proxy bets for him, which you're not allowed to do. What the players didn't know is that the sportsbooks were forwarding the information to the NHL, regarding any player who created an account on their site. Gary Bettman had wanted to suspend Pinto for the year, but rather than have the fight, Pinto agreed to 41 games.
