Hey elmatus. Welcome to the board :) I'm gonna kick your butt in FHL this year!

On the Flyers scale of chances of that happening, I'd give it a Vinny.

For those keeping track, that's about one above a McDud.

Well the first game is in the books and the Flyers played for 60 minutes and more importantly had a strong start. They sustained their level of play for each period and Streit played a great defensive game. Mason would of wanted that second goal back but kept the team in the game with his stellar performance.

They got a point out of this game and the nice thing is that they're not satisfied with that point as it's no consolation prize for them.

The one thing they do have to work on and I think Hextall needs to hire an outside consultant/Assistant trainer is on 3 on 3 play. Their are 3 on 3 leagues out there that know how to play a system with 3 on 3 and what strategies are needed to be able to defend a counter attack, we saw our player staying to long in the offensive end when, was it MVD that stumbled and it turned to a 2 on 0 breakaway the other way, that's a coaching mistake.

Read scored! Schenn scored! our secondary scoring did exactly what they where suppose to do, I'm not too enthralled with Giroux, he needs to shake his head clear and go back to being what he was, when he was clutch. Sometimes it takes an @$$ whipping or a reality check, but I know he cares and wants to succeed. He started to show that towards the end of the game as how he was trying to win/hold on to the puck. He needs to bring back that predator drive, the streak of intent/willing his way to get his results.

Danny Briere had it.

They played as a unit and did very well against a fast team. This is a starting point and 10 games in will be a measuring gauge as to half of 20 game increments on where the team is at.

List of things to do:

Play 60 minutes     - Check.

Roll 4 lines             - Check.

Puck support          - In Progress.

Netfront presence  - Check.

Defense involved   - In Progress.

I agree if these guys can just learn to score one on one they will earn many more points this year. Just can't understand why guys struggle so much one on one.

Laughton lifts that puck just a little more they walk out with a win. A good start to the season. Wow really impressed by RJ he looked leap years better than last year.

This OT loss was bearable, RJ seems like he's back, great net presence and really solid defensive support. Streit was very sound defensively as well. Hakker wants all four lines rolling and he pretty much got that. I said this team can make the playoffs and I'm sticking to that statement. This team has 20 goal scorers on at least three lines with the fourth line collectively scoring another twenty goals. As long as the D keeps putting at minimum shots on net we should be OK offensively.

As long as the forwards play Hackstol team defense, we should be an asset to Mase.

Like coach Hakstol said, this was a good base effort and we'll look at all the things we did right and work on the details of correcting the things we can do better.

Ya it's to bad we lost the OT show, but I think loosing that keeps the team lean and hungry to win it in regulation. Like I said they need to bring in an assistant coach specialist who runs those 3 on 3 pickup league games to practice how to breakout and defend in 3 on 3 league play. Why reinvent the wheel when its already out there and been done before.

The nice tidbit on Coach Hakstol is that his teams get proggressively better as the season goes and his teams play on point towards the end of the season. I enjoyed hearing Coots and Simmer talk about that in regards to the little details of the game and how, they're understanding what they need to do and how Coach Hakstol wants them to play quicker and to make these fundamentals automatic and not have to think about them at high speed. I very much enjoyed the neutral zone play as it was being implemented and it should only get better. Yes there where some flaws in the game, but from the standpoint of having to learn from a new coach, line juggleing and injury management/roster cuts. They played alot smoother than what was advertised, and came out with a true chance to win it. C'mon just look at the shot differential in the first period alone! That there was already a win in my books. AND outplayed their competition in the third period, just that alone makes the season off to a good start.

Take advantage of their opportunities....that is what I want to guage them on this year, and hopefully will be coached into their heads, and that is where their 5 on 5 scoring can come from.

Beats the hell out of "get out there and skate harder!" as a coaching philosophy.

Onward and upward!

I am encouraged by the fact that it looked like Hakstol was actually coaching on the bench and interacting with the players and assistant coaches. It also appears he made some adjustments going into the third period. A far cry from just having Berube stand there chewing gum with that stupid look on his face for 3 hours.

I know its' funny that some of the players said it was close to Berube's i'm not buying that it looked so much more aggressive and everyone was challenging players with the puck taking away time and space.......if it was the same....so why was there a difference in the execution???

It didn't look similar to be besides they had 6 guys on the ice....that was all i seen that was similar.

I agree and it sounded like much better clear decisions on the ice in the Flyers own zone because on my broadcast i could hear the communication clearly a lot.

Very very little hesitation on what to do. I was impressed.

It may be a similar system, but now they have a coach who can actually coach them to implement it.

Cliche's are only good when you got down the fundamentals!

Coach Hakstol is teaching the fundamentals!!!

And again that is why our GM Hexy brought in our coach, especially for our youth movement...play the game the right way, on both sides.

There's a saying.."I don't care, don't tell me how much money you make...tell me...how much money you save!

That is why Gagner is sitting, it's not just about your offense....what are you doing when you don't have the puck?

Play the game the right way and you get rewarded with being in the line up.

Laughton is doing just that..he's showing that he "Wants" to be in the line up, so does Umby. And Luke showed it too.

Some interesting comments......take with a grain of salt remembering who they come from....

8. Which Flyer is most likely to be traded by the deadline?

Panotch: Read. -Notice he doesn't even add any comments as to why...so i say he is just pulling this out his ass. Read has a good contract on top of speed versatility and plays smart and good chemistry with several players so no way i trade him unless it's part of a deal for a stud LW for the top line.

Dougherty: I'm going to go with Luke Schenn. He's not as bad as people make him out to be and he's in his final year of his contract at an affordable cap hit. In the right situation, he can be an effective D-man. That situation is a team with a formidable top-four, where he can play in the final pair. He'll get moved at the deadline. Teams need defense, and he can help someone.- i could see this. The more and better his play the more the return.

Riday: I can see a team selling high on Streit at the trade deadline. He’s still an extremely valuable defenseman on the PP, can skate with the puck, has tremendous vision and comes with a very manageable $5.25 million cap hit for the next two seasons. He’d be a great addition to a contender looking to make a deep playoff run. Braydon Coburn was worth a first-rounder last year. If Hextall can swing a similar trade involving Streit, expect him to jump on the opportunity to bring more assets to the organization.- i could see this i think Ghost can spell Streit if need be at a price tag of about 4mill cheaper

spell him, yes, but not replace league-leading PP production or 10th in the league overall point production.  streit is one of those that makes it too bad the flyers are still a few years away from really being "there".  he would be a great piece to the puzzle as a 2/3 guy on a well built team.  the flyers are not that yet, so trading high is probably a good thing, but, well, it's too bad.

I agree he will be a good piece to a team with plans on a deep playoff run. Depending on how they look depends on if they deal him. They could just do it at the draft.
