Big, big win for many reasons...

1--Wild did NOT waste a Vezina quality effort by Devan Dubnyk

2--It's a divisional rival...and one that looks to grab a playoff spot FROM the Wild.

3--The Wild for the most part, played a good aggressive game against a faster club...and it worked!

4--It's the first game of a back to back with travel.... they have the equally fast Lightning waiting for them back home!

Yeah, amazing this sudden level of play by Dubnyk, hopefully it lasts. Unfortunately it hides the fact that rest of the team isn't up to his level. Plus we need good games from our backup goalies unless BB/Dubnyk wants to run him/himself to ground (yet again).

Here's where Lemaire's 1-2-2 NZT would be a great strategy.

1st Period vs Dallas - this is exactly what the Wild were doing.  When the Dallas defenseman had uncontested control of the puck and space the F1 Wild forechecker didn't forecheck, he set up middle of ice near the Blue Line and waited.    Several times this was very obvious.  In their own zone Wild players stuck to their man, keeping between him and Doobie.  When the puck was thrown on/at net the Wild players collapsed and cleared the puck.   Classic Lemaire D.

Referencing Mikko and the PP - Wild's first PP, Mikko's faceoff win was huge.  Instead of the chitshow trying to get the puck back into the O zone when cleared, the Wild was able to get set up right away.

Matt Read was noticeably good, too, IMO.   I'd keep him in the line up over Ted Brown's kid or slow boat Hendricks

A zero-zero tie on the road after the 1st.    Road team will take that...

I liked Read's anticipation without the puck.  Good speed and quickness.  Agree he is a solid improvement on what Brown has shown so far.

And the first was a great road period.  And the third was excellent for the Wild no matter where it would have been played.  Clogged up neutral ice perfectly.  But the key IMO, was the aggressiveness off the turnovers created.   Attacked rather than settle for the old "play for a tie on the road to guarantee a point" strategy.

Just finished watching 2nd period.    DOOOOOBIE!!!   Doobie really saved the day there last few minutes of the period on the PK.  Several brilliant Saves.  Not those kind of shots where the goalie gets hit by the puck, Doobie was making great Saves!

Dallas played better the 2nd Period but the shot totals are misleading IMO.  The Wild were getting some chances.   Most of the early Dallas shots were long range, easy pad Saves.  I haven't complained about it this year,  but IMO the zebras have done a terrible job the past several games.  It's about time there was an Interference call drawn by Parise.  No player in the league gets held and hooked and interfered with as much as Parise.  Is there a clause in the Rule Book that says Parise is an exception?  It's OK to bearhug or hook him when he's in the Offensive zone?    And IF you're going to call BS ticky tack "slashes" call them against BOTH teams!

Zero-Zero going into the 3rd Period in Dallas.  IMO take that 10 out of 10 times.   Wild goes back to old school Lemaire Defense First, Second, and Third priority and this team could win a lot of games. I'd much rather see 2-1 Victories than 4-1 or 5-2 Defeats!

Clearly the key to the Wild's offense is active defenseman IMO.   Give Dumba, Spurgie, and Suter the Green Light and trust that they'll pick the right times to go for it..

IMO clear that Read on RW with Big E. and Zooker is an improvement over Greenway, too    Let Greenway continue to learn the game on the 3rd Line with Coyle.
