To be honest Gus made some bone head mistakes in the last two games but he is young and learning. So sitting him down is fine. Mezz and gill should get playing time to stay fresh and to spell a relief for the other dmen like kimmo and so forth. It's a long season and if you can rest people with nagging injuries why not? In the playoffs it will be a needed asset to have extra dmen and dmen up to speed. It's an added luxury to have depth at the blue line.

I for one totally disagree with your post. Coots was the best player available. He should have dropped into the top 3 . Hamilton is a franchise dman? Hardly. He could turn out to be a pikinen or be a top 2 in the league. Picking dmen are very risky. Forwards not so much. You wanna trade harts? No thx. Then we only have simmer as a power forward. Besides if we get a first for harts it would be towards the end if the 1st round and there are no replacements for him that late in the draft. Emminger was a dman that has nhl expierence. I see that move. It didn't turn out well. Every trade somebody wins and loses. Hell there was nobody on this board that would have traded coots in his first year right? With harts and vinny coming back this will be a different team. And to be honest I'm more for trading kimmo instead if mez at this point. He really lost a step. It wasn't just the drinking and banging everything that moved that got Richards traded guys. I love Richards and when I think of him as a flyer I always remember the shorty against Montreal. However, when your using pain meds like a pez dispenser it's a problem. He got traded and got a wake up call. It helped Richards career which homer wanted. Nobody was more upset about the trade then him. So snider forced the move based on what the team knew.

Most of the high priced vets will be traded closer to deadline because of cap hit and to get best value for our player. I advise for everyone to hope that no younger player is traded. It's time for a rebuild. Stay young and go younger. I don't think we are to far from turning this team around. Yah no vanek please. However, I will say this...ntc are not wanted by players because they only want to stay on whatever team they play for. They are for the players piece of mind. They know they won't come walking into the rink and the gm says hey you've been traded. It's for them to get asked first so they have time to prep and move on. Yes some players won't lift their ntc. Harts isn't bad at all and for his contract he took a discount to stay here compared to other player contracts. Lose him and all we have that has any net presence is simmer. Harts can score, hit, and stand up for his teamates. Believe it or not that's a hard thing to find these days in the nhl that teams are willing to trade.

How I see it is the team isn't that far off from beginning a tear of winning hockey. An emotionaly charged game against the pens should be the beginning. The one thing that's hard to fix goaltending and that's not the problem this year. Confidence is needed badly on this team and I think it's only a heart beat away. Any knee jerk trade will only hurt this team more. Maybe a mezz and Laughton / cousins trade for a sniper like nail. Is that enough to get him? Maybe. His trade value isn't very high right now. Tons of potential but nhl teams shy away from Russian head cases most times. Bottom line this team has the talent, heart, and leadership to prevale. The one thing I don't like is naming g captain. I'm going to get slaughtered for this but they should give the c to vinny or harts. Maybe even talbot. Kimmo is almost done career wise so no to him.

Anybody watching this team every game can see they are playing better. More importantly there d zone coverage is much improved with the forwards coming down further and the center is swinging low to out number below the circles. Trade wise I don't really see a need. Mcginn is playing well enough to earn top nine minutes when harts and vinny return. Making forth line talbot, hall, and rinaldo. Good combo. However, schenn is much more at home at the center spot and seems to be finally coming into his own. I think that, and I never even dreamed it, coots can be trade bait. I think we can get something of value with a coots, mezz, Laughton type deal. Or maybe cousins. I don't condone trading youth under any circumstances but we are log jammed at center for a long time. Both cousins and Laughton are not forth line players. So I'm not sure what that group would get in return meaning forward or dman. For once, and I'm trying to pinch myself, goaltending seems fine.

I wouldn't trade simmonds for anything. We wouldn't survive against Boston in a playoff series. Only power forward would be harts. No thx. Stick with what we got. If we suck for another year so be it. Stay young and get young talent and keep our good players. Coots I'm not sure I wanna give up on right now. But I think schenn would be much better at center then wing. So maybe coots and a pick for nail. Swing a dman for something else. But raffi looked good so far so I'm not to sure what I move a dman for at this point.

I have no problem with what he did. He responded to what happened to kimmo. Wrong time? Maybe. But he was standing up for his team mate. That's the first time so far I saw a player going out of his way to make a point to the other team. I like it. Just wrong timing. If you noticed the team from there went after players who took liberties there after.

I think kimmo has looked horrible all season. Especially on the pp. how many breakaways have teams have with him miss handling the puck.

I never thought that g was worth that kind of money. Is he a good player? Yes. I do think giving him the c was a mistake.

Said about a year ago ..... Lottery team for two years and gather our young talent and be a playoff team in the third year. Now I know we screwed that up last year by winning meaningless games at the end to ruin our lottery pick but maybe this is the year?

I just don't think they have the players needed to do lavys system, especially on d and in goal.
