  1. https://hockeyanswered.com/what-percentage-of-nhl-draft-picks-make-it-to-the-nhl/ I haven't crunched the numbers, but this says 94% of 1st round picks and 70% of second round picks manage to play at least 1 game. That's higher than I thought, and someone else can do the actual math. I'm not the one that penciled them in as our #1, #2, and #3 defensemen.
  2. Just on percentages, I assume at least one of those four, if not two, never play significant minutes in the NHL.
  3. Um, he's dead. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Michkov pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
  4. Why worry about any of this when Michkov isn't going to come over for three years? If he's done with his KHL deal and still not coming over, then we can start to worry.
  5. This didn't happen anywhere except in Clarke's mind.
  6. This is the best I've felt about the direction of the team in years too. This is a low bar. I think this season is going to be interesting, but it's not going to be good. That's not how rebuilds work. You don't turn it around in one year by trading 2-3 players - that is how the old Flyers thought. I suspect Briere will take a wait and see approach to this season. If the team is severely undermanned (I don't see any way they aren't), I think they will try to move TK and/or Hart at the deadline. This would be smart, bolster the farm system, and put the franchise on a timeline that makes sense. If this team is a contender in 5 years, it will mostly be because Gauthier and Michkov (and anyone else they draft this year or next) are stars. I still think the core of this team when it is good is mostly not yet on the current team. It won't be TK and Hart leading the way then (certainly not from a statistical standpoint).
  7. He played minimal minutes in the third game. This is much ado about nothing. They are a deep team and they are probably making the highly touted kid earn his minutes instead of being given everything on a platter. If it were the Flyers, they would have made him Captain at 18.
  8. "Sucking too much" is a non-issue. You can't goldilocks a rebuild. All you can do is acquire as many assets and as much talent as you can on a roughly equivalent timeline. You're not guaranteed anything after that.
  9. I think his head went back and to the left. Back and to the left.
  10. Well, if the IIHF says the KHL has to honor the NHL's contract, then the same would be true with the Flyer's honoring Michkov's three year contract.
  11. Probably also means Michkov isn’t come over for three years, which is fine by me.
  12. The Flyers and Canes probably had a handshake deal in place that this trade would happen if the Flyers bought out DeAngelo and they were just waiting a bit so the league didn't get upset.
  13. Hayes was vastly overrated in NY. It says something that the Rangers chose to keep Kreider for the rebuild and not Hayes even though the former was older and they have very similar stats.
  14. I think we need to hope Couts' IQ can make up for losing a gear. He was my favorite Flyer since his rookie year. I just worry he doesn't actually have any gears to lose
  15. Well, not saying I can see the future, but I wanted to trade him in the offseason or at the deadline the year before he was going to be UFA instead of resigning him. I said so, many times. It sure would be nice now to have an extra 1st, 3rd, and prospect in the pipeline. The idea that Couts will make it to the end of his contract without being bought out or traded with salary retention is crazy.
  16. The one where he undresses two defenseman in a ton of traffic got me hot.
  17. Someone should have caused Scott to have an accident. Just kidding, but if anyone is offering even in the same universe as what has been reported, they should sell high.
  18. It was more than a decade ago now and for the Flyers' there hasn't been much to compare it to. It was exciting not because the hockey was good, but because the goal tending (on both sides) was terrible. Next you'll be talking about "the shift". Yawn. Sorry, bread and circuses don't do it for me.
  19. You'll forgive me if I don't believe the word of Clarke, after the fact, that he would have chosen a defenseman over the big Western Canadian Center. Hextall was right to want to end it. That "identity" is what has been holding back the team for the last 20 years. The idea that the Flyers reload instead of rebuild. Vengeance Now. Just absolute marketing with nothing behind it. When the Tampa Bay Lightning have more Cups in their short history than you do, maybe it's time to reexamine that identity and get a new one.
  20. I don’t see those 8 guys collectively getting 200 goals, which averages out to 25 per player. The only ones I see hitting that mark are Konecny, Tippett, and maybe Farabee. If you get 20 from Couturier or Atkinson you pop the champagne.
  21. The time won't be right for another two years, if then. Gauthier and Michkov should both be on the team and contributing before they start thinking about spending big.
  22. Lol, keep trying, you might figure out what I meant. Then again, you might not.
  23. Blocking the kids? Why don’t we start with having the kids do something in the AHL before we hand them jobs? Like make a playoff run at least. Also, I’m starting to feel like Briere might be doing a quiet tank.
  24. Starting to look like Briere is thinking long term, which is all I can really ask for (or at least 3 years down the road instead of 3 months).
