  1. A Stanley Cup is the only thing that can make up for this year. I don't see them pulling an LA Kings type run. As much as it pains me to say it, I hope to see them miss the playoffs and finish as low as possible.
  2. I am not a Homer hater, but I think if anyone needs to be looked at for dismissal, it is him. We have changed coaches so many times over the years. Each coach ran the team with a different philosophy and each coach was unsuccessful in winning a Cup. At some point (I guess it takes 35+ years) you have to hold front office mentality responsible!!!! As fans, we appreciate their passion and desire to win, but their trigger happy response to trade away young kids and draft picks for big name, older, expensive players has not gotten this team a Cup. These big name players should be cornerstones to help solidify a young, talented core. Instead, they always try to build the team with these types of players. I don't even know if you can blame Homer completely, because he is probably just being directed by Snider. Not sure how Homer would be if he had autonomy. The real question is, would the next GM have the ability to run the team without Snider in his ear? I am also far from a Snider hater, because he has such a desire to win and he thinks he is doing the right thing, but the best thing for this team would be for him to stay out of the team building and worry about writing the checks (Isn't that Comcast anyway?)
  3. Yep, send Coots on the first bus out of town to Calgary for Iggy!!!! We can still make the playoffs with a few extra goals in this line up. Coots is not getting the job done...he is obviously a bust! We may not get past the 1st round, but we will have made the right move to get us there! Who cares if Iggy won't be here for the long haul? We will always have that 1st round of the 2012-1013 season to remember!
  4. Come on guys....we all know that Bob's great play is a product of the juggernaut team that plays in front of him! Those Columbus Blue Jackets are one of the.......oh wait......
  5. I'm no fan of Bryz, but why should these guys get so disheartened by a dose of reality? Did he say anything that they are not already thinking? Probably not. Who cares if he said it publicly? It's not like he said they all suck and I'm the only reason we are not in dead last.
  6. If someone thinks they need a good vet d-man to put them over the top, they will make the move. We have seen it too often in Philly, and it happens in other places too. Not saying he will be easy to move, especially at that obnoxious cap hit, but it would not totally shock me either. Desperate GM's make interesting moves at the deadline.
  7. This team has to be patient with their core, young players. I know there is a contingent on this board that just want to completely start over and get rid of everyone, which IMO would be ridiculous. Even though the team is not playing well right now, they have a lot of good pieces in place. The best pieces are obviously up on the forwards. The current group of defensemen is obviously not getting it done. They should be making any move possible at the deadline to shed excess salary to contending teams who are desperate for what they consider that last piece of the puzzle to put them over the top. I know some think that Briere and Kimmo are un-tradable, but it is not unheard of for GM's to overpay (Money and players) at the deadline for instant gratification. If they think that Briere is what will put them over the top, and his past playoff performances should make him that kind of player, they might be able to get something of value for him. Kimmo is old, but again, GMs make interesting decisions when they feel they need just one piece to get there (We should know!). Not sure who is available out there, but hopefully they can make some deadline deals for some defensive help for next year. This team can't panic and start trading away the young kids. Is Coots having a bad year, absolutely. Does that mean he is a bust who won't pan out? No one can say, but it is not uncommon for a good rookie year to be followed up by a bad 2nd year. They would be dumb to give up on their young kids unless the deal was too good to pass up. This team stays in neutral all the time because they give up on their young players.
  8. Exactly right MD. This Cup drought has nothing to do with lack of trying by ownership. They just don't know how to get it done anymore. So frustrating, but that is the reason people stay loyal.
  9. I was never on the trade Briere train, but at this point, I'm ready to see what he might be worth at the trade deadline. Bottom line is this team should be a seller at the deadline and I agree with your list except for Hartnell. I don't want to see Briere go because of a lack of effort or heart. I just think the guy has lost a step and while he is a clutch playoff performer, what good is that if you don't make the playoffs? I have to think his past playoff performances will yield some value to a team looking to make a run. And Kimmo should yield similar value to a team looking for a good vet d man to make a run. And by all means, buy out Bryz! I appreciate his effort and his desire to succeed, but he is not th shut down goalie that they paid for. He rarely steals games, and this team needs a guy who can steal a game now and then. Maybe if the system was right, he would do better here, but they should not build a team around him. Wouldn't it be nice if just once in this century that they could draft a good goalie AND stick with him until he is ready to take the reins instead of trading him away for the flavor of the month?
  10. I just love watching the Flyers go into Consol time and again and completely frustrate Malkinberry and Neal into taking bad penalties! Nothing gave me more joy tonight then to watch Jake shock the ****tsburg fans while they were still celebrating the tying goal! Fun game all around except when they tried to hand the Pens the game with those careless penalties at the end!
  11. ANOTHER WIN AT CONSOL ENERGY CENTER...WE WELCOME YOU!
  12. Fire Lavy so that we can have yet another coach on the chopping block 3 years after he starts? No thanks! You can only blame it on the coach so many times from 1975 until now. Eventually, the team philosophy has to take some of the blame. I'm all about "Flyers hockey" as much as the next guy, but if that style of hockey doesn't win Cups, then it needs to be adjusted. The front office needs to held just as accountable as the coach, if not more so at this point.
  13. I do not want to see this team trade awy their young talent anymore. We draft guys that look like they are going to be good and we end up trading them for the big name out there. They have not won a Cup in 35 years and too often during that time, they have traded away young players for instant gratification. Look at the 80's Flyers. They groomed a young group of players into a team that almost knocked off one of the best teams in NHL history. Not that every player on that Flyers team was home grown, but they did not trade eveyone away for the big name on the market at the time. They stuck with their young core and coached the talent that they had. No cups from that team, but had Pelle not died, it could have been a different story. I'm not saying I am opposed to any trades, but can we please hold onto some of our young kids that are supposed to be the future of this team and are currently chipping in now. I like to see Schenn, Coots, Read with this team for longer then a year.
  14. I'll tail you incase you get a flat. Gotta have back up plan!
  15. "Here's hoping Sean Couturier hasn't been reading the overdose of praise Flyer fans have been heaping on him since he went toe to toe with Malkinstein. Don't get me wrong, I love the kids game. But Flyer fans have become as bad as anyone at overvalueing their players. The sky may be the limit for Mr. Shutdown, but he's still here on earth for now." Thanks for bringing everyone down Buzz Killington! Just playng with you of course.
  16. This was some fantastic news to wake up to this morning! Am I going to boycott going to games? Hell no! Will I consider buying any merchandise, with the exception of Flyers Stanley Cup Champion merchandise (God willing!)? Not a chance! Unfortunately with this compressed schedule and this being a very busy time at work for me, and with my 1 and a half year old son hitting the terrible twos early and driving my wife insane, I probably will have to miss a handful of games, but it wont be by choice. I won't deprive myself of live hockey any further. Besides, I already paid for my tickets for the year, so it's not like I can hurt them financially. Hockey is back baby! LETS GO FLYERS!!!! Rumor is that the Flyers and Pens will start the season off at WFC on the 19th!
  17. I was just about to say...April Fools day is a long way off, so I hope you're kidding!!! I actually have tried watching the Sixers here and there but it doesn't stay on for long. I just don't enjoy the sport that much.
  18. I'll be back without question. I look forward to hockey season every year and this lockout sucks! When it comes back, I'm not going to lock myself out. What can I say, Flyers hockey is my weakness!
  19. I don't think any of us so called "haters" will hate Bryz if he gets his act together and leads the Flyers to the promised land, like he was brought in to do. He came in with high expectations and he fell far short of those expectations. Why is it so hard to understand that people got frustrated with him? On top of the poor play, he was making off the wall comments that obviously didn't sit well with his team mates, as well as the fans. In the end, the fact that he was upsetting the rest of the team enough for them to have a private meeting with him is more then enough validation that me and the other "haters" were not blindly hating on the guy. I truely believe he is going to find his game and be better then last year, I mean he can't get much worse. I think he is a better goalie then he showed us last year, but I'm certainly not looking at it as a guarenteed outcome. When a player stinks on a consistent basis, I boo and express my frustration. If that makes me a hater, so be it.
  20. So the only area they Flyers would have trouble with is the playing time. Someone would have to go in order for them to bring him in and Carle would be the only candidate unless a trade was made. Don't see them letting Carle walk for Shultz to get playing time. Shame though, I wish the timing would work out better where he would be an easy guy to target.
  21. The Schenn mean streak is nice to have. I was not all that impressed with Braydon until I saw that mean streak come out (The Crosby incident comes to mind the most!). He actually seemed to play better overall once he started getting nasty out there. He throws some big hits for a forward, so I do look forward to getting that same nastiness on our blue line. Will be nice to have a healthy Grossman and Mez to throw some big hits as well. Maybe our blue line will be scary to cross this year. Ah, McCrimmonesque would be so nice to see! I hope it turns out that way!!!!
  22. It is a touchy situation for sure in that he has no NHL experience. I just see him as a cheaper route to potentially bolster our D and to get young fast. If they re-sign Carle, I don't see them making a play for Shutlz. Now that they brought in Schenn, I really don't see them making any moves for any more D-men anyway. I hate when players are labeled as "Can't Miss" prospects because of the pressure it puts on them but it also makes then so tempting to target!
  23. @jammer2 Ok, sometimes these guys all mesh together and I can't remember what I like or dislike about certain players around the league, so thanks for verifying. Thats a concern for sure. One of the worst feelings is seeing one of your slow defenders backing into the D zone while a speedy forward is revving it up down the boards. Hopefully Schenn won't be a pylon and can use his strength to knock the forward off the puck before he can get by. Again, this was not the defenseman I envisioned, but I always give a player a chance to prove me wrong.
