And for the record I am totally fine holding onto Ivan removing all the trash they can from the roster ans holding onto the #7 pick and taking the BPA there, unless it is Michkov - and then I take the next best player and go into next year and see where the the chips fall.

And when it comes to Michkov if Danny feels like he is worth the risk then too I will support the move and have faith he knows what he is doing. I won't be in the streets with the pitch fork, tar and feathers.

Because if they were to hit on Michkov it could be a steal and they would have another RW to throw on the pile.

Which would give them time to move one or two of the 700 RWs they currently have out for picks/prospects for other holes maybe.

My 2 cents...

Like everyone I’d say yes to the trade (though no one is trading a top 4 pick in this draft for Provorov). But I would say no to the Flyers needing a “top rated forward” because I like the forward group now with or without Couturier and/or Atkinson coming back.

I respectfully disagree.  The Flyers have no forwards who can be that go to guy when you need it most.  TK ....let him do again.  He had a nice break out year but he needs to do it again.  TIppett is not there yet.  Brink has yet to play a full NHL season.  Farabee has yet to put together a full season.

A player like Carlsson becomes the Flyers immediate top prospect. There isn’t any doubt that Carlsson is going to be an impactful player in the NHL one day. Whether it’s at centre or on the wing remains to be seen. The combination of his high-end skill, hockey IQ and two-way abilities in all three zones will have teams line up for his services. He can potentially be an all-situations kind of player– effective at five-on-five, a power play specialist– he can do it all and would still be able to put up strong offensive numbers. The fact the he continues to thrive against men as a teenager shows that his ceiling is high.

Benson would also become the Flyers immediate top prospect.  Benson’s floor is a top-six forward. He has the potential to be an elite forward with solid two-way tendencies who scores at a point-per-game pace.

Will Smith would also be the immediate top prospect if he goes to the Flyers.  Smith has the potential to be a top line center with a great two-way game and he’s a pretty safe bet in my mind to become at least an excellent second line center. He will control an NHL powerplay from the flank both as a finisher and a distributor, and could even turn into a guy you want on your penalty kill as well. Smith has 90+ point potential and his ability to pull off the absurd things he does at such a high speed gives me hope that he’ll be able to execute similar moves in the NHL someday.

I won't touch Michkov's potential as most on here don't want him because of his Russian nationality and commitment to the KHL.

These players are head and shoulders above Frost / Brink / Farabee.  You want to build this team to score in today's  NHL.  You may like the the top forward group.  I don't.  If available to the Flyers to draft I would take anyone of the above players mentioned in a heartbeat.

One does not simply pass on these types of players because "I like our forward group."

Now do I think the Flyers are going to draft one of the above 4, probably not.  However, if Briere finds a taker and can move up to #4, depending on who he is moving, I am all ears at this point.

I wonder if they ended up with him would the Flyers put a request to the BC coaching staff and see if they could put Cutter back at LW to be paid with Smith for a glimpse into the future to build chemistry or would they just let the staff do what they do and worry about that when they both get to Philly.

Or maybe they would prefer to have them both penciled into future center spots in Philly?

Any way I know putting the cart way before the horse and all but just thinking ahead on this rebuild...

Everyone is available.

Not for a price you would want to pay. Sabres are very high on Peterka (and Quinn) and are not looking to trade any of their young players/prospects. Mittlestadt is a maybe since they have young centers coming and he's heading to his next contract but he's only a maybe.

Sabres have definitely shifted to the build from within model, perhaps too far, as they have a few holes to fill and are maybe prepared to wait longer than their fans would like.

Provorov and Frost(sign and trade), #7 for #4?

I think something like that could work.

Actually, I think something like that could maybe be worked into a trade with Columbus for #3. Throw in Hayes with salary retention ?

I think I would try pretty hard to get Carlsson.

I've been all around the block with Michkov. I don't know if geo-politically he's feasible anymore. He would be top 3 talent if he were from Finland.

So, getting him at 7 would be a steal if everything worked out, but right now, that's not feeling like a possibility unless an Ovechkin type shows up for Philly and that doesn't seem realistic.

I'm sure Kevin Hayes can't wait to play in Columbus.

#12teamNTC

I think Hayes is willing to leave, I think he will make it as difficult as possible to do so.

This is the opposite of what the Flyers should do.  They have few assets already (down picks, prospects, and cap space), and we're going to put all our eggs in one basket to trade up 3 spots?  We should be trading folks like Provorov for multple picks and prospects.

You're afraid to go all in on Michkov because of the chance he might not come over, but you're quite willing to go all in moving a handful of the few assets we have for one prospect.  That seems incredibly inconsistent and at cross purposes.

Like I've said, I've been all around the neighborhood on Michkov.

Best prospect since Ovechkin they say.

Of course any of these picks could Patrick® (I "verbed" his name to mean: To not live up to draft position nor expectations) In Michkov's case he's got the added spector of Vladimir Putin wanting him around to play shimmy in the Kremlin parking lot.  Makes that particular magic bean, more of a risk, I know you can see that.

A lot of this is speculation. I would be satisfied if the Flyers pick a very good player at 7 and do what you suggest with Provorov,

I think I've said maybe he gets a late round 1st and a POW bottom six guy to make the money work, or the Flyers eat a bad contract for a season. 2 first picks in this draft would be excellent, makes the frittered away 2nd rounder less harmful.

There are plenty of "guys" in this system, there aren't "THE GUYS" so I'm not of the opinion the Flyers need 8 picks in rounds 2 through 5.

There are a **** pile of those guys around. What the team needs is top of the line up guys. Less likely to find that guy at #7. But maybe at #3 or #4.

Two candidates (one the Blues i heard about in a rumor) the other Arizona both need a quick up grade on their bluelines.

Blues #10 and the Yotes #12.

Ivan could help either one.

With the Blues you might have to take Robert Bortuzzo back (only 925K) to help the Yotes don't need cap help.

Those two are good possibilities but Danny may want to hang onto Ivan for their rebuild but he also has space needed.

As of now they need space for Zamula, Attard and Ginning who are all reported to be ready for NHL duty.

So that is two lefties and a righty Zaumla isn't waiver exempt so i would hate to lose him for nothing.

You could always hold onto Ivan and revisit it all at the trade deadline but another bad season from Ivan could tank his stock even further....but there is a chance he figures it out with some of this dead weight removed and some better stability on the backend ie a solid partner.

I am willing to do whatever it takes to make this club better.

TK ....let him do again.  He had a nice break out year but he needs to do it again.

His "nice break out year" was 61 points tied for 40th in the league, 91 players in the league had more points than he did.

That's a complimentary player, not a play driver.

To think that this squad doesn't need elite-level talent is to consider the past 10 years a success.

I was basing my comment on the fact he had 61 PTs in 60 games. A point a game pace. He missed 20+ games due to injury.  Had he played the whole season he "could" have reached 80+ points ( A point a game pace) which would have been a career high for TK.

I know DobberHockey likes to use the 400 game threshold when determining how a young player might develop.  TK has 488 career games.  That is why I made the comment I did.

However ... you are not wrong and I agree.

Well, I am wrong because I forgot his missed games. :hocky:

And if he had a legit center he might be even more impactful.

But I still see him as a complimentary player, doubly so because teams who's best player is a winger typically don't consistently perform well.

And I quite like Konecny.

Good post! I’d only say the kind of evaluation and conclusion you’re drawing from it don’t apply to the Flyers or any team who are expressly rebuilding. Yes of course they all have to prove they can produce, or in Tippett and TK’s cases produce consistently. But that’s what the next few seasons should (will) be all about. That’s my hope anyway, and it’s why I reacted so negatively to trade scenarios involving Matthews or any other “superstar.”

Let’s see what we’ve got in our forward group first, where they fall in a rebuild. Top 6? Bottom 9 etc. They’ll be plenty of time to add a game-breaker once the roster is pruned of the “passengers” and the anchors. That pruning is in my mind Job One this summer. That and the draft should be Briere’s priority.

At 26 going on 27 maybe now would be the right time to move him for a very good return and getting younger while free up a RW spot...Blues have been in the whispers.

He'd be a huge upgrade over Kasperi Kapanen on the 2nd bumping him down.

You'd still have this at RW.

Tippett

Foerster

Atkinson

Allison

Brink

It all depends on if you want to rebuild or try and win games and make the playoff next year and go for it or tear it down build it back stronger...because they already lack scoring.

I  like TK too but i had seen them sniffing around Philly for help and his name and Ivan's name was mentioned....they have 3 first round picks....just saying.

It shall get interesting at the draft i think...and i could also see nothing happening besides purging the likes of Hayes and TDA.

I get your point and rereading your reply to my post about trading Provy and other for a chance to move up ... I think we crossed wires.  When I meant game breaker...I meant a top prospect who has all the making of a NHL Starr ... ie Bedard, Fantilli, etc ....

If by making a trade to acquire one of these young guns ... you take some serious evaluation of that trade propostion ....

I agree ... the Flyers are not in the position to acquire a Matthews type super start player.  I was bullish on DeBrincat but I get others's POV.   The Flyers MUST see what their current forward corps can do or not do.  With that I agree ....

Oh okay yeah I misunderstood but I got you now, yes I agree absolutely. The only drawback of course is that nobody is giving up their lucky break at getting CB or AF or Will Smith. I know there’s other good prospects but they all (best I can tell with a little research) are a notch or two down from those 3 (I don’t count Michkov because he’s stuck in Russia).

All in all I wouldn’t move heaven and earth to trade up. The Flyers will get a good player at #7 and if they get a little luck and handle him right he may become a solid contributor in a few years. I know drafting well is important but since we’re not getting a top 4 prospect this year I’m much more interested in what Briere does with the current roster, what I hope will be an extensive, multi-year pruning process.

Agree ... I seriously doubt the Flyers move up ...but Briere must do due justice ....it is nice to discuss though.

Oh for sure he's got to at least ask what it would take. I'd say don't even bother asking about Bedard or Fantilli but for the 3rd or 4th picks definitely make the call. But I'll be quite happy if the Flyers get Leonard. I've only seen him skate in a few games but I liked what I saw; sort of a poor-man's Will Smith. I guess they're both going to BC and I wonder if either are committed to a college degree or what.

I think the Sharks at 4 are going to be the team that determines what happens most likely at 7.

If they take Smith then i think Montreal will take Michkov and well then Arizona can spin it a few ways too.

No matter what they will have a few choices at 7 Danny better do his homework...

7 teams that stick out to me with multiple picks in the 1st round that the Flyers could work with on trades.

Blues

Jackets

Yotes

Wings

Sharks

Canadiens

Blackhawks

All possible trade partners if the Flyers seriously want to get younger and move some vet contracts out.

Now also their cap situations vary too so not sure if taking a contract back will have to happen to facilitate a trade or not will be considered but well i would have to think could happen to make the plan come together.

All i kow is i want the following gone the best way possible. Hayes, TDA and Risto.

Sure maybe/more likely all 3 don't take place this offseason but will be happy if the first two are gone and well Risto maybe they can revisit at the trade deadline or worse case next offseason.

But i have hope this is moving in the right direction for once in a long time.
