Nolan Patrick announced his retirement today from the NHL. He is 25.

He was the second pick in the draft behind Nico Hischier, the next three picks after Patrick were Heiskanen, Makar and Elias Peterson.  Patrick saw his career derailed by migraines.

  32 goals, 77 points in 222 games. That's it.

Nolan Patrick, the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NHL draft, appears to have ended his playing career at age 25.

Plagued by a migraine disorder, Patrick last appeared in a game with the Vegas Golden Knights in March 2022.

Reports of his retirement surfaced Tuesday after The Power Play, a hockey coaching and mentorship program, announced his employment as a skills specialist and video coach in an Instagram post.

The post referred to Patrick as a "retired pro with significant NHL experience."

The Philadelphia Flyers selected the Winnipeg native with the second pick in 2017 after he scored 102 points (41 goals, 61 assists) in 72 games for the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings in 2015-16.

Patrick played parts of three seasons with the Flyers and one with the Golden Knights, accumulating 77 points (32 goals, 45 assists) and 83 penalty minutes in 222 games.

So sad ..... oh what could have been.

His health is more important than hockey at this time .....

Oh how the Flyers might have looked different had the Flyers selected either one of Heiskanen / Makar / Pettersson (I would have taken anyone of the 3).

Of interesting note Tippett was drafted 10th overall by th Panthers (though many of us already knew that).

Flyers roster has 11 first round picks on it.

Not sure which team has the most.

But if Ellis could play that would give them 12.

The Flyers were well justified picking him 2nd overall. His projections and scout reports didn't lie.  But man.... I cringe every time thinking that we could have had Cale Makar or Elias Pettersson.

Crazy what damages concussions can made. You can either be ok 2 weeks later or have your career over. As sad as inevitable at that point.

That's because human brain is the least studied or understood part of human body. Like you said, the range of possible outcomes is just crazy.
