Hockey Junkie
http://www.therichest.com/sports/hockey-sports/top-10-nhl-teams-with-the-most-cap-room-for-2014-15/ Darcy did not screw up everything. Granted I wish he had left Vanek in town. But the return was good and we now sit in a very good position to build this team given those picks and a committed owner. You can all come after me and say what you wish, but the facts are clear. Notice Stafford is actually putting the puck in the net since his return? Maybe, just maybe, someone will want him. But right now big questions are Moulson, and some other guys that are good players and what to do with them. Of course the Ryan Miller question is the biggest right now. Irishjim
i hope your ready for 3-4 years of meh hockey. all those draft picks will help but there are no crosby, stamkos types in this draft. and even with all the picks you have don't expect many to make the top club, if they rush 19 year old kids to fast they will just ruin them. best thing would be to trade the millers/moulsons and such for the other teams blue chip prospects and not take some over paid 32 something 3rd line guy in return. i have said to you before all you need is to look at edmonton. It seems every year save 1 they have had at least a top 5 pick and they are not much better than your team now that is in tear down mode have fun and happy hockey
jammer2
@Hockey Junkie I have noticed Stafford's uptick in production. He's produced enough since coming back they very well could get a 2nd for him. He starting scoring at a good time for the Sabres. Turned him into a useful asset rather than a veteran stiff. flyercanuck
When you're easily the worst team in hockey you'd better have capspace. (I thought only Vader bragged about that) If they're smart, they'll have the most next year too, when McDavid comes up for draft. That's when you want to win the lottery, next year. flyercanuck
@Hockey Junkie Out of what situation...winning the lottery??? If you're going to suck, 2015 is the year to do it. It's going to take years for the Sabres to rebuild. All those picks aren't going to get you anywhere for the near future. You may as well go for the big prize, and that's McDavid. I'd trade Miller just to have a better chance of landing him.
jammer2
@flyercanuck Exactly, the more youth and minor leaguers the Sabres can inject into the line-up, the better the chances they suck when it really counts, in 2015. That means no getting Vanek back, trading Miller and anyone else that would help them win. If you're gonna suck, go all in and get the *real* prize. I'd trade Miller just to have a better chance of landing him.Do not agree. They have a handfull of players that are competitive. Have been blown out only one time. Once. At Colorado. Every other loss has pretty much been a one goal, and in many cases OT loss type. Ennis, Hodgeson, Ott are keepers for sure. It looks like Moulson and Stafford will be moved and they will likely trade some picks to ugrade faster. It can be done. It has been done and very often. This is a whirtwind season. They will not be this bad next year. They just fired Regier and after he made a couple of huge mistakes. He did do one thing right however. He left us with a ton of picks to rebuild with. You cannot say with any certainty that your Flyers will even make it to the finals again before we do. We are both welll behind doing that and you know it. You will have your own house cleaning to do and most likely with the GM like us. Sure you have played better. But if you want to win it all, I think you likely have to clean house first. Chicago did it. Took a while. Once they finally got Kane and the right coach. I am hopefull they keep Nolan on but this new management is a true mystery to me
flyercanuck
@Hockey Junkie If you want your team to rush back to mediocrity, have at 'er. If I was in your position I'd be praying they finished dead last in '15. McDavid will get your team on the road to the cup a lot faster than Ott/Hodgson and Ennis combined. jammer2
@Hockey Junkie That's just it, you don't have your Kane or Toews yet....it awaits you in the 2015 draft....lol.

blocker
I listened to part of last night's game. Buffalo kept puttting Leino on the ice during power-plays. He has 0, zero, nada, zilch goals in 38 games. If there's some clever tactic there, it's beyond me.

Ha ha...perhaps they hope he suddenly gets jump started, and somehow...someway somebody will want his useless ass!!! LOL! That slug should not even be in the NHL, much less an NHL power play. Un friggin real!!!

No, seriously.
Samifan
That slug should not even be in the NHL Leino or John Scott? Nevermind, its actually applicable to both!
jammer2
@Samifan Well, at least John Scott can knock the snot out of people, Leino is *totally* useless. If you put Martin Erat and Leino in a shoot-out, it might last forever!! I know Erat has no goals on the season, despite being in the Caps top 6 off and on....and I'm not sure, but I think Leino is goal-less as well. It's when you suck. As @flyercanuck said, you want to suck in 2015. You should listen to him. He is old and wise. OK - maybe just old but still. P.S. - Chicago didn't do it. Chicago kept going for it and going for it with such bad signings that they had no choice but to suck in 2006 and 2007 (Kane and Toews). A little luck in the lottery helped, too. jammer2
@B21 Of course, you can suck in the right year and still be screwed, ie Flyers/Kane/JVR.
