  1. Versteeg on that team, at half price, is a good move IMO. I think his issue is mental/motivational. Toews won't let him get away with that BS in Chicago.
  2. What if the "missing ingredient" was actually Downie, and his "skillset" all along? I can't believe I just typed that. If so, I'll take my crow with a side of cornbread, please.
  3. Here's why I don't want Miller for the USA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDO5WdO_RoE
  4. Yeah...I forgot...the "lost the room" problem. Hasn't every Flyers coach in 20 years(expect Stevens) lost the room? "sigh"
  5. IF, and I think it's a big IF, they even consider trading Giroux away, it better not be done by Homer, cause he's done in Philly, IMO. No more major moves by him. Let this thing run it's course, and if/when he's done, let the new GM(Hey Hexy) make his mark. Trading Giroux, then firing the GM, is just setting the next guy up to fail. Then again, Homer's moves the last few years have already done that.
  6. They had him, his name is Ken Hitchcock, and they fired him--and replaced him with a coach with no NHL head coaching experience. **EDIT** I just noticed that the last Flyers coach with a LOSING record when he was fired, was Terry Simpson, 20 years ago. That's a whole different topic for another thread, IMO.
  7. Not sure if it was mentioned, but McGinn was send back to the Adirondack.
  8. Cannot be recalled until his Junior team's season ends, or in an unusual "emergency" situation. Say, the Flyers have NO one in their entire organization that could play center, and no one in Adirondack to be called up....the league has to determine what is a justifiable emergency, IIRC. And welcome to the board!
  9. I think this is a pretty interesting read, given the topic at hand. http://www.hockeyforums.net/index.php/topic/49217-jvr-trade/?hl=%2Bjvr+%2Btrade
  10. Lavy is/was suing Bank of America(I think) for $3 million dollars. Story was reported towards the end of summer/beginning of hockey season. http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2013/10/07/a-bad-week-for-peter-laviolette-fired-from-the-flyers-in-a-tiff-with-bank-of-america/
  11. I think there's a bit of revisionist history going on here. The VAST majority of Flyers fans felt it was a fair deal when it was made. JVR was underwhelming here, and I don't think that's very debatable. He has played very well in Toronto. I've stated before that if he played this way for the Flyers, he would not have been traded. They traded an underperforming forward(at the time), for what they thought they needed, a physical defenseman. I see the point about the 5 year deal, but IMO, that 5 year deal is what made JVR trade-able. He was locked up-and had salary cap certainty for the obtaining team. I'd like to argue that Homer signed him with the sole intent of trading him, but that would indicate some type of plan. Which we all know is not the case.
  12. Carle filled his role here, and did what he was supposed to do, even though a lot of fans didn't like him. Coburn has done very little over the last 2 seasons. He's not able to play the role of shut-down Dman, he's not an offensive Dman, he's not a physical Dman, and he hasn't/isn't playing well. I was a defender of Carle until he walked out the door(not his fault). Dumb move on the Flyers part to let him leave, and I said it then. As of right now, I can't say the same of Coburn.
  13. Wouldn't playing 3rd line make him a top 9 forward?
  14. If this quote is accurate, I guess he didn't ask for a trade. :-) Sam Carchidi ‏@BroadStBull55mTalbot to Denver Post: "It's the first time I've ever been traded. So, I'm dealing with some of the shock of that,
  15. Agreed..they are playing well, on a great run with a new coach, and they trade the winger on their top line? Hmmmm............. **EDIT** That's not to say I like the trade for the Flyers; I just don't get my Colorado would mess with things now.
  16. WHAT THE ****!!!! SERIOUSLY!!! Please, just end this season, fire Holmgren and let's move on. It's beyond embarrassing at this point.
  17. The Flyers are 3-8, the Ducks are 10-3. The Ducks won a game last night that they should have lost. The Flyers lost a game that they should have won. Those facts are why the Flyers aren't a good team, and the Ducks are--right now. I think it's really that simple--at least at this point of the season.
  18. Some forward I can't remember and Danny Sryvet.
  19. You never mentioned AHL experience-so I figured we were talking NHL. My mistake. I stand by my point-the best line in the last game had Raffl on the top line. So why not start from there? Players and coaches all talk about how funny chemistry is to find-and that line had it going for a while. If they were scoring, I would never advocate it-but they aren't. So why not start with something that appeared to be working?
  20. I like McGinn, I also dont think he's half as skilled as Raffl and McGinn has experience? He's played 21 NHL games, it's not like he's a 10 year vet. Kid has 3 goals in 3 games. He also played top 6 minutes. The players who have "earned" a permananet roster spot, and "earned" the right to play on the top line have produced so well, that yeah, I guess it's dumb to suggest mixing things up. Let's keep all the line the same, and expect different results; and let's not move a kid up who should have been on the team all along--if Lavy had half a brain-- who's done what the coaches have asked so far, and has shown flashes of major league skill when playing WITH THE TOP LINE! I love how we all want players held accountable, and want them to work hard and produce. Here's a young kid who has worked hard, and is being rewarded with a chance to play with top players. And people are bitching about it. It can't work both ways.
  21. Raffl was their top forward the last game. At least he's working hard, which can not be said for the players that have been top 6 normally. I'd skate an Icegirl in the top 6 if she can win a puck battle and generate an offensive scoring chance.
  22. I wouldn't expect him to say anything less after 8 games. WTF is he supposed to say, "Yeah, we've had a really bad start, I'm pretty sure we'll miss the playoffs; the whole season is wasted??" Imagine the burning torches and pitchforks if he says THAT? I get why he said it, but at the same time; stop talking and start playing ALL OF THEM! What they do on the ice, will be louder than anything they say.
