  1. That was bad but also thought the "miraculous save" by Henrik in the Rangers-Bruins game was a goal
  2. Thats funny as when the Flyers went down in Buffalo I texted my GF that I want the lockout back. lol
  3. It is still early and he is learning a new system. He will be fine once he settles in. He will be a fan favorite once he gets comfortable and starts laying some bodies on the ice.
  4. I am a fan of Subban but there is no way I trade Couts for him. If I were Homer I might throw a feeler out there to see what it would take but guaranteed they say Schenn or Couts.
  5. This might help to get you a little more psyched about having another physical element on D to join Grossman - Schenn crushes Crosby - Brutal hit on Malkin
  6. I will agree it was a rarity but there were so many incidents of the Pens cheap shots that even the fans of other teams noticed. The two Neal cheap shots (I set the tone first shift and put Simmonds across from him), the bush league Crosby kicking the glove out of the way, the Crosby whining interview "I don't like them", Hartnell getting jumped, Malkins high elbows, Crosby hacking Giroux's wrists and the list goes on and on. I watched some You Tube clips from the series and wish the game was this Saturday!
  7. Actually they were. For once in what is likely the first time since we played the Red Army, the league and it;s fans ripped the Pens actions and backed the Flyers
  8. We truly are horrible. We, the fans who are like this is precisely the reason the assclown Bettman can lock out every couple years; because he knows we will come back. I have never denied it but it still pisses me off!
  9. Sad but true. The only reason I think there is a slight chance is that there are few (if any of teams) that could make that move both in salary, length of contract, and position. Luongo definitely needs out of BC but there are very limited options with the Flyers being one of them.
  10. I think that when healthy our defense will be more than OK. I think Schenn will be a very good acquisition for us. He was doing just fine in Toronto until they started trying to make him into something he isn't, a puck carrying guy. My concern for the Flyers D was always too many puck carryers and not enough bang back there. Adding Schenn to Gross gives us two thumpers who can help keep the porch clear. That alone should result in Bryz's GAA dropping as how many times were guys camped out and chopping away at loose pucks. My concern now is that we need to be a little more mobile back there as I am not sold on Coburn filling that role. I think we go with what we have (if healthy) and see how things shake out. We lose Kimo's contract after this season and could use that $6 million to acquire a top 4 guy who is mobile, can make good outlet passes and help on the power play.
  11. I have mixed emotions. I think a change of scenery would do wonders for Luongo. Their salaries (Bryz is only slightly higher) are similar as is the length of their contracts (Luongo - UFA 2022, Bryz - 2020). Bryz also has a lot less wear and tear on his body and has been playing. I can see Vancouver wanting to make the move as they pulled Luongo several times in the playoffs. There are few teams in which they could swap their goalie with that contract and get a goalie in return. To me that means Homer can try to get more from Vancouver. I think our defense if healthy is OK for our top 5. Kimo comes off the books after this season and we can use that $6 milliion to add a puck moving guy. To me I am still concerned with our depth at wing. If Vancouver were to make Zach Kassian and Luongo I would seriously consider it
  12. That would not be at all fair as than hockey would exlipse football in terms of revenue. Most people piss in the snow and write their name. Jon Sim can piss his name onto concrete.
  13. I think there will be a long lockout but not an entire season lost. I think there is just WAY too many differences in the revenue split to suit the owners. The owners and Bettman will state that the league revenue split will need to be more 50-50 like other major sports. The Players will counter (correctly) that hockey is unlike other major sports as there is not a major amount of TV revenue. I think in order for their to be an agreement the players will have to agree to a more even split of revenue; possibly as much as 53-47 in their behalf. But I firmly support the players. I pay to see the players play not Ed Snider. I pay for the jersey with a players name and not the owners. The owners got almost everything they wanted the last lockout with a salary cap and revenue sharing. They cost fans a season. Now they need to bend a little in negotiations. Personally if I were THE Hockey God for a Day I would do the following: 1) Fire Bettman My first task would be to fire Gary Bettman. Yes he brought the winter classic and grown some revenue but losing ESPN, some questionable expansion choices (granted owner assisted), three work stoppages, and rule changes far outweigh any good he has done. I would appoint a Commissioner who has a hockey background and someone both the players and owners would respect. Having a hockey guy as commissioner would hopefully help to expedite some of these labor issues. My choice would be someone like Wayne Gretzky who not only would have both the players and owners respect but the sports world. Gretzky is recognized world wide and would add some instant credibility to the league and increase it's exposure. My second choice would be Ken Dryden who not only is a legendary ex-player but someone with a law degree and has a sharp business acumen. 2) Contraction - there are some teams that will never be hockey markets and to continue to throw league money at these teams is wasting revenue. Phoenix is a prime example of the league throwing millions of dollars to keep the team afloat. The Players Union would likely fight this as there would be less jobs. Teams that I would consider would be Phoenix, One of the Florida Teams, possibly Nashville or Columbus. 3) Salary Cap - I would implement a revised salary cap that would allow the teams that generate more revenue to have more cap space. For example, I hate the revenue sharing and think it not fair to big market teams like the Flyers, Rangers, Leafs, Wings to have to support teams like Phoenix, Tampa, etc. To give those teams a slight advantage I would allow those teams to exceed the salary cap by the weighted revenue they generate. 4) Rule Changes There are two major areas that I would address with rule changes and they are as follows: a. Goalie Equipment - I would immediately reduce the size of goalie equipment so that the goalies are not looking like the Michelin Man. Look at photos or video of Dryden, Bernie, even Marty when he started his career and the difference is highly evident. Yes players are bigger nowadays but Boom Boom Geffrion and Al Iafrate still shot pucks the same 100 mph that Chara does, b. NO Instigator - The league has become less physical to me and players are taking more liberties then ever. I think that is due in large part to a commissioner like Bettman who never played the game and never understood the importance and role of fighting in the game. I am not expecting a return to the 70's or even the 80's but a return of players being able to police themselves and to hold others accountable. I know I am dreaming and some if not all of my suggestions are probably going to be a point of disagreement with other posters. Just the thought of having another hockey stoppage gets me disgusted and fed up.
  14. I actually think a lockout does help the Flyers too. I think most importantly it will allow some of the defensive corp to heal and make a trade more likely if a team has a pending UFA that it will not sign. I think the Predators will be screwed badly by a long lockout (good for them) mainly due to being locked into the Weber contract regardless of a season or not. As a die hard fan it just sickens me that yet again the game I love could be locked out/work stoppage (whatever you want to call it) for the third time under Gary Bettman.
  15. I picked Bryz and her is why. Pronger will be on LTIR and will not count against the Cap. I think if the Flyers move Danny Briere to play right wing with Claude Giroux he would score 40 goals. Even if he remains on the second line there are few better come playoff time. I only picked Bryz due to the cost and length of his contract. It would put the Flyers in an unenviable position of not having a real backup and playing uphill to acquire a starting goaltender as it surely would cost a lot.
  16. Hey Murray. I go to a lot of Royals games and love them. It is family friendly and great bargain as you can take a family of 4 affordably. Perhaps most important is that it exposes a lot of young kids to the game. My son started playing and it was great to see him understand what was happening on the ice and ask a lot of questions during the game. When the lockout happens (not if) I will be taking my son and his friends to plenty of Royals games this season! Edit: Where are you in the area? I am from scenic Spring City, home of the Pumptown Tavern. lol
  17. I am not at all encouraged by the preceedings thus far. My stance is that while no one is paying to see the owners but the players, the owners take the risk financially. While hockey cannot be compared to the other major sports where they have huge television contracts, the revenue split does need to be changed. I would do 55 - 45 in the players behalf which allows the owners to recoup some money and save face in the process. I would even go as low as 53 - 47 if it means starting the season on time. As far as the cap is concerned I hate it. I think the simple solution is to weight the cap by the revenue a team generates. For example if the Flyers generate 18% of the total league revenue then they should have cap amnesty up to 18%. If Toronto generates 20%, then they can spend 20% over the cap. That way the more successful teams helping to keep the smaller market teams afloat get to spend more. When the higher revenue teams get to spend more (in theory) they should be more competitive and successful which helps the leagues exposure.
  18. Thanks for posting. I love this kid. I love his attitude, his unselfishness and his all around game. I was shocked he fell in the draft and I expected him gone earlier. I honestly was totally hyped about the Flyers drafting Dougie Hamilton but when Couts fell I was psyched we took him. I think he will have a bigger role this season and I truly hope the Flyers would move Danny Briere to the top line to play Giroux's wing man so Couts could move up to 3rd line center and get more minutes.
  19. I agree Bert and I think Lavy would be smart to do that. He knows we can score with any team in the league but given our defensive shortcomings he is going to need to make some adjustments to his system to account for it. I can see some neutral zone traps at times but I think his biggest changes will be more defensive coverage from the forwards. I think the forwards will go deeper into the defensive zone and think coverage first versus risky chances.
  20. First and foremost I would not panic. Yes we lost Weber (I saw the offer for Sutter more to drive up the price). We lost Carle who despite his turnovers and being soft was an experienced vet and we lose Mez again. I still believe the defense is more solid to start this year than last year. Last year we had no physical presence on defense most of the season which impacted our goaltending more than people realize. We had no one to clear the porch and no one to make opposing forwards keep their head up in the nuetral zone and defensive zone. Starting the season with Schenn and a full season from Grossman will have a big impact as Bryz will see more shots clearly from the point and clear the porch and reduce rebound chances. Not to mention they will eat up a lot of minutes which will help Kimo. We also had a carousel of rookies and 6/7 guys playing quality minutes. The rookies will have more experience this season and I am pretty comfortable with Gus, Bourdon, and Manning filling in when needed. My plan would be to wait. We have cap space. We had a lot of talented young forwards who I don't want to lose. I would sit tight, evaluate what we have and make a decision at the trade deadline where we could get an impact player for a reduced cost.
  21. Awesome news!. When the trade was made for Richards I was more pumped for acquiring Simmonds as he was born to wear the O&B. I think long term it is undermarket price for a blossoming power forward who will only get better with time. He set a career high in goals because he saw more time including power play time and will only get better. Power guys like him who can score 30 goals, hit heavily, drop the mitts, and stick up for his mates are a rare commodity in the game today and for the price, I think it's a bargain.
  22. I agree about waiting. Homer is smart and making a deal when you're desperate is never a good thing as teams know they can hold up Homer. Wait until the deadline. If we are looking out of it, we have options. We can deal Kimo and his contract to a desperate team since his contract could come off the books at the end of the year. IF Manning or Gus or Luc develop ahead of schedule perhaps make a pitch for Getzlaff or Perry and try to Hartnell/Kimo the Ducks. With Weber and a healthy Mez our D would have been stacked. Acquiring Schenn will help alot and for the first time in a long time we do have some talented blueliners we can plug in. Best bet - wait until the deadline and assess the team at that point and deal from a possible position of strength versus dealing now out of weakness
  23. I think with the potential for a second lockout in 8 years people are starting to see Bettman's true colors. He does not give a damn about the fans and is the owner's boy. His job is to make the owners money and he could care less about the fans. The revenue ratio does need to be split more evenly but I think it should be in the players favor. The fans are paying to see Giroux, Briere and Schenn and not Mr Snider. Bettman and the owners need to realize this. I cannot stand him and have been calling for his head ever since the NBA reject has started to change the game we love. Some things like the Winter Classic have the majority have been about this assclown trying to put his own mark on a game he knew nothing about. I HATE the cap as it penalizes the succesful teams that help to keep the league afloat. I HATE the revenue sharing as it again penalizes the successful teams and allows DR, Frankenstein aka Bettman to put teams in non-hockey markets where the league continues to assist. Without a big TV contract the league needs contraction of some of it's weaker markets but Bettman's ego won't allow it. He would rather the league sink millions into Phoenix to keep it afloat. Most of all I hate Bettman's ego as contrary to what he believes, the game is bigger than he.
  24. I want nothing to do with J Bo at this point. When Calgary acquired him I thought a change of scenery might cause him to flourish but he didn't. At that price I want nothing to do with J Bo and be content to wait until the trade deadline to make a move for a defenseman.
  25. You can't compare the NFL to the NHL. They are in two totally different worlds as far as revenue are concerned. The NFL has billion dollar TV contracts which is distributed amongst the teams. The NHL plays for peanuts. The NFL sells itself where the NHL sells itself in die hard hockey markets This whole revenue sharing thing (along with the cap) is one of biggest gripes with Bettman. There is even a provision in which teams have to spend a certain amount of money to be eligible for revenue sharing. Nashville in the past was always one of the teams that spent just enough to be eligible for revenue sharing. NHL owners for the most part could care less about growing the sport. They want to make money and win championships for the most part. Remember during the lockout there was even some grumbling of the big market clubs doing their own thing. In football it works because the pie is so huge that there is plenty to go around for everyone. In hockey, the bigger market teams are penalized for their sucess by having to share the wealth with teams who do not have the same economic goals or invest in the team as they should. I know they have a vote but it has to kill Ed Snider and the owners of the Leafs, Rangers, Wings, etc, that part of the revenue they generate is going to support teams in Florida, Columbus, etc.
