The cornerstone of our franchise (Couturier) is making $8M+ per year for a lot more years and is already playing on the fourth line. There is no fifth line. Like the Leafs with Tavares, you can sort of do that if you also draft a bunch of super-talented offensive players, but the Flyers don't have a Matthews, Nylander, or Marner on the team. Maybe Michkov is a Matthews, that would be amazing, but that's not going to do it by itself without a lot more players around him. The more I think about it, the more I think signing Konecny and hoping to draft their way to contention with just their current picks is reliving the Hextall years over again.

Moving ahead with TK will mean we are stuck with him at some point as well.

This happens all the time with prospects, especially after the first round, which is why counting on more than 50% of your prospects to contribute is probably a recipe for disaster down the road. More prospects, especially high end ones, give you more shots at actual contributing NHL players.

People thinking long term were thinking “trade Couturier”. We didn’t, now he is no longer a tradable asset and the team hasn’t materially improved since 2021 (yes it feels better because they play hard, but I’m not sure their long term prospects are any better) because they kicked the can down the road. Now the Flyers have an opportunity to repeat the cycle or break it with Konecny. I think we need to trade him, unfortunately.

They are a likable team to watch.

Here to say I was on the trade Hart bandwagon. Oh well, another wasted asset. Since Konecny is a few months older than Matthews, this is why we should be trading Konecny. People getting duped by the relative success this year are going to look at next year's regression and wonder what happened. Keeping your eye on the prize is trading assets that won't be able to help when you want to be good for assets that will be able to help then.

Talk is cheap. The Flyers are the President's Trophy of talkers.

What's different? The team plays hard? Reasonable minds can differ on trading Konecny. I happen to believe the team is still woefully devoid of Stanley Cup talent and he is their biggest chip to trade. Not trading Seeler and Walker would be a fireable offense.

I can't wait for the Flyers to put all that valuable experience they gain in a first round loss this year into missing the playoffs next year.

Every player should try to get every cent they can. The owners certainly are. I mean the owners are the ones that insisted on a salary cap. We lost a season before the players accepted it. Now you want those same players to also cut the owners a deal and not take what they can get. Hell of world we are living in.

I am sure the playoffs would go differently. No need to sell high. We got them right where we want them.

If Konecny continues this production, his next contract is going to be 8 years long and at least $8M per year. The only question is whether the Flyers or another team give it to him.

No one was trading for this guy. We had to listen here for years how Andrew MacDonald was going to be traded and it never happened. This isn’t going to either.

Reason #1 not to do this.

Isn't that exactly what happened here? She reported it to police, who swept it under the rug. After the criminal justice system let her down, only then did she resort to the civil system.

Laughing about stories of sexual assault is a reason it doesn’t get reported. Boys will be boys, eh?

It took 4-5 years to correct it because those in charge had to be publicly embarrassed by leaks into taking the investigation seriously. Had that not happened, it never would have been done correctly. It would have been settled confidentially, with a payment of over $3M, in an effort to make the story go away.
