  1. article seems spot on. they're thriving on the enthusiasm of the young and new. 7 game series against Pitt or Bos.... oh dear, this group doesn't even have a fighting chance.
  2. and apparently this is a solid way of thinking about the draft. every one of these players is a crap shoot to make it in the nhl. you could draft a D man in the 250th overall and he'll end up being... well Kimmo Timonen. so... there's really no telling.. going for the best player available regardless of position seems to be a solid way to approach it.
  3. I think OP is correct. I just don't see them buying out Bryz this summer. They will give him one more year to prove himself... a full year. It's too much 'real' dollars for Snider to swallow and throw away for nothing. I just can't see them doing it until they have no other choice. Next summer's buyout deadline will be the time they either do it or we're totally stuck with him. And.. as Polaris has said... Bryz has actually been one of the Flyer's better players this year. That doesn't say much for the rest of the team because he def has NOT been a $5m+ goalie. He's had his moments of Bryziance, but he's also shown his below average side a bit too much and at all the wrong times.
  4. I just kinda meant that in the generic way of the fact that ALL teams will have cap problems. The cap inherently creates problems that every team has to deal with. I didn't mean that they specifically have any more problems than anyone else in the league. Flyers will surely have their share next year and I think I'd gladly take Pitt's particular set of cap problems over ours any day. The next few years are going to be rough ones for our Fly guys.
  5. *grunch* i think it's pretty obvious, or it should be, to even the most biased fans that Shero has GM'd circles around Homer and co. I hate the pens... boy do i, more than any other team in the league. However, you can't help but be jealous of what Shero has accomplished over there. He's 'all in' this year and I can only sit back and actually admire what he's been able to accomplish. Sure they'll have salary cap troubles in the future.. just like every other team in the league.
  6. "Profiles in Courage and Dedication" 2013 Philadelphia Flyers w/forward by Kyle Calder
  7. surely there is a back cover blurb by Roman Czechmanek here?
  8. and here i thought the flyer's couldn't score on anyone!
  9. well... all the talk of Snider here lately... Let's imagine this... What happens when Ed expires... retires? Do we know who is in line to take over ownership?
  10. still much better than the wholelottanothing they were gonna get for him this summer when he walked.
  11. now THIS is the JVR we all know well.
  12. It's 'lose' not 'loose' or 'losse' We are losing, not loosing. Or are we?
  13. gotta say.. i think these are great moves by Shero. your team was already good and he just added a few key components to a good cup drive. shored up your D a little and i think Morrow will drink from the fountain of youth during the playoffs.... you could have a deep run. as painful as that will be for us here to watch.
  14. best player in the world!? he's not even the best player on our team!!!
  15. sure... great players always elevate those around them... just ask Messier. i mean.. of course he was still a great player, but he wouldn't be THAT high up on the all time scoring list if it wasn't for his good buddy Gretzky. I mean.. let's be real here... Kunitz is NOT the next coming of Jari Kurri, but he's certainly benefitting quite nicely on lines with Malkin and Crosby.
  16. well.. Brenden Morrow i only half his $4.2m or somethings like that for the rest of the season and then he's UFA. not too hard there.
  17. one of his best games of the year... he was very very solid in net tonight. he gave them every chance to win it... 1 goal is NOT going to do it against this pissburg team.
  18. it's been a what? 2 month season? you're going to trade him based on that? AND it's his sophomore slump year? he gets a mulligan this year.. from me at least. of course i'm always listening if he could be moved for the right D man.... but, that's a big IF.
  19. well... it's very hard for any of us to say that Briere is being 'lazy'. it very well may be the case, but I cannot say for sure either way. whatever the reasons are... it's pretty obvious he's having a lousy season for us right now. maybe it's injury, maybe it is laziness... i still think he should be treated(by mgmt) with the respect he deserves for being a veteran leader and putting up the PPG numbers he has in the playoffs for us. Not only that, but it seems like guys here would like to dump him for a bag of pucks when this guy is a VERY valuable deadline trade commodity. no matter how dismal his play has been this season(except in berlin weirdly), i would hope that mgmt is talking him UP.
  20. i feel like there's no reason to be a dick to him. i mean... it wasn't all that long ago that he was our playoff hero. the guy has things to bring to the table, it's just not working out for him this year and especially since we won't be IN the playoffs to watch him do his thing. However... there are many teams who WOULD appreciate his talents in the playoffs and would probably overpay to get them. His cap hit is pretty high, but the actual dollars to be paid in the final 2 years could make him a very attractive pickup for any playoff bound team that needs clutch scoring. He's not just going to be a rental, which ... i would think... would increase the asking price for him. In short.. he's our most attractive trade asset as the deadline looms and Flyer's management should be shopping him aggressively. I'm sure that if they go to danny and say.. look.. we're gonna be in rebuild mode here and we wanna give you the chance to win a cup with a great organization(Habs? Canucks? Kings?) how about waiving that NMC. Look.. players get it.. if he's asked to waive, he knows his time there is done. the only *real* implication of a NMC is that he gets to ensure he's not marooned in hockey purgatory(columbus) and gets to choose his ultimate playoff bound destination.
  21. that's dead on.. AND i'm NOT an eagles fan.
  22. Yeah.. I tried to come along with this article and go with it's thinking. But, NO... it's a bad idea. He's still a young defenseman and is coming off some pretty major injuries. To say that his body is already in it's 30's is really just him trying to come up with *something*. In other words... this is a TERRIBLE IDEA. Yeah.. give up one of our only young good defensemen. Brilliant.
