WordsOfWisdom
Here we go again. I can already see the future headlines: Toronto lockdown cancels Cup parade Best season in Leafs history lasts 20 games Matthews retires with highest GPG in NHL history and not one 50-goal season

OccamsRazor
Well I think it was unfair to pause the Flyers since October. Hopefully they unpause them again at all...

Well, there was the Wonder Twins (Form of a Boat Anchor! Shape of a Sled!), Der Kapitan, Dubnyk, Staal, and a few other bums on the team they got rid of. But, yeah, you're more or less right.

TropicalFruitGirl26
I'm guessing there are a few teams that might be welcoming this pause, due to sliding horribly, getting back on track, or simply getting players back. As unfortunate as this pause is for most of the league, THESE teams may benefit from a reset: --- Edmonton Oilers. Looked fantastic coming out of the gate, but eventually their needs in goal and line depth caught up to them, and they slipped from tops in the West to 4th in their own division. Maybe this short break will allow them to reset mentally, and get some bodies back. ---New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers. Devils looked good for a bit, then reminded everyone why they are still a candidate for a lottery spot. They have talent, but have yet to consistently string together great games. Flyers have just looked gawd awful with several players severely underperforming. Coaches have been fired, and yea, they've been missing some guys too, but maybe this reset helps them feel they can get a mini "do-over". ---Florida Panthers. Looked like the team to beat in the entire Eastern Conference....until they stopped looking like the team to beat. Another group that has the players, but need that mental reset. ---Boston Bruins. Good games, followed by bad games, followed by so-so games. Mini restart to help them get their heads out of their bruins? Perhaps... ---San Jose Sharks. Yet another team that looked like they were resurging and were gonna be a factor in the Pacific, then started looking like the same ol Sharkies. They upgraded goaltending, some of their forwards, like Timo Meier look like they are back to their normal good selves, and even Erik Karlsson has seen a bit of a renaissance to his career with 19 pts in 24 games. They'd probably like this reset to get themselves back in order.

Winning 3 in a row would be amazing but winning 1 for the first time in 50+ years is going to be the bigger story. Think of what it was like for Chicago and New York for example. Much bigger celebration for the first one than if you repeat immediately afterwards.

Assuming, of course, they can realistically get it done. Bolts three-peat bid is by no means guaranteed, or even something that SHOULD happen, but the team is still pretty well equipped to accomplish it. Matthews and his pro-rated cronies still haven't figured out how to advance in the post season!
