Game 49: Los Angeles Kings at Philadelphia Flyers; 1/24/23 @ 7 PM, NBCSP

Greetings:

LA is a mild favorite (-129) with a 56% win probability, which reflects their season's pattern of having trouble with favorite status:

Their PP is good.  Drew Doughty is aging gracefully:

I assume Hart is in goal, unless Torts believes the team should atone for its sins against Winnipeg.  Seriously, I wonder if Sandstrom is going to play much for the remainder of the season.

BTW,  if Bellows never plays, is there use in keeping him with the parent?  Shouldn't they give someone else a shot? Do they care?

Good questions. I guess Bellows sticks around in case someone gets hurt but they could just as easily call him up if they need a warm body. I can’t remember the last time he was in the lineup. And what about Braun? Not that I miss him but is Seeler that much better? I guess it’s 6 in one hand half a dozen in the other…

Allison with another goal…nice power move great 2nd effort. Seems to be scoring pretty regularly lately. If he could just stay healthy he’d have a real nice NHL career.

oh Jeez Kopitar again…well that lead didn’t last long.

This was strange.  When it went OT, I knew the outcome.  Meanwhile, serious defensive lapses and lousy faceoffs were the order of the day.  I am glad Hart got us a point.

On a broader note, I repeat what I said after last game. We may have found our maximum effort for the year.  Torts and staff have cleaned up some of the worst aspects of the D.  There is some offensive cohesion.  But the talent level is not where it needs to be.

This game was outright stolen by poor officiating. The non calls that should have been made would have negated a minimum of 2 of the goals. I hope Torts takes the fine and calls out the POS refs and this travesty of officiating.

Emil Andrea is going to give the Flyers a chance to either move Ivan or Sanheim in about 2 years.

More likely Ivan at deadline in 2024-25 it will be his last under his current contract.

Then you'd have a top pair hopefully of Andrea and York.

Just looking ahead a little first things first finish the year and continue to remove the pieces that don't belong.

so sad ....only 4 posts in a game thread ...... years ago this would be 4-5 pages minimum.

Just sickening to see how far this franchise has fallen ...... sigh .....

There was a point at which the point they lost on Deangelo's trip would have been the cause for some discussion.

Now, it really doesn't matter.

For that matter, I'm not entirely sure he was tripped. He was stepping over a prone Copley and I suppose Kopitar may have clipped an ankle?

As for the no-call in overtime, Tortorella didn't seem to have a problem with it.

"It’s no penalty, no penalty," the head coach said. "You've got to skate, you've got to get back. I don't think it’s a penalty."

Sadly, this board and its eclectic group of contributors is far more entertaining than the dysfunction that is the Flyers. Arrogant, ignorant, irrelevant. Team Chucktard.

As the person who starts these threads, it's apparent the ship is sinking in terms of interest.  Yes, the product is quietly killing off interest.  I also think Semper Med has set in. When we were losing consistently and without effort, people were angry and vented here.  Now we are mediocre, with some hope of winning, and folks have quieted down.  Now we're numbed.  My brother texted me that it was going to overtime.  I texted back that would assure a loss.  Yep.  But that means I've grown numbed to us having the worst overtime history of any team in the league.  I accept the fact that we are something like .333 in OT.  That's awful.

Added to your observation - the issue is that they're back to being a middling, bubble playoff team that they've been for a decade.

And there's precious little evidence that more than that is even possible.

Meanwhile the Phillies were in the World Series, the Eagles are in the Conference Final, the Union were in the MSL Final, and the Sixers bless their heart have challenged for the Conference Final the past few years.

And "definitely a playoff team" is staring down another year no playoffs three years after the "good sign" of making the second round just six years after the "good sign" of losing to the Cup Finalist Rangers in 2014.

That's not rain.

We sincerely appreciate all your efforts!

Thank you!  But it is becoming a ritual with less feeling/intensity.  I posted for Game 50 against Minnesota about a half hour after the LAK loss.  Normally, I wait to see odds. I didn't bother and just went for it.  What can I say?
