Go Weber or go home

@radoran

I think Timmonen wants a cup bad and would be willing to waive his NMC to go to a contender. This of course would be at the deadline since virtually all teams are contenders (with the exception of Columbus and Toronto) in July.

I think if it looked like the Flyers are ill equipped to make a solid run come the deadline, the organization might be willing to part ways for a pick or a prospect.

That could be an option, but like you said, he'll probably be a Flyer until the contract expires.

I know, I know.... I am just very hard on them after the loss to NJ.

I guess all teams are contenders in October. Well 28 teams are, Columbus and Toronto are SOL.

There is also a good chance Timmo may not be done after this next upcoming season...and will resign for a hometown discount at around 4mill per. If so i would be open to resigning him, although older dude is a true warrior and would love to have him back.

The deadline-deal is a remote possibility - assuming the Flyers are completely out of it - but it doesn't really help the here and now of signings in the off-season is all.

Full disclosure: my t-shirt has #44 on the back :-)

I'd be surprised if it was $4M actually - thinking less pending his durability. Having him as ,say, a five and a 2nd unit PP specialist wouldn't be a bad role for a 39yo TImonen.

His contract was semi-front loaded so he's "only" making $3M real dollars next season.

He could also "pull a Selanne/Neidermayer" as well and go back to Finland for half a season before deciding to come back alluvasudden in December :-)

I hear you. I remember in my old beer league everybody wanted #44, but that was for Booger Pitkanen (back when we all thought he was the shoe in Norris candidate for years to come).

Maybe he is a possibility for a trade. Back to Philly reunited with Lavy. Ok, now I am getting way ahead of myself.

no no.. an aziz type prediction would be that bryz will start less than bob and marty biron will have more wins than him.

hey hey, that's not fair. mine were farfecthed, maybe, but not completely insane. then again, i'm not completely sure which catagory bryzgalov getting 42 wins falls under.

and it will all be done for PR.

like i said, it was either that or ed snider and paul holmgren are amongst the stupidest people on earth. i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

The only thing I am concerned about is how his back surgery will affect his play but with one more year on his contract, he will have a chance to show if he is recovered. If he is healthy, playing him 3rd pairing minutes with PP time would be good I think. The problem is, I don't want to pay over 2.5 mil for a 3rd pairing dman even though if healthy, he is no doubt worth it.

To the point. Ditch shelly add John Scott :). Add weber and suter. Trade kimmo or ask him to retire. Sign carle, nothing better on ufa list sorry guys. Sign Josh Harding. Buy out breezy when cba is signed. Clear space accordingly starting with jvr. But really if we can get suter wouldn't weber want to come as well? Imagine if pronger were to come back late season. Wow

this does nothing for me.

he always skated funny with that ankle thing, at 38-39 i think he'd be a smarter version of mike rathje. I would just as soon see him retire, sad, but really what is left for him to accomplish in the sport that is worth becoming a vegetable for ?

Pipe dream I know. However if you really think about it this way, what if suter and weber have talked about after this season. They both maybe don't want to be in Nashville anymore. If they did want to be there they would have signed by now. No way they can afford 21 mil for 3 players. Question is, what would it take to get weber once and if suter signs here? Would a combo of jvr Gus picks work? Maybe they would take kimmo back as part of package. Maybe coburn in there as well? Wouldn't be thrilled about that but I would consider it

But in that equation when it comes to pay it should be a little different because in a pinch Timmo could play anywhere in the lineup...his versatility must be considered.

I'd love to have Shea Weber as the Flyers new number one defenseman but I just don't see Nashville letting him go especially if Suter signs elsewhere. If Holmgren got rid of Shelley and didn't resign Kubina, how about Matt Carkner who played in Ottawa last year, the guy who laid a beating on Brian Boyle in the playoffs this year. He'd replace Kubina as a 3rd pairing defenseman and replace Shelley as the team's enforcer when needed and Holmgren could probably sign him for less than a $1 million per year.
