WordsOfWisdom
Year 1 of a rebuild. Timing is all wrong. Leafs don't have their future core group of players established yet. Stamkos would waste prime years of his career playing on a last place team. Stamkos alone will not elevate this Leafs team. No ONE player can elevate the Leafs. Acquiring Stamkos now would be like it was acquiring Kessel: a waste. Why deal with the media attention of playing in Toronto if you don't have to? You'll have as many Toronto fans and followers while playing for the opposition anyway.
J0e Th0rnton
Stamkos is resigning in Tampa anyways
BluPuk
I agree. I think all this delaying is just posturing to get more money If Stammer was going somewhere other than Tampa, it would not be Toronto (I think I said the same thing about Babcock though)........ With where Buffalo is in their rebuild, it makes way more sense than Toronto. They manage to sign Stamkos and a decent goalie and they become an immediate contender with all of the other young talent they have.

That's a good point. I never thought Babcock was going to come here either. I guess if Stamkos wants to play on a team where he would be the only star it's entirely his choice. JagerMeister
I recall Stamkos saying himself that his first and foremost goal is to attain the cup. So that basically removes Toronto out of his options.

Podein25
The pundits seem to be making a big deal of Stammer's relationship with coach Cooper and his steadfast commitment to play him at wing. That Stammer wants badly to play center and that may be enough for him to leave. Seems kinda crazy to me, but stranger things have happened. nickp
Even if the Leafs finish dead last they'll still lose the draft lottery to Edmonton, and Stamkos will stay put or sign in NY
