Honest answer: Yes But not for restaurant workers and some other excluded positions. Servers make $2.83/hr. (plus tips. $7.25/hr. if the $2.83 + tips doesn't reach that figure). The $7.25/hr. is actually still the federal minimum wage, though many states and municipalities have raised theirs higher. Not here in Pennsyltucky. That seems unsustainably low to me. I can only imagine the up stream costs... Edited November 15, 2019 by elmatus

OccamsRazor
On Patrick... Bill any update at all on Patrick? Have the headaches been an issue for all three years of his Flyers career or really just this year? - bsw31usa No.... the migraines flared up in the spring. He had a concussion in March, and they weren't sure if it was PCS or something else but the genetic issue was later diagnosed as the root cause. Problem is, he's still having good days and bad days and there's apparently more to it than just the migraine headaches (although what specifically, I don't know). For awhile, he was skating almost every day. Did a practice or two in a non-contact jersey and a morning skate with the team at Wells Fargo Center. But I haven't seen him on the ice, even skating on his own and/or doing skills work with Angelo Ricci, in a couple weeks. It's possible he's doing it early in the morning ahead of me getting to the Skate Zone -- reminds me of a Chris Pronger story, which I'll relay in a moment -- but I haven't heard about it.Pronger story: Pre-concussion, when he was rehabbing an injury (I think it was his back), I came to the Skate Zone one morning several hours ahead of practice. Pronger was doing some light skating on his own. He saw me and gave a "don't blow my cover" kind of wink because he hadn't "officially" started skating yet. Doesn't sound encouraging. Might as well just shut him down for the season....sounds like they might have just haven't told anyone. Cale Makar sure would look good on this team. 23 points in 21 games. Why are my Flyers so cursed??

Poulin20
Both times we had the #2 pick since the Buttman NBA lottery system was put into place they ended up with "Meh" picks who didn't get them anywhere near a championship. (Even after spending time at reeducation camp JVR still sucks) It's nauseating. I still have vivid nightmares about Kane scoring the cup clinching goal on Leaky in 2010 and that was almost 10 years ago now! Hard to imagine many GMs passing on Patrick at #2 at the time. You should always be looking for a defenseman especially a "better defenseman". And yeah I know we get hindsight. But it was well documented here some of us was worried about Patrick's durability issues. And well here we are. So if we are going to praise Hextall for all his finds we have to mention his whiffs. And this looks like a monumental whiff maybe the only one worse right now is coming to mind is the infamous JVR. What if they just traded back? Both times. We'll never know. Sure, but it was completely unrelated to his migraine issues (at least that we know of). It's just crappy for Patrick the person *and* the professional hockey player that he's having to deal with this.

I mean for christ sake Coots fell because he caught mono which worked in the Flyers favor. Point being Patrick had injury issues and should have even been sent back to junior for another year but Ron was desperate and made a bad call with that too. My problem isn't with that desperate call to bring Patrick up, as much as it was drafting a player with injury issues to begin with. Don't get me wrong, Patrick is very talented, but he won't do the Flyers much good (obviously), if he's in and out of the lineup every 3 weeks. I know he was the consensus #2 pick, but maybe it would have been in hindsight to have looked in another direction in that draft. The more we distance ourselves in time from the Hextall era, the less I miss him being here. Perhaps, that was solely a Hextall pick. It may not primarily be the whole "vending machine/health food" thing....not allowing a Club Med atmosphere, that got him fired. Maybe their was controversy as to who to take with that pick.

IIRC, the consensus was that Patrick and Hischier were the clear 1/2 picks in what was not considered a particularly good - or deep - draft. I think many fans were happy to get the Canadian of the two. Still think that the organization - and by that, we obviously include Hextall - unnecessarily rushed the kid into the bigs. Can be hard at 19/20 to go from playing 33 games in Junior (due to injury) to 73 games as a second line center with expectations in the NHL.

Being that we had little depth at center at the time, I understand why. That being said, as you state...it was a bad choice. My other issue is, the kid had injury issues before he was drafted did he not? That should have been a major red flag.

He had abdominal surgery the summer before his first season and missed the developmental camp. Apparently a sports hernia that lingered... I get that they were looking for a second line center (and still were two years later...). I'm just not a fan of doing something "because you have to" if it means a long term problem. Hard to predict, I'll grant you, and he may not have had much to gain from another year in Junior aside from building up stamina.
