  1. Great game for Pens, in particular of course, MAF...can't get over that glove save behind the back!! Unbelievable! Liked the pad save off Clowe too...just great all night. A shutout on the opening game, not too shabby...haha. As much as I like Schneids, I knew the Pens would overpower him this game. He's really gonna have to up his game playing these eastern teams more regularly now, somewhat different than the west! (Yah I never really cared much for Tanner Glass when he was with us either! lol Good to see him at least contributing!)
  2. Good game, Blues! You even threw Rinne off his game...woah! Hope to see more of your games this year...Halak, another of my fave goalies...
  3. LOL! Hmm, even I give Torts at least 1 more game...he may give a concerted effort tonite to restrain himself to TRY TO prove everyone wrong anyway....but every short fuse has its day! (He may be all the more holding it back after Roy's meltdown last nite!)
  4. @fishbulb Lappy is now centering for the Blues & yah, was he EVER a pest! Lol. My picks would be also Marchand & let's not forget everybody's fave: Matt Cooke (now with Minnesota Wild). >:
  5. Yes, they are one of my 'fun' teams to watch this year...I'm rooting for them as they were the 'underdogs' for so long...they might end up being my 2nd favourite team this year..I hope Bob will have another big year or something close to it... ^_^ GO JACKETS!!
  6. From what little I saw of Bernier in the pre-season, he was looking good vs the Wings on Friday, 32 saves after all (the 2 that I saw were amazing)...they were just way outshot by the Wings...Howard only had 19 shots at him compared to Bernier's 37! I think Bernier will do well & it will be fun to watch & good for the team to have the 2 goalies sparring with each other in the blue paint this season. Imo, I think that's a healthy position to be in for the Leafs.
  7. Good for Sean...pretty exciting to see how some of these rooks fare after that big draft day...good that he gets a 9-game tryout. C'mon Flames, need some competition from you, our old archrival...heh heh heh.
  8. On Monday, 'Nucks acquired Zac Dalpe (turning 24 yrs old) and Jeremy Welsh (25) from the Carolina Hurricanes. While Welsh has been since sent down to the Utica Comets, Dalpe may be finding himself on a 3rd line spot to fill Kassian's shoes, either as a centre or right wing, of which he can play both. He's played 41 NHL games, while Welsh has only played 6 for the 'Canes. Dalpe, who grew up in Ontario was actually a 'Nucks fan as a kid, with heroes like Pavel Bure, so it's pretty cool that he ended up in Van. Will be interesting to see where Zac will fit in & how he develops with the team. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Dalpe+stays+with+Canucks+Jeremy+Welsh+sent+down/8978733/story.html
  9. @Commander Clueless Nice to see you back & around the forum, Commander! I also was quite impressed with Mrazek in the Pens game last week, though it was a loss, what can you say? It was the rooks vs the likes of Sid & Malkin... Too bad, was hoping to see more of this rookie 'tender this season..think this kid will do well in future/NHL.
  10. That is a good deal for Hansen, a fairly under-rated & under-the-radar kind of guy...one of the fan favourites. A pretty consistent player..I'm glad they've locked him in for 4 yrs, here's hoping he ups his game this season, now that our roster is finally looking 'healthier'!
  11. @flyercanuck Haha...but don't you still have to face Brendan Gaunce in Belleville now? He was looking pretty decent too.
  12. I had seen the re-play & it was clear as day, his elbow was down, not a dirty hit at all...so something actually went the Flyers' way?? :PHI:
  13. @Polaris922 (The Pens can have a 'bad' game?? .....sssshhh.....don't tell the Flyer fans!! )
  14. Wow yave, i haven't been following the kid since the draft, but I just happen to be watching a special "Driven: 2013 NHL Draft" on the NHL Network (free preview) & they just re-played his pick process. Such high hopes for him & speculations that day. Really, what a pretty big disappointment. And to think that could have also happened to our Shinkaruk or BoHo, we're pretty fortunate so far. But he is so young & has lots of time to develop & get his legs. Hope to see him on the rise in the future.
  15. @EDI-Flyer (It's funny, hf101 actually said the opposite in my other rookie's post, that Torts isn't the type to play rooks..lol!) Yah, I agree, 9 games is better than none & will really thrill the fans to see them on the ice...maybe start to soothe some of the wound of that Schneids trade? lol. Can't wait to watch them this season!
  16. I've always liked Joel and I agree, he is a very classy guy. His accomplishments have been quite spectacular, he is absolutely doing something right. (Hey, when did you become a 'Division Moderator'? I didn't know there was such a thing..lol. So that means we need to be minding our 'p's and 'q's with each others' teams? LOL. Heads up yave, you're rounding 1,000..haha)
  17. Our top picks Hunter Shinkaruk & Bo Horvat will be starting on our roster beginning this year, for at least 9 games, which is pretty exciting for us. Shinkaruk has started with quite an impressive splash, netting 2 goals in the pre-season. BoHo, has also made some heads turn with some good defensive zone play, effective work in face-offs such as in the game vs 'Yotes & had 2 assists that game also. (Another plus of having Kassian & Weise on suspensions for me...lol). Here's to a successful season start for these 2 star rooks! http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/eye-on-hockey/23878133/nhl-rumors-rookies-horvat-shinkaruk-will-start-season-with-canucks
  18. @hf101 I was listening to a bit of sports radio & also the sportscasters last nite, it seems Vancity is a bit surprised by the Corrado send down. Possibly even angered some fans. But the above article states some good reasons why Torts made the decision, so I do understand. He doesn't require waivers so it's much easier to ship him than Yannick Weber or Andrew Alberts (although, good lord, I'm starting to regret the re-signing of Alberts, just horrid! Wish we could keep Frankie & send Alberts down! lol). But yes, you're right, I think Frankie will be considered top choice for any injuries, he's earned his place as 1 of the top 8 d-men. Good for him. Haha, 5-0 vs Rangers is probably more a testament to Luongo's perfect play last nite (46 saves I think) than to our guys, although, yes, they certainly looked a lot better than the disastrous SJ game. The Rangers just did not show up, no legs at all, looked exhausted, jetlagged & by then possibly didn't really care as it was an x-game. I heard they looked the same in their previous game. Not a good sign for them, as they will have to be flying a lot this season, feel kinda bad for them. They face the Kings tonite on top of it all, in Vegas, of all places! I will certainly be happy if the Nucks can keep this up though (& Booth & Kes can stay injury-free!), esp when Lu usually has a dreadfully slow Oct. Tonite, I get to watch my 1st Flyers' game, believe it or not! We are getting free Center Ice previews here, but I'll be signing up once it ends later in Oct. (Haha...thanks...yah I was trying to put the Green Men doing their handstands by the penalty box for my avatar, but it just doesn't show up very well...I DO like the toque though! lol..... )
  19. @pilldoc But Viagra lasts at least 4 hrs doesn't it? So then, that should cover us for any overtime too! (We'd be willing to try your cream compounds though, heck, we'll try anything at this point...just get us past the 1st/2nd round come playoff time! IF we make it there, that is!)
  20. Sorry about the game tonite vs NJ, fellas! The game chat in the shoutbox barely lasted... I couldn't see it televised but the guys gave the play-by-play. Well, to be honest, when I started reading this thread, it sounded so eerily similar to the 'Nucks (or as rad calls them, the Nyucks). Only in our case, the annoying pattern is that they tend to come out strong in the 1st period, & then head into Suck City for periods 2 and 3. (or some variation thereof, but usually ends up with a bad 3rd, like they just run out of steam, no consistency, no stamina). The only reason we won tonite 5-0 vs Rangers is cuz they just did not show up to play, no legs, jetlagged, exhausted. King Henrik had also left the building it seems before the game began. Don't know what happened there. So I can entirely relate to the Flyers' situation & your frustrations. In your case, I don't know how they could get the jolt to get going? In our case, I don't know how they're going to have the stamina to keep going the other 40 mins? Hopefully Torts can change things up for us. (See you guys on Oct 15th! )
  21. Surprisingly, & despite a strong finish in tonite's last pre-season game vs the Rangers, with 1 goal & 1 assist & a '+ 2' rating, rookie d-man Frankie Corrado has been sent down to the 'Nucks farm team in Utica, NY by Torts, along with centre man Zach Hamill. Torts will have another look at Corrado come Nov/Dec. Forward Brendan Gaunce has also been sent back to his OHL team in Belleville, ON. I was hoping Gaunce would stay on the roster, but he needs more time to develop per Torts. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/hockey/vancouver-canucks/Canucks+Corrado+shipped+Comets+after/8965501/story.html
  22. You got that right! I actually didn't like him much either when he was playing for us. I can't stand dirty/undisciplined players. Having said that, enter Zack Kassian & Dale Weise...lol.
  23. Wow, a lineup talk thread and it's NOT about the Flyers?? LOL. Sorry to interject, but I just have to say, I saw the Pens vs Wings game a couple days ago (as I'm getting free previews with Center Ice) & that was a wicked game by the Pens. Very entertaining...they played like it was a 'playoff' game! That spinorama & quick release shot by Kunitz is really one for the highlight reels. Unbelievable. They are just fun to watch.
  24. The Canadian jerseys look like a 2-yr old's pajama's. My mother could knit a better looking jersey, maple leaf & all, & also keep our colours in tact! The US jerseys aren't the best I've seen either but I think they are at least sharper looking than ours! WHAT is Nike thinking?? (Someone give them a hole-puncher & some laces, quick!) https://www.google.ca/search?q=us+olympic+hockey+jersey+2013&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=YvZEUvfPAbDXiAKIgYHwBQ&ved=0CEwQsAQ&biw=910&bih=439&dpr=1 (I wasn't allowed to paste the actual photos of the US jerseys here)
  25. Ah. It just looks suspicious to me & i wouldnt put it past him & he will deny it til he's blue in the face & so will the 'Nucks. Not impressed.
