Game 61: Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils; 2/25/25 @ 7 PM, NBCSP

Greetings:

The O and B are underdogs (+240).  We've played well against the Devils this year, taking 2 of 3 so far.  That said, we are 12-29 out of the last 41 in the Metro, and 15-42 in our last 57 back-to-backs:

Ersson is in goal.  Statistically, NJ dominates on faceoff and offense:

You'd hope they re-engage after last night's bleep show versus Montreal.  But without Konecny, our offense dries up.  From a draft standpoint, losing is good.  From the team development vantage, our play since the All-Star break (really the New Year) is a mess and scary.  I think Torts, like his predecessors, can only put so much lipstick on the pig.  Long shifts in your defensive zone with serious coverage breaks don't reflect well on the D, but Scottie Laughton said it well last night--the gaps in D were in part the forwards' fault.  But I'd go a step further--if you're not winning faceoffs in the offensive zone and your forwards don't generate high quality chances, you're conceding the game.  That problem was here long before Torts. I hope some of the Lehigh boys can score.   Sorry for preaching to the choir.

No need to apologize. After watching that slop on the ice last night Flyers’ fans have to be a little disgusted. Another game where the opposition owns the puck 90% of the time (slight exaggeration). Tippett looked good though. Unfortunately Frost is just not ready for prime time in my opinion. He should’ve stayed in Lehigh at least another year. Better for him better for the Flyers.

Because if Tippett ever gets a real center to lead his line he’ll score 30+ without a doubt.

Tonight may be even worse than last night. Not many teams have beaten the Devils in Newark this year. Sam will probably face a blizzard of shots and the Flyers- like you said without TK the offense is a dry well.

Worst of all I have to listen to Chico Resch…

Yeah I had a feeling this one might be ugly… 5-0 still 14 mins to go. The Flyers just can’t compete with a teams that have talent throughout their lineup like the Devils.

Frost looks particularly bad tonight. Multipe TOs, a HS penalty, overmatched whoever he goes up against.

Morin, Rubstov, Patrick + overpaid stiffs and traded picks to acquire said stiffs. New Jersey has acquired good picks and made some good complementary trades. They had their walk in the desert and emerged. We just keep walking. New coach, same walk in the desert.

Well the trade deadline is just about the only Flyers related thing worth looking at this year. After it's over (and likely Fletcher does nothing much) it's on to the draft lottery. Watching the team any more this year is kind of pointless (if it wasn't already).

I hope this stretch of play confirms what we've been saying for years.  Coaching isn't the problem. Torts' post-game presser was interesting on that score. He wants the players to understand the reality of the season's end--it won't be pleasant.  He even took responsibility for making sure they didn't see it as their fault. That is a quiet dig at management!

The Devil's picks in those drafts aside from Hischier aren't much to write home about.

It's picking top 10 in five of the last six drafts.

It's not "spending to the cap" just to spend to the cap.

It's not an "aggressive retool."

It's not "make the playoffs and anything can happen."

So is this JVR once again pulling the i'm hurt so he doesn't get traded again to the Flyers damn this guy just haunt the Flyers forever.

What a crock of sh it. It would be nice to flip for anything but no he is still here. Knowing Chuck he'll extend him for 3 more years. I hate this team!
