Bryz - Chipped bone in foot...

I kinda liked Manning in his short debut myself

I liked Manning as well.

With all the different defensive call ups, I wonder if Lavi is simply trying everyone out so he can make final decisions for the POs. I wonder if the Flyers are higher on MAB than we think and they just wanted to get a good look at all the other guys and get them NHL experience since there's a likelyhood that the Flyers will have to dip into their reserves come playoffs.

In an interview on Daily News Live, orthopedic specialist Mark Schwartz, said it was not unusual for chip fractures of this nature to sideline a normal person for seven to 10 days.

“No surgery required," Holmgren said. "It's not like van Riemsdyk’s broken foot. It’s a a chip off a weight-bearing bone and the doctors said it will be absorbed back into the system. There’s no real risk here at all."

The injury happened in warm-ups on Monday, when Bryzgalov blocked a shot taken by teammate Jakub Voracek. Despite that, there was never a plan for Bryzgalov to sit out for the game against the Lightning.

"He wanted to play," Holmgren said. "We had an X-ray after warm-ups with his skate on and nothing showed. An X-ray after the game didn’t show. And an MRI (taken Tuesday) showed a small little chip in there. So we’re dealing with it. We’ll see how the next couple of days go. Nobody is really concerned about this."

@hf101

"Holmgren stated in his interview that with rest the bone chip (spur) can dissolve by natural methods."

Isn't the same as with kidney stones. They use some sort of ultrsonic device to break apart the stones (bone chip in this instance). I am going to presume its a very small chip, but enough to cause discomfort.

@aziz

Holmgren did say chip, but he also said it was a small fragment of bone chipped off, thus it can be a spur that has chipped off too right? To the best of my knowledge small pieces of bone chip off all the time especially when stressed and are re-dissolved in the body.

For what it is worth Holmgren really downplayed the whole thing, basically said he needed a few days of rest.

My God, I didn't realize it was this serious.

If we go with how things usually play out after management says not to worry, Bryzgalov will have his leg removed by the end of the week.

This is really getting deflating. Its so hard to foresee a cup run when you are on the edge of your seat waiting for the devastating injury to stop this team in its tracks.

I feel like in Philly sports we just get the worst luck. Meanwhile the 9-7 Giants win the Superbowl and get there on 2 muffed punts.

Sometimes sports suck.

Dammit @Phillygrump, why'd you have to go THERE!!!!????

My exact words to my wife after Supe were "I'm not watching sports anymore, it's no fun being reduced to rooting against teams I hate, just for them to win anyway". That lasted about a half a day, but you know what I mean....
