Samifan Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 So which players do you see getting called up for the practice squad once the Phantoms season ends next week? Akeson, Lauridsen, VandeVelde, Heeter. Bruno Gervais Quote

Akeson, Lauridsen, VandeVelde, Heeter. Bruno Gervais I'd add Ghost to that list....after today....Cousin may have a shot he has come on strong for the Phantoms this past month....Straka may make it too...really not a lot to chose from. Stolarz could make it too... Quote
idahophilly Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 It's not such a bad crop really... Glass is half full.... Quote
flyercanuck Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 @OccamsRazor Don't think Stolarz is released, they're still in the Mem Cup. Quote
OccamsRazor Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 It's not such a bad crop really... Glass is half full.... Ghost could be a Krug type catalyst for the power play and transition game...i'd assume he's take GrossmanN's spot in the lineup if they sign him.... Quote
OccamsRazor Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 @OccamsRazor Don't think Stolarz is released, they're still in the Mem Cup. Yeah they are the host team but i wonder what would happen if it was over and he hadn't finished his suspension he wouldn't be eligible to join the Flyers i think. Quote
flyercanuck Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 @OccamsRazor He's 20. His OHL career is done after this season. Quote
idahophilly Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Everyone seems to say the "cupboard is empty" but it's got some promising pieces in it. It is thin to moderate at best but not empty.... Quote
OccamsRazor Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 @OccamsRazor He's 20. His OHL career is done after this season. Yes i was just wondering would he be allowed to join the black aces or not because his suspension wasn't over and all.... Quote
RonJeremy Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 I think Alt is the dman they would call up Quote

flyercanuck Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Everyone seems to say the "cupboard is empty" but it's got some promising pieces in it. It is thin to moderate at best but not empty.... Laughton and Ghost were two good prospects. We stunk last year and didn't trade our picks so we doubled our pool in one draft with the addition of Morin and Hagg. Laughton is ranked 23rd Morin 38th in the Top 50 NHL prospects by Hockeys Future. Laughton was named in 7 different categories in the OHL coaches poll, tops in the league. He was voted top player for both faceoffs and penalty kill in the Eastern Conference, voted 2nd in smartest player, best shot, most dangerous in goal area and best defensive forward and 3rd in hardest shot. flyercanuck Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 @idahophilly Heck no, we're not empty. But we're far from deep. Our top 4 prospects could all end up being very good NHLers. Or not. None of them would be what you call "bluechip" as far as can't miss types. I've said before, I think Holmgren is pretty good at evaluating talent. He's just not too good at keeping the draft choices needed to acquire it. That's why the farm team isn't too good. Quote
radoran Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 So you also agree we are not empty on the farm team. ?Well, this year they were bare on the farm. None of the guys you and FC are discussing - ghost, hagg, laughton - were available. There was a reason that they were reliant on mcginn once vandevelde (who was a pickup this season) went down. And the org itself seems to have no faith in the Phantoms' top scorer.Next year they will be better off. But they did have six forwards on two ways that would pay $700k or more that never even got considered as a callup. Quote
OccamsRazor Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 man, stirred up a hornets there.... No. No hornets nest stir you asked the question you got the answers. The Calvary is coming it just won't be this year.... Quote
DaGreatGazoo Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I think Rad touched on it, but they can't recall Ghost; unless they sign him. He's not under contract. Quote
AbelMorpheus Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 My mom taught me a neat word association game when I was a kid. Cavalry. V first = violence (soldiers). Calvary. L first= love (Jesus on the cross). Just a usefull tip for any impending interview questions. Quote
Samifan Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Melter said he would tweet them and post on his Hockeybuzz blog once he finds out. I haven't seen any updates yet. Quote
Bertmega Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 @Lunatic The Black Aces are the Flyers expanded playoff roster. Essentially after the Phantoms season ended they announced who these players would be. In other words, they are the playoff emergency call-ups and they practice with the Flyers during the playoffs. Yes but all the kids skating with the team aren't eligible for the playoffs though. Quote
Bertmega Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 @OccamsRazor This is true.... I just figured I'd get the basics out for Lunatic. Quote
