RECAP: JAGR NETS PAIR, PANTHERS EXTEND FRANCHISE RECORD WITH 9TH WIN IN ROW

Kinda makes you wonder what the Flyers could have built on if they had kept him. Jagr G and Harts. Every once in a while you throw someone new into the mix to build their confidence, then send them back to their line and see what they learned.

Yeah especially to turn around and sign that bum Vinny to that deal....if only Jagr would have been offered Vinny's deal they would still getting value from it.

It was a bad move and I think a lot of people on this forum voiced that when it happened.

He was the perfect person for Giroux and Jake to learn from, let alone all the young kids coming up.

It was a tragic mistake on so many levels.

Giroux had a (so far) career-best year. Voracek really emerged as a full season player.

And it was not coincidentally the last time they got past the first round of the playoffs (one playoff round since...) losing to an eventual Cup FInalist.

Homer threw it away chasing two players (Suter, Parise) who had no intention AT. ALL. of coming here.

Four years later the "done" Jagr's current stats would have him leading the team in goals and second in points (one behind Giroux) and the Flyers have a boat anchor of a contract sitting in the press box with a no movement clause.

Yes and let's not forget Hartnell had his career year 39 goals....which earned him the contract that got him traded...got to love it.

Yeah, he is exactly the veteran role model that this crop needs and has needed for a while.  Basically since he left.  Boy, that was the beginning down a horrible path of destruction.  Keeping him would've prevented so many other bad decisions.

I had a post a short while ago all about how that summer was the real reason they're in this mess.

Not resigning Jagr and Carle has lead to a dozen subsequent mistakes and the team has never recovered.

Not that either was so amazing they'd have won a cup by now, but the lengths they've gone to to try to just refill those two holes have dug them down into the pit of cap hell that now prevents this team from developing or being competitive.

Instead of 11millon on VLC and MacDonald who don't play how about 6 for Jagr and Carle who do?

Do we need to trade Hartsy for two years of relief in that case?

What if they locked up Carle during the season? Do they need to prematurely give up on JVR for Luke?  What's JVR look like with 3 more years playing next to Jagr?

What about Jake and G?  Simmer?  Coots? B Schenn?

Imagine if 18 million could have been spent on improving the team instead of chasing ghosts Homer decided to let go?

^^^How many times can I like this^^^^

Keep Jagr, keep Carle, keep Harts. JVR maybe. But like I said, how beneficial would it have been to rotate Read, Coots, Simmer, Schenn, Raffl....hell any of the kids that got called up, to play shifts with Jagr. To be around him in the locker room or the gym. To learn his dedication and passion. Intangibles. Things, that as a fan I noticed and that Homer as a manager of a professional hockey team didn't? Unbelievable! Are you so close you don't see the obvious?

Ya, Carle's 0 points in 33 games this year would help us with our scoring woes

He became worthless as soon as Pronger took the stick to the eye...without him he couldn't do crap...hard to believe but true.

very true... but, maybe it would have kept us from signing Vinny?  One can only wish!

No, I don't see it that way. Briere's buy-out was used to sign Vinny.......

To get a gift from the NHL (compliance buy-out) and to use it on an even worse contract

Good job Homer

How many are Mac and VLC potting us?

The he point remains the same. Carle costs the same as Mac and for a shorter duration and has co tributes to his team in the intervening years helping them get to the finals plus just winning way more than the Flyers.

ThAt's not even really the point. The point is, look at everything Homer did chasing his tail to replace Carle?  One guy. A top 4 dude.  If it was JUST MacDonald, he point would be valid, but it's not.  It's a laundry list of crappy acquisitions and overloaded contracts

Jagr wanted a fraction of Vinny's deal.  Jagr didn't want a lot of money and still doesn't get much. At the time he wanted 3 years and would have settled for 2.  Probably at 2.5 -3.5 or so per year.

Homer literally didnt think he had another 2 years in him enough to prioritize signing him.   Homer wasn't wrong  Jagr falls off every spring   But who cares?  He still outpaces most guys on this team who earn way more for way longer     .

There re was no excuse for not resigning him   homer thought he could get praise and suter   And thus didn't make Jagr or Carle a priority. And here we Are

Can you even imagine?

I think it definitely would have saved us from Vinny.  I think Homer only ever thought of Vinny because he thought he could catch lightning in a bottle like he did with Jagr. Let's not forget that at the time, the Jagr deal that brought him here was slightly controversial.  He was way too old we all thought.  Homer was right that time... And the idiot outsmarted himself.

Briere was bought out because he wasn't as effective and his contract lasted forever. He might as well have just traded Briere for Vinny if he had visions of Vinny at the time.
