Devils in five relatively easy games. Hurricanes absolutely overrated in almost every aspect, losing Svech and Terravainen kills their offense.

Goalies: :devils:

Defense: :hurricanes:

Offense: :devils:

Special teams (PP/PK): :devils:

Coaching: :hurricanes:

Mental: :devils:

Experience: :hurricanes:

Robustness: :hurricanes:

Depth: :devils:

Tough to say. Devils are unpredictable but they found a hot goalie and are capable to shut things down while having a good offense. I agree with @yave1964, the Canes' offense is depleted and seems overrated. I like New Jersey's chances there. Devils in 6.

I really don't see where they have the firepower to move on. The Islanders were a perfect first round match for them.

This is the Devils' series to lose.

Hockey is a funny sport .....  I guess that is why they play the games on the ice .....

Canes have outscored the Devils 11-2 in the first two games .... go figure.

Devils' series to lose, and they're losing it.

I'd say the Carolina edge in playoff experience is playing a role.

Skating.

Carolina is as good/fast as the Devils.

They are men NJD are boys.

The Devils will be a very good, dynamic team for the next 6 years,  at least.

When this core become men they will be a team to beat in the East.

But not today Satan (and I don't mean Miroslav)

Holy Zhitnik, that's a good line, mojo. :bigteeth:

They're going to be good for a long time, with Hughes and Hischier.  This is what happens when you accept the fact, that you have to tank for a higher draft pick, on occasion. The Flyers still refuse to do that, and it p*sses me off. It will be a miracle if they end up with the first pick in this draft.

Not really you just have to find a team who is will to trade up for assets later like Howie did with the Saints.

They just come off a Super bowl trip and picked in the top 10.

Sure I also get it that it doesn't happen regularly but you have to be creative sometimes and let hope Danny can be.

But yes in most cases you have to finish top 3 a lot to have a chance at a Super star which hasn't worked for the Sabres either.

But you can always try your best to find a Brayden Point later in the draft.

Trade Hart + for the number one pick? I would. Is that even a remote possibility?? Would Anaheim, who I'm presuming will get the ping pong ball or whatever, in their favor..do that?  The Eagles have (at least) three things that the Flyers don't. Jeff Lurie, Howie Roseman and a creative, and a (sanely) aggressive mindset.

It is going to take a King's Ransome to get that kid.

Ask your self would you trade that kid for a goalie who has just been ok and plus?

Think of the Eric Lindros trade back in the day.

I would trade Hart for sure for him but it ain't going to happen.

Best they can hope for is to win the pick out right.

Agree with OC here, that won't even get Anaheim to pick up the phone.

It would take Hart + another 1st Rd + at least 2 top end prospects  + a starting player (TK?) ......... and then that might not even be enough.

The conversation starts with "what would you trade the #1 pick for?" and your answer is likely similar to the person with the #1 pick.

No team looking to get the #1 pick needs a Carter Hart rather than Conner Bedard.

Agree!  Was stating the obvious that that Hart for the the #1 pick overall in a generational type talent of Bedard is NEVER going to happen.  If it did that GM selling the #1 pick for just one player should be immediately terminated.

Everytime I write off this NJD team they come storming back.

In light of that, I believe!

Go Jack Hughes!

Go...uh, uh Jesper Bratt

MacKenzie Blackwood is in the wings!!!!!

**** it, I can't .

4 goals in a 5:20 span of period two and Vanacek is pulled for the 2nd time in the playoffs.  Not all his fault but could have stopped a couple.

His performance is what at my place of employ called a “CLA”…

Career-Limiting Action

I feel bad for the ex-Capital.

Vanecek had been at his best during the season in a tandem with either Blackwood or Schmid.
I don't think that the Devils should con themselves into thinking he could be there go-to solution in net.

If NJ is smart, win or lose this series, and right now, they are looking like they got one foot on the golf course already, they look to make Akira Schmid their number one, with Vanecek backing HIM up.
Schmid has shown he has what it takes even at his sub 25 years of age, and even though he got beat up a bit by the Canes, it will likely be a learning experience for him.....he was good whenever he was called upon throughout the season and even when they first got him into these playoffs.

Canes adjusted to him and exploited him, now it will be his turn, along with his goalie coach, to adjust themselves.

A likely follow-on approach.

Vanny has had enough time and experience during and after his Caps stint.  He’s not just off the boat.  If he can’t summon Playoff Mojo by now, not sure he ever will.
