Game 7: Minnesota Wild at Philadelphia Flyers; 10/26/23 @ 7:30, ESPN+/Hulu

Greetings:

This is another "streaming game."  It's a bit early on odds, but this sportsbook gives the Wild a 59% win probability.  Their offense generates a lot more scoring than the O and B.

Historically, we do well against them at home; the recent history is one-goal decisions:

We've played well in our away losses; we see if being at Wells makes a difference.

LGF!

What does this mean?

Yeah, I hate to say it, but there's probably more in the offing due to cable cutting. Comcast just announced earnings. They were a little better than expected. Why? A number of people who got Peacock included in their cable converted to the paid streaming version. That made up in part for declining broadband.

I suspect this switch has impacted posts here, which seem to be dipping. Yes, it's a rebuild year. But I wonder if long-time fans are simply checking out. I agree with Mkscewy. I am not adding another streaming service to get these games.

All this is because cable is in a huge transition.

It is trying to swing (for Direct TV example only) from needing a satellite and all the boxes and equipment to just needing an app or your TV or streaming device. For example i have 3 boxes i pay for from Direct TV to be able to use my TVs.

But they are trying to do away with the equipment needed and that helps with the service and maintenance as well makes it so much easier to just plug the cable to the back of the TV or connect wirelessly to your cable modem and be able to stream.

A huge cable war is going on and we are in the middle of it. It's why i have not bought the TV packages for the NHL or NFL the last two years i have found other ways to watch the game or just not watch it at all (in most cases with the Flyers cause they suck).

But i have went out my way to watch the Eagles because they are on a quest for another Super bowl.

No need to fork out money for the Flyer unless you have to watch this wreck and or just need to be pissed at something.

Wish i would have read your post before i typed mine. But you're right.

Most of us have had enough and work to hard for our money to just waste it on crap entertainment.

I will pay for what i think i will get my return on my investment with.

And in the Eagles case i would get my return on my investment in this case $360+ for the season isn't worth it for me especially when i consider down south here half the games are already on TV for free so yeah i passed on the TV package.

Not worth it to me.

Well  this moves tells me yes they are trying to make the playoffs IDGAF whatever else they say this is a playoff run move.

You don't send down a kid and not call up another kid for a shot. These two are for depth at a serious playoff run.

Some will be mad and i get it. But they trying to fill seats. And get the kids some winning experience.

FLYERS

11 Travis Konecny - 21 Scott Laughton - 71 Tyson Foerster
74 Owen Tippett- 14 Sean Couturier - 89 Cam Atkinson
86 Joel Farabee - 27 Noah Cates - 10 Bobby Brink
44 Nic Deslauriers- 25 Ryan Poehling- Garnet Hathaway

8 Cam York - 6 Travis Sanheim
5 Egor Zamula - 26 Sean Walker
24 Nick Seeler - 37 Louie Belpedio

79 Carter Hart
[33 Samuel Ersson]

Louie Belpedio is a very very sound two way defenseman. Not big 5-11 189 but he can move the puck and his positioning is sound.

Not going to stand out in any way kind of what you want in a 5th or 6th guy. And gives them more balance with another Right shot in the lineup.

I think Andrae getting more and, more important minutes in the AHL will help him tremendously.

Take advantage of his rookie deal and being waiver exempt.

I also think these other two guys may be getting some NHL time so they can be traded. Other teams will want an NHL sample size.

I don't think anyone in a seat of power is thinking this team is going to "go for it" Now.

I wouldn't be surprised if Andrae is called up and sent down a few more times this season.

Yes his skillset needs top minutes and he still needs work to learn how things work on a smaller ice it will help him with his vision and decision making he needs to be playing top minutes on the power play too and he wasn't getting any in the NHL.

The Flyer have jumped to thinking they are going to go on a playoff run...many of us knew this was coming at the slightest sign of good winning play.

Whatever i am over them getting a top 5 pick these kids they have are hungry and skilled and just want to win.

So just coach them up and see where the chips fall. I'm not going to see here and be pissed that this doesn't feel like a rebuild.

Because it don't but at the same time i know on paper it is a solid roster once they purged the dead weight which they did.

And if Coots and Cam came back hungry and ready to play they come be where they are right now.

The only thing that concerns me in the slightest is when it comes to purging further and removing aging players now will Danny so so when a playoff spot is within reach to them.

Like if they go for a playoff spot while also moving older guys i would be ok with it.

Guys i want shopped/gone:

Atkinson

Laughton

Hathaway

Poelhing

Seeler

Staal

Ersson will be waiver exempt next season so i expect Danny to resign Sandstrom to maybe be brought back for one more year to back up Hart.

Ok then sit back and watch these moves are go for it moves otherwise call up and Attard or Ginning but nope they recalled the career AHLers makes that make sense "on a rebuild".

Occ:

$69 for Center Ice, even for a reduced number of games, is a bargain from my vantage.  Heck, a lower-bowl ticket to one game would cost that or more.  But I suspect that as cord cutting increases, the number of games on Center Ice will head south.  The options for out-of-market NHL games aren't that plentiful.  HULU and Disney+ are probably 70 bucks or more, depending on ads and so on.

My Xfinity contract ends next year.  I was grandfathered to a reasonable deal.  I suspect sticker shock at expiration.  At that point, I might consider dumping the whole shebang.  Meanwhile, I wonder if overall Flyers viewing is getting fragmented with these multiple providers.  It's confusing.  The first thing I look up before posting the game thread is the TV provider.  My graying temples don't dig that.

FYI, I am with T-Mobile and got a new phone (after six years) a few weeks back.  I inquired about the 5G wifi.  The salesperson was honest.  For one or two devices, it is OK.  It may stream reasonably well (they have a deal for Hulu and other subscriptions).  But she was politely telling me to stick with Xfinity, even if their 5G is locked in for 50 bucks for several years.

I'm too lazy to look at the contracts, are Ginning and Attard waiver exempt?

Also, if these two players, Ginning and Attard, are to become NHL players, would it serve them better to continue to play top 4 minutes in the A or be a 6/7 in the NHL?

I mean, recalling the two stiffs for the bottom pair isn't my idea of a "go for it" move.

Also full disclosure, I wouldn't know either of the two call ups if they walked in my front door.

I've heard of Mete, he's uh, not good and Belpedio I don't even feel like he's worth "googling".

Reality will set in for everyone in a few weeks when word gets out that the Flyers are frisky. Other teams will have increased their fitness levels and we'll stop seeing them playing against back-up goalies too.

Both waiver exempt.

At their advanced age 23 and 24 it's now or never sort of in the realm of Allison and Laczynski.

Now would be a great time to see where they are at to me...but no not the case.

It doesn't matters whatever they want to do they do it...

Will flip it in the positive aspect of it, they are just wanting to show case them for some moves in the future. Yeah that's it.

We'll just add them to the list.

Whatever rack of the picks and prospects you can if you can.

Guys i want shopped/gone by the deadline:

Atkinson

Laughton

Hathaway

Poelhing

Seeler

Staal

Belpedio

Mete
