eleven24
This is where the whole "Lower body injury" nonsense is annoying. Might as well just put out a press release saying "he could be severely injured or not". The only ones who suffer from the vagueness are the fans & there is no reason they can't just be up front with the potential severity of the injury. AlaskaFlyerFan
http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-philadelphia-flyers/flyers-rule-shayne-gostisbehere-out-saturday-vs-islanders Rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere will not play Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center against the Islanders with what appears to be a right knee injury. That’s the word from the Flyers as they went onto the ice very late Friday afternoon, returning from Minnesota after Thursday’s 4-3 overtime win without him in practice. A source told CSNPhilly.com that Ghost appeared “fine” on the plane ride home from Minnesota. Gostisbehere took a knee-on-knee hit from Mikko Koivu late in the first period. Fortunately, the hit was to his good knee — right — not the left knee in which he tore his ACL last season as a Phantom. Gostisbehere returned to Thursday's game for two shifts in the second period before leaving. He played 7:31. Given he came back, the assumption is a bruised knee or mild sprain. Among rookie defensemen, Gostisbehere leads all with seven goals and is tied with St. Louis' Colton Parayko for the scoring lead with 16 points. hf101
from NBC sports The 22-year-old was hurt in a knee-on-knee collision with Wild forward Mikko Koivu in the first period of Thursday’s game. Fortunately Koivu collided with his right knee and not his left knee.

Most knees are fine after ACL surgery and rehab these days. Well ill maybe not for a goalie. But I don't think we need to assume his surgery knee is made of glass. mikko gets a knuckle samdwich next chance though.

The only ones who suffer from the vagueness are the fans & there is no reason they can't just be up front with the potential severity of the injury. They don't want other teams to be able to "target" the injury ("we know you have a bum left leg so here's an 'accidental' shot to it"). And they don't want to weaken their negotiating position in terms of potential trades for replacements ("he could be back next week so we're not giving up that to replace him"). That's some of "the purpose" of the vagueness. Whether you concur with that line of thinking is another matter entirely...
eleven24
Oh, I understand why they think being vague is necessary, but it never makes sense. If it's a serious injury, such as an ACL then it eventually gets reported because the player is out and has surgery. They never say "lower body surgery". Opposing players then know, hey this guy has a bad knee and can target it if they wish. But in reality, that rarely if ever happens in hockey. And then there's Ghost's case. Minor injury, and it was his other knee - day to day. Either way, the exact injury is always eventually revealed. Yet for some reason, they hold off on the initial announcement for what? All it does is have fans worry about their teams players. Nothing more.
