What makes matters worse, this type of slump can really cause you to grip your stick a little harder

This is true and there are some signs of it. But you and I both know that it just takes a goal, however lucky or whatever, to reverse that and suddenly everything you touch goes in. It can and does happen.

They know this too, which is why they have to stay calm, trust themselves their teammates and their coaches.

And we my friend must trust the bourbon.

he has been moved. In fact, I believe he started last night on the 3rd line. I think its pretty obvious that AV is moving him around to try get him favorable matchups to get out of this slump. It just isnt working.

He's not that single one problem, and a kid like Frost is not the single one answer. There have been a lot off lineup changes, and player moves. It all is ending the same way. This team can win, they have demonstrated that. There are no more excuses. You cant blame the coach, the goalie or covid. They just need to play better

I agree, one thing they can try is to move Giroux off that left side on the PP, we have had the same setup for years with Giroux as QB off the left side and it is not working and every team has seen that look for ages and obviously have scouted a way to stop our PP. So maybe try him on the right side or dress Frost and let him work the PP, I would also put NAK on the first unit. Either way Giroux is not setting up any creative plays at all. It’s time to try some of the other guys, we are not scoring anyway, so it can’t hurt .

i get all the observations about Giroux's effectiveness on the pp. Its predictable and easy to defend.

My problem is with that second unit. They act like a bunch of mangy cur dogs who just discovered an electric fence, anytime they get close to the blueline.

AHHHH! DON"T SHOCK ME!

Maybe if that unit was a little more cohesive, it would take some pressure off the top unit. This has been an issue for far too many seasons now

I thought he was on the 3rd line noticed how that then became invisible right now Giroux is in a funk and it has spread throughout the team...

Like Pronger's go ahead goal in game 4 vs Bruins to make it 2-1 Flyers gave way to Giroux's goal then Leino's (which the Bruins did tie up and force OT which is irrelevant) which lead to Gagne's OT winner which started the infamous coming back in the playoffs.

Fast forward to 2:17 if you don't want to relive some of the best hockey I have enjoyed in this last decade...

...sadly.

Yeah but man Giroux was just coming alive.

In fact his 21 points in 23 games was only bested by Briere who showed him the way.

Too bad he can't return the favor and pass it along to the young kids.

Danny was the same age Giroux is now.

Infact when you look at Giroux's stats now he looks like the Anti-Briere....

Sure didn't look like MTL was desperate for defense to me.  If they were, why would they want Ghost?  He plays offense, not defense.

Weber has 2 years left, Petry is in his 30s...so Montreal needs a younger pp specialist. We would not be getting Suzuki though, he might be their answer at C. I see a middling prospect with a 2nd rounder lumped in. Lot of warts with Ghosts offense.

That's an interesting thought. My gut says he stays until next year's trade deadline.  He might even be an unprotected player as salary dump and potential reclamation by Kraken.

Was hoping the Kracken would be kind enough to take JVR off our hands at the expansion draft.

5/6 of the top 6 don't care about scoring a goal. they're playing like if they can pretend to give an effort, that's good enough.

It looks like 6 Jeff Carters out there...no "just" enough to not look like total losers.

some idiot on another forum said trade hayes like what? trade your best defensive center because he's suppose to be your superstar, i mean he's the best pk specialist on this team, that's why they signed hm.

I think so scarch Thompson and put him on the 4th with Grant and Pitlick or some other bottom 6 guy like Raffl but Jesus stop living in fear that he may make a damn mistake do you realize (not exactly you) how many mistakes I have had to wstch these so called vets/big guns make now going on over two frigging weeks?

Let the kid play through it who know by the 3rd period it could pay good dividends.

I know one thing rearranging the chairs on the damn titanic ain't f**king working!

Sorry for my rant not aimed at you.

Carry on.

Thompson has been terrible. If Frost is breathing he should equal Thompsons production and energy. Plus better skating and hands...sign me up...nothing to lose here. The lift they would get from Lindberg coming all the way back from the big C cannot be understated. If he is close NOW is the time...before going down 2-0.

Giroux's contract is up in 2 years.  It would be foolish to resign him as he'll likely want 2-3 years, which would bring him to age 37.  Better to trade him within the next 12 months while he still has trade value.  Wait any longer than that and other teams will just wait until he hits the open market.

I believe the older player salary dump price got set with the Leafs trade of Marleau to the Canes. Leafs dumped 5 mill worth of salary and 1 year left on Marleaus deal. Leafs paid a 1st rounder (turned out to be 13th overall) and a 7th rounder...they got a 6th rounder back from Carolina.

This was BEFORE the Rona in June of 19. Now the cap is frozen and won't go up...and G has 2 years left at 8.2 million, a far cry from Marleaus 5 mill and 1 year left. They are both 40-50 pt forwards at this point. I think it would cost a 1st, 2nd and a prospect to dump G right now...in other words, we are stuck with him.

Same price for Vorachek...or very close. .he has more years left and looks cooked.

Wondering just why the **** games #2 and 3...AND games #6 and 7 are both scheduled for backs to backs??? REALLY??? In a hub where only one other series is being played we can't alternate game nights? I'm sure Varley has played WAY more back to backs than Hart...advantage (unfair btw) Islanders. Is there a ****** Ice Capades I don't know about...WTF!!!

Because there’s a huge 3pm EST audience. The NHL is too smart to have games in prime time every night. Too too smart. 3 PM is where it’s at

Greetings:

The outcome of this series may determine many things, not the least of which is the offensive creativity of our team.  The absence of scoring (we won a series and underscored the opponent vs. MTL) and the lousy power play are two sides of the same coin.  I am glad we signed Oscar to an extension.  I hope we get some Suzuki types in coming years. Our offense is boring.  I suspect we can shift this group around via a Wheel of Fortune and it might not change the outcome.  We will win if and only if we have tight forechecking and top 10% goaltending.  We had nine game winning streaks under Hakstol.  To AV's credit, we didn't have losing streaks as long.  He has done a lot with this squad.  But we may be seeing signs that chunks of the group aren't that effective in the offensive zone, leading to odd-man breaks for the opposition.

I think , we should at least get something decent  for Ghost before the expansion draft and if he plays well, his value goes up.He did have surgery on both knees, so hopefully he regains his form, but the more we bench him, the less his value.  We can leave Voracek and JVR unprotected and dump a big salary.
