  1. There is nothing in sports better than the Stanley Cup playoffs. N.O.T.H.I.N.G I watch as much playoff hockey as possible. Like @yave1964, the 10:30 games get tough. But I'm going to make a point to do it this year. The Western Conference should be amazing. Once the Flyers are done, I look at the matchups/series status to prioritize what games to watch, if there are multiple games on at once.
  2. Flyers did retain half of Mez's salary. No idea why it took 2 days to be reported. Really it comes down to cap space IMO--more than actual dollars. Flyers have 4.4 or 4.2 in cap space now IIRC.
  3. That's not "bad" drafting. That is AWFUL drafting! Holy balls.
  4. I don't know what he's "worth" on the open market, but if he's going to get an increase from 550K to $6 million, he better be the second coming of Chris "Freaking" Pronger"--and Pronger in his prime.
  5. I'm more concerned about the issue being CDN/US dollar related. As you pointed out, Jim, the NHL doesn't have a revenue problem.
  6. Granted this is only one mention/thread but imagine the implications if the cap goes down. @capgeek: Among items that may have been missed yesterday, @helenenothelen reported 2014-15 cap could be as low as $68M due to decline in CDN dollar.
  7. No problem, guys. I threw it in the shoutbox in the middle of the trading frenzy, and figured it was overlooked. It's too good to miss, IMHO.
  8. Someone sent this to me yesterday. I posted it in the shoutbox, but figured it was worth a thread. This is a fantastic read... http://mylifeishockey.com/2014/03/04/my-goodbye-letter-to-hockey/
  9. Agree the First AND Pouliot is ridiculous......2 players, a 1st, a 2nd and a top notch prospect. Just don't get it...
  10. This is what Servalli mentioned the Pens were offering, so the Flyers would have to TOP this!! NO ****ING WAY. The report says the Penguins have offered Brandon Sutter, Simon Despres, and their first round pick. In such hot pursuit of Kesler, Penguins general manager Ray Shero has even softened his stance on letting go top defensive prospect Derrick Pouliot, a first round pick in 2012 @flyercanuck--I would argue that Kesler isn't even worth more than Schenn right now! He makes a lot more, and only has 5 more goals this season. He's also had a ton of injuries the last few seasons. Rumors out of the Olympics were that he broke his hand there. Granted he has leadership/intangibles, but to be blunt, the Flyers don't need those. They freaking need D-men!
  11. I may have shared this before, don't remember. My best memory of that run....Game 4..I'm watching the game with a bunch of Bruins fans. We are all watching the game outside on my buddy's deck; after regulation, guy gets up to make a beer run inside. Comes back out, and very quietly sets a broom down beside the TV. When Gagne scored in OT, another Bruin fan broke the broom over the deck railing. I still have both pieces as a memento. When the Flyers won, I bought 4 brooms(one for each win), and left them on his front porch. To this day he has never said a word about receiving them.
  12. I had read that Carolina was willing to trade any of their 3 goalies. Would Ward get most in return?? Are you sure they are trading Ward? His cap hit is $6.3 millon for the next 2 years. Ouch...
  13. Blow labrum in his hip....just watch.
  14. Those numbers are very interesting. However, I also think injuries are a huge part of his down turn. Granted, they shouldn't have signed him to begin with, but he was one of/the best forward going early on. Then he got hurt in the Caps brawl, and even worse, he then hurt his back. The article mentions "back spasms", IIRC, it was a BROKEN BONE in his lower back. He's been down right bad at times, since returning from the injury. What pisses me off, almost as much as the 5 year contract, is that Homer said "he wanted to be big down the middle" or something like that. So, we sign an aging, possibly breaking down center, and 2.5 months into his 1st year, throw him on the wing, where he says he's never played, and isn't comfortable. That my friends, is how you build a team. ***edit for Ebonics style grammar***
  15. Where's the fun in that??? More fun to poke the bear. In all honesty, I agree. I keep hearing St Louis, but I'm not convinced that's even a solid bet right now.
  16. As always, @hockeyjunkie NAILED another prediction. Brian Lawton ‏@brianlawton9 I am hearing that it is not likely that Ryan Miller will be traded by the Deadline and Sabres are turning attention towards re signing him.
  17. To be clear, I'm not blaming the "man", I'm blaming the "MEN".
  18. They don't need a fresh perspective, or a culture change.
  19. A better question might be: "Why is EVERY free agent, pending free agent, pending trade candidate, always rumored with the Flyers?" It's a 2 part answer; Edward M. Snider and Paul Howard Homlgren.
  20. Good point, does it now? ALA, Tavares, etc....
  21. Can someone answer this, cause I posted it in some other thread. IF the NHL/NHLPA decides NO for 2018, WTH happens when a player decides to go? Can they be stopped? With no league games, it works out fine now. No games, no pay. If players miss NHL games for the Olympics then what? No pay? Paybacks to teams, etc... I guess the 1st answer needed is: Can a union player go against the union and play in an international competition? If so, it's a Pandora's box from there. C'mon @radoran..you're a lawyer.
  22. Boomer Esiason, the football dude? I'm assuming this came from his NYC based radio show?
  23. Writer takes a not to subtle shot at Corsi stats... "Some who subscribe to advanced statistics as being invaluable point to Corsi and Fenwick numbers that portray Grossmann in a negative light. Those statistics, created by a website,"
  24. Yeah, because everyone from the Philly area wants to go to Camden!! LOL
