Game 61: Philadelphia Flyers at Washington Capitals; 3/1/24 @ 7 PM, NBCSP, NHL Network

Recommended Posts

I am seeing a virtual dead heat odds-wise, with (-110) on the moneyline:

https://news.sportsinteraction.com/nhl/matchup/flyers-vs-capitals-odds-030124-177319

There isn't much to distinguish between the squads on numbers:

https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/phi-vs-wsh/2024/03/01/2023020954

They're a tad better offensively, but the Cap PP is almost as anemic as ours, which is strange given their personnel.

We're on a three-game win streak and beat them back in December, 4-3.  They are missing Oshie, we're missing TK.  From my vantage--the O and B are on the way up, the Caps and Ovie may be heading south.  Let's hope our youngins play like they did against TB.

I was mildly curious what the odds makers would say about this one. Frankly I hate the NHL keeps shoving the betting lines down our throats - ever since they partnered with Fanduel I guess.

I wonder if Konecny is ready to go yet. Drysdale is “week to week” so we won’t see him for awhile. We know Ristolainen’s out … somebody I’m forgetting … Ellis? I forgot about him 2 years ago…

Anyway I’d love to see Foerster keep his point streak going…and for Farabee to end his 11-game goal-less drought. I think of Farabee as a consistent player but his production has been anything but this year..

Strange scheduling this week…

I hope i have time to sit down and watch some of this. More home grown talent i want to see how they look.

Time to shat or get off the pot for some of them i'm afraid. Now or never.

74 Owen Tippett - 21 Scott Laughton - 71 Tyson Foerster
86 Joel Farabee - 48 Morgan Frost - 10 Bobby Brink

27 Noah Cates - 25 Ryan Poehling - 19 Garnet Hathaway
44 Nicolas Deslauriers - 14 Sean Couturier - 62 Olle Lycksell

8 Cam York - 6 Travis Sanheim
24 Nick Seeler - 26 Sean Walker
5 Egor Zamula - 12 Ronnie Attard

33 Samuel Ersson
32 Felix Sandstrom

Danny needs to know what he has they are only allowed 4 recalls between the end of the regular season till the playoffs.

Unless of emergency.

Drysdale is week to week and then, they are trying rest and rehab and then he will be re-evaluated, at which time the team will announce he is undergoing season ending surgery. This is the flyers, the writing is on the wall.

Good Morning!

I post odds to anchor the thread. Hopefully, that doesn't bother the gang. I don't gamble, and posting the odds isn't intended to encourage it.

I've found it interesting to see the moneyline change during the season. Early on, we were the heavy underdogs. For the last six weeks it's been more favorable. On occasion, we're even a favorite, like tonight, if only by a smidgen. The bookies are a little more respectful.

Government tolerates the gambling. They can say, honestly, that unlike a general tax, gaming revenue is voluntary. You don't gamble, you don't pay. What's interesting to me is that online gaming is cannibalizing the casinos. That will take out the low-end casinos and kiosks. There is only so much gaming money at one time. Betrivers beware. Same for half the casinos in AC.

I appreciate the game threads odds and all. I just hate the gambling coverage pre-game, in-game etc. I hate it for one reason only - it takes time away from talking about the game. There's gambling discussions all over the web the NHL shouldn't feature it in their broadcasts.

Bookies don't set lines based solely on who they think will win the game.

Bookies are here to separate you from your money.

They set lines to even up the money wagered on both sides.

It's why football spreads change during the week.

It was easier to get people to bet on the Flyers as huge underdogs early. Now, your bet returns you less money.

Was just down in DC and BetMGM has an actual physical presence in the Nationals Stadium complex.

I wish I could give more than one upvote. Gambling is a mug's game and every bet is one against the house.

You pretty much need to start off thinking "how much money can I afford to lose" and then realize that you're more than likely going to lose it. If I go into a casino, I've got a number I'm willing to part with and will not go above that - if I even get there. That said, I haven't been in a casino since the beforetimes.

Are there exceptions to every rule? Sure.

Except the one about suckers being born every minute...

TK is back tonight.

That's great  - glad his injury didn't turn out to be too serious.

So if it's Ersson tonight then I guess Sandstrom tomorrow night... lot of Flyers' games in March I think they play 15 in 30 days.

Ersson and his awesome .778 save preventative right now in this game. He might be a good team guy, but if the Flyers plan on making a run in the playoffs, this crappy save percentage stuff won't cut it. Enough is enough. Sam needs to step up his game.

I assume you haven’t seen many of his starts and are just going by his numbers. Believe me he’s been excellent; nobody who’s watching has any complaints about Ersson.

His numbers are in part due to his first couple games back in October where he was made of rust, just bad.

Boy, this is hard to watch. We were dominant and now we're dominated.

yep talk about taking your foot off the gas…suddenly the Flyers are slow to react, can’t get out of their own zone cleanly…and of course Ovechkin picks tonight to wake up. Not a good period from the Flyers and I hate to say it after praising Ersson but was he slow on that wraparound? I’m not sure need to see it again but that was a killer to give up.

they have to go after goalie in the offseason, i mean they have to get an upgrade because we lost hart and we have no clue on how our goalie prospects are going to pan out and they probably arent ready for a couple of years, maybe an ullmark, swayman? i dont know.

I have NHL Network feed and the intermission crew said Torts was screaming at Brink after the 3rd goal. Look for Brink to open and close the bench door the entire 3rd period.

He wore down in the playoffs for the Phantoms last year.
