ruxpin
Good lord. $6.6 for Shattenkirk is simply too much. Buyout Girardi just to pay this for a PP specialist who cannot play defense. Crazy

ruxpin
So, the Smurfs have $22M in cap tied up in their top 4 defensemen with Ryan McDonagh's contract expiring next June. His salary was actually backloaded, so he'll be looking for a raise from the $5.3 he's making this year (rather than simply the $4.7M cap hit). They'll have Nash going UFA and I cannot imagine they extend him, so it's possibly doable. But Miller, Hayes and Grabner will all be looking for significant increases. I don't know. McDonagh has to be looking for at least Shatty money, right? Of the two, he's the only one that can play defense. If the Rags are going to win a Cup, it better be this year. Lundqvist's window is closing and they're going to have problems keeping people next year. Not to mention there are teams passing them in skill. Yeah, I don't like the Shatty thing at all. Soon to be one less team for the Flyers to have to leapfrog, so that part is good. Edited July 1, 2017 by ruxpin
AJgoal
One of their beats posted on twitter that to make the playoffs, the Rags are going to need 15 wins from Pavelic.

They've been Homering draft picks for years...trading them away for vets...and the 1sts they kept were generally very poorly used.

It comes to the draft and they're sitting there doing whatever hockey scouts and officials do when they're not paying attention to anything (signing Shatty) and suddenly they hear Buttman call their name. "Wait, we didn't trade that? WTF? Who let this one fall through????" Who are we going to pick? I haven't actually watched a hockey game in 3 years! Quick, look to see who Calgary is picking and just get it." "But sir, Calgary already picked. They don't pick again until the third round." "Just do it! I don't care! The pick will never see Madison Square Garden unless they have a ticket to see Taylor Swift, anyway! All the slots are blocked by former stars! FIND OUT WHAT CALGARY IS PICKING! HURRY BEFORE WE LOOK STUPID, LIKE THAT GUY FROM LONG ISLAND!" Edited July 2, 2017 by ruxpin
yave1964
More than a bit surprised that he took a short term deal to play for his home town team.

Yeah should have just kept him if hey were going to turn around and do this... ...like i said couldn't happen to a better team. Henrik will need to be traded somewhere else if he wants a Cup before retiring....
hf101
And two years later... The Rangers have apparently informed Shattenkirk that he will be bought out. Shattenkirk has two years remaining on the four-year, $26.6-million pact he inked with the Rangers on July 1, 2017. The deal carries a cap hit of $6.65 million. The 30-year-old is owed $6.6 million in base salary in 2019-20 and $2 million in base salary - with a $2-million bonus - in 2020-21, according to CapFriendly. BUT...Next year ought to be really interesting...

I didn't anticipate the injury or the buyout. Just that he was absurdly overrated and a horrible defensive liability even pre-injury. TropicalFruitGirl26
Is it just me, or is "Shatty" a version of Tomas Kaberle? Remember him? Kaberle. An ok skill set, but for some reason overly hyped by some fans and the media, never lived up to those expectations, all the while GMs feeling THEY could get the most out of him and then he goes off with a whimper into the night. Sure, he won a Stanley Cup when he was picked up as a rental in 2010-11, but I think Boston wins that year regardless of whether Kaberle is on there or not. Maybe Shattenkirk has that to look forward to..... lay low somewhere, and when some contender just wants to pad out their roster for depth purposes, they trade for him at the deadline and he can say he won a Cup. I remember Kaberle but need to think about that one. I wouldn't have put the two of them together and am not sure. I'll get back to you.
