Most NHL teams now would get beat up by a women's soccer team. I think it's time to put the toughness back into hockey again because it's embarrassing to watch players skate around consequence-free. No hitting. No shoving. No physical play at all. It's the equivalent of no-touch football. Those bull dykes are pretty tough

He wouldn't be a serial offender with policing on every team. Tom Wilson is 6'4, weighs 220 and fights. He's at the top of the food chain. No enforcer is going to stop him. A lengthy suspension that hits his bank account would. NHL dropped the ball there.

The only thing that would work in these circumstances would be to make sure Wilson gets injured every time he gets on the ice.

I get the "old days" angle on this when the Tony Twists and Rob Rays and Donald Brashears of the world would never let this happen the stars on their team. That may work for the Matt Cooke-types but not the Tom Wilson-types. Wilson is Tony Twist with skill. Wilson has two 20G/40 PTS seasons under his belt and is on pace for the same this year had the season been a full 82 games. Tony Twist had 10 goals total in 10 seasons. Someone could go after OV - he of 6'3 and 236 who - while not a fighter - is clearly not a "lightweight". That leaves the wallets. Side Note: Was looking career stats for enforcers. Has their ever been a better fantasy hockey season than Bob Probert in 1987-88? 74 GP 26 G 33 A 398 (!!!) PIM

No- and that dude was a legit heavyweight. 100% agree with your thoughts on Wilson also, he's Jaguar, Great White, Silverback...make your own metaphor Apex predator. He had a guy pinned on the ice with his stick around his neck and punched him. Buchnevich wasn't fighting...at all. Then when Panarin jumped in to stop him (never threw a punch, just looked like he was trying to stop him) he gets basically pile-drived to the ice and punched. Yeah it was some dirty play. All I'm saying is that kind of stuff used to happen every game in the NHL at some point. The only difference between now and then is instead of politely trying to move Wilson off your teammate, a 1990's hockey player would have sucker punched (or cross-checked) Wlison in the head from behind and pounded him into oblivion the moment they saw a teammate get punched while on the ground.

It's inevitable that we'll go back to those days, if Parros and co keep dropping the ball.

Well, it was not exactly the expected signal: he just gave the Rangers a $250k-fine for telling the truth... Tomdog
The Rangers screwed up in Wednesday’s game. Instead of a line brawl on the opening face-off, they should have waited for Wilson to hit the ice and then the whole line skate over to him and hack the hell out of him with their sticks. Similar to cutting a tree down.
Tomdog
I just watched the Buchnevich video. He didn’t even cross check mantha. one hand on the stick the other a fist. The NHL player safety is turning into a bad joke.

lynxrattle
That's the obvious answer to the Wilson riddle, that Parros, NYR or Bettman couldn't solve. Come to think of it, I didn't either. Knee-on-knee never crossed my mind. I'd expect NAK getting away with that as well. Despite the Caps saying Wilson is their guy, I don't believe he really is. They see through him and won't really go after NAK for this.

Certainly there shouldn't be any discipline for NAK he was going in for the check Wilson moved and leaned the other way and NAK didn't throw out his knee and at full speed we'll knees bumped. Karma is a bitch.
Tomdog
This whole Wilson mess would go away, and stay away in the future, if the NHLPA would step up and condemn one of their own. It really isn't that hard set up a code of conduct for the way players conduct themselves against each other.
