Jam:

My backyard Florida Panthers are beginning to show signs of growth and consistent winning. That's because Tallon has gradually put together some good draft picks and nurtured them, and he's picked up some good vets and overlooked throwaways from other teams.  We will win when we do the same. Throwing out the coach may be good short-term but we will be back in the same boat unless we have a different model of growing a winner.

Trade all but  Laughton and Jake! fire Chief over his head! This Sucks! Glad I got that off my chest! Laughton back to A doesn't need to be around losers!

They should have NEVER fired Lavy, but the primadonna players didn't like him, so its much easier to fire the coach than hold the damn players responsible.  In a franchise that doesn't currently have its heads up its collective arse, the players getting a free pass would not be tolerated, especially when your coach had in fact won a Cup elsewhere. I say that regretfully as a fan , but I will always be of the team . So now they have Berube, who is an average coach at best. They got into the playoffs because of Mason and smoke and mirrors last season and at the rate they're going,it won't happen this season.  Start by waiving Vinny if you have to and eat the contract, then trade Schenn, Read, MacDonald, etc. for what you can get.

Unfortunately, VLC's No Movement Clause prevents him from being waived.

I think very few on this squad are untouchable and would be willing to take draft picks or pucks for many of them.

I hope all is well with you.  I guess you can't be too depressed over what you see these days.  This was a transition season....grin and bear it...I was a high school senior when we won the Cup 2.  I hope to stay alive for number 3.

Peace,

This was going to be a year in which the team took a step back. The team is so hard pressed against the cap that his hands have been tied as to what he wants to do. The fact that the team is going to tank means that he'll have opportunities to move players near the deadline. Guys like Grossmann and Coburn (maybe even Del Zotto, depending on the package) could fetch something. Even guys like Umberger and Lecavalier could be moved if the price is right (some salary will probably need to be eaten). However, this poor season needed to be done in order to get out of cap hell and get out from underneath bad contracts.

Maybe it's just me, but the doom and gloom isn't all that doomy or gloomy. Fact is, there's still a very good talent base in place (Giroux, Voracek, Brayden Schenn, Couturier, Simmonds, Raffl, Bellemare, Streit, Mason) and there's good talent in Lehigh Valley (Laughton, Leier, Cousins, Hagg, Stolarz, Gostisbehere [unfortunately, his ACL tear sets his time table back]) and in the CHL (Morin, Sanheim, Aube-Kubel) and the NCAA (Friedman, Parks). If the Flyers can get at least a second for Grossman, a good package around Coburn (I'm with a poster on another board who said Coburn and Read for O'Reilly) and some salary cap space for Umberger and Lecavalier, that's a giant start.

I'm with you all the way here. Theres plenty to build on already on this team and its prospects. The D needs help and its still a few years away from coming. As long as Hextalll remains patient I'm all in for the long haul. Heck I'd be more than happy with a top 5-10 pick in this draft.

If that top five picks means Noah Hanifin or Dylan Strome, then I'm all for letting this season play out the way it's playing out.

I think Hanifin will go top 3. But Strome could still be there. Kylington will go top 5.

I agree however like i stated in one of these threads they'll suck just not good enough to land s those talents............they suck enough to finish one or two points outside the 8th spot in the East............it's what is frustrating they can't even suck right.

That's what pissed me off when at the end of the season, 2 seasons ago?, when a bunch of the young kids were called up and they played well the last five games or so and............... right out of a top 10 pick.

i'm ok saw them live and beat AVS. Yes I just want  a effort and to show up. i know you can't do that every game but come on. Especially in the first!!!!! I like you saw two want another. Will always root for them no jumping ship and want to win every game. I think there are very few guys that I wouldn't trade at the right and right return. Happy with young guys but their 2 years away. Other wise have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Hexy should send a fax to all GMs in the league stating that the following players are available:

Read

VLC

Umberger

Couturier

Anyone on D

Read is a bust and he and Couturier have to be able to fetch something. And before I have to hear this "defensive specialist" malarkey, look at it this way, that is a polite way of saying: slow, stone hands, not creative offensively etc. Basically they are saying you are good enough to disrupt play, but not good enough to make the stats sheet. This three-year experiment needs to end.

Send Couturier, Coburn and Read to the Oliers for Perron and their 1st this year.

I think the fan base is comfortable enough to let Hextall clean up Holmgren's mess and collect assets.

It sounds like you believe that a 21-year old player is a finished product and that what we see is what we get with Couturier. Am I reading you right?

Consider that only 2 players from Couturier's draft year have more points - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Gabriel Landeskog. And no one has played more NHL games.

He will in all likelihood never reach the RNH and Ladeskog offensive status, but this kid has a ton of room to grow. And on top of that, he's already developed an impressive defensive side to his game.

@murraycraven

To sweeten the deal perhaps. Both are good players, but not here with the group that the Flyers have.

Besides, Edmonton loves over prices wingers.  :D

I would not want to give up on Cooter.  Still very young and at the very least is an above average defender.   Read I would have no problem parting with... I think what you see is pretty much what you get with Read.   For whatever reason he has looked "meh" all year long.    I really dont think there is going to be much that takes place.  I really think Hextall had a vision and will be patient w/ this group.   With that being said anyone is on that table aside G, Jake, Simmer, Mason, Cooter and Schenn.   I am not willing to give up on the youngins just yet.

Read has put up 20 goals a season (prorated for lockout) while playing sound defensive hockey and was signed as a UFA (didn't cost us a draft pick). He's not having a great start while Berube plays musical chairs with the lines, but how is he a bust?

I know you were responding to someone else, but I will add my view - he's not a bust but I think he's become expendable.

I would move him without hesitation for the right return.

I'd move anybody "for the right return" - what would that return be for Read?

$3.625M for a depth scoring winger who has back to back to back 20 goal seasons (including projecting 11 in 42) and is pretty defensively responsible isn't bad at all. I'm not sure you replace that production at that price.

If they need him to sweeten a pot, I'm all for it. But trading him just to trade him isn't appealing to me.
